We've seen our share of great deals here at Xbox 360 Fanboy, but this one absolutely takes the cake. It seems a Wal-Mart in Metairie, Louisiana has discounted the $199 peripheral by a staggering $139, reducing the price to $60. A shopper has posted photos of both the price in question and a receipt as proof. Before you speed to the nearest location, endangering countless civilians, you should know that Wal-Mart.com still lists the device at $199.82 (a whole 17 cents off MSRP!). Still, if you live in Metairie (or know someone who does) you'd better act fast. There's no telling when someone at the corporate office will get word of this chicanery.

Wal-Mart is notorious for putting Xbox 360 merchandise on clearance. Last year, my local Wal-Mart had the quick chargers clearanced out at $7 a couple of months after they were released, and I recently saw the 512MB memory card on clearance at $20.

$60 is a sweet deal...especially if he's going to get the free HD-DVD movies.

@6:
That particular walmart is one of the regular ones. It's hilarious that this was posted on a hot deal forum about 3-4 days ago, and it's somehow newsworthy. Slow day, i guess...

I call fake...that doesn't look like the price labels Walmart uses when changing prices, not to mention the receipt says "DVD player." My receipt said "X360 HD DVD Player" anyway, what I'm hoping for is deals on HD DVD movies...most are still $25-$30 and I got too used to Blockbuster's 4 for $20 on used dvd's...oh well

I just got back home from the Metairie, LA (I live just a few minutes away) Wal-Mart in question, and the drive truly is marked down to $60. There were none left in stock and the manager of the Electronics department said that it was marked down because it was a "seasonal item". I tried my hardest not to laugh in her face.
I was planning on clearing out their stock and heading for ebay, since I already have the drive. Oh well, I snooze - I lose. I'll get 'em next time.
p.s. I also called the two nearest walmarts in the area (Kenner and Harahan) and the drives were not marked down. They wouldn't match the price of the metairie store, either.

Well, once upon a time, in 2003, I went to the local Sears here, and much to my surprise, the original Duke controller for Xbox was $3.00. The tag said it was 97% off, so I guess they were just getting rid of them for some reason, and I haven't seen any video game things in that store since. But that was one great day, now if only my Wal-Mart would clearance the wireless controllers so I could get one where the right thumbstick isn't "twitchy". Overuse from R6: Vegas and Gears and Oblivion I guess...
