I don't know if he really said "why" no females, just that there wouldn't be any.

The film features are cool.

"We found it was more fun to watch each other play" Yeah, totally, dude... not.

So, I'll probably rent this, but I doubt I'll be wowed.

The "annual money maker" part is what has "ruined" the Tony Hawk franchise and many others.

If this does turn out to be a hit, I hope they keep producing it semi-regularly like NBA Street, not FIFA/Madden.

This sounds promising. I liked the Tony Hawk Project 8 on 360 somewhat, but what it really lacked was a replay system for when I would do a cool looking trick. Hopefully, since this is EA, they can have a dynamic replay system similar to that of Madden.

My favorite part of the Tony Hawk games was early in the games when your stats are real low and your skating is actually realistic. Once you were trying to do triple kickflips to hurricane grinds accross billboards at a hundred miles an hour things seemed silly.

Things like this piss me off. Why no females? Laziness. How f'in hard is it to just add boobs to the create-a-character? As a female gamer, I've always thought that 'Oh girls are under represented in games' was BS, but the latest skating games are telling me that it actually is true. It happened in Tony Hawk Project 8, Tony Hawk American Wasteland.. Just out of nowhere, they take it out from under our noses. I'd understand more if these games were originally created without girls, and had yet to add them, but WHY TAKE OUT FEMALES WHEN YOU'VE HAD THEM FOR AT LEAST THREE GAMES?! It just bothers me so badly, and the fact that it seems nobody else notices really gets on my nerves.

I'm a male and I totally agree with you. I usually prefer to select female avatars when given a choice in most games. I think that option should always be available in create-a-player or select-a-player type games.

Actually, it bothers me a whole hell of a lot too. Situations like these just reinforce the whole "No girls allowed" mentality we have going on gaming. And we can point at the ladies in the professional leagues all we want, but really, all you have to do is sign into Halo 2 with a girlish Gamertag to see what it's really like.

And it's much harder to boobs. Most of it comes down to art resources. Having to create a second set of clothes, make said clothes work with the lady parts. It still sucks any way you slice it.

I'm not saying it is representative of the gaming world, but look at gamefaqs recent poll results:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2780

114886 voters, 94% male.

I still think you should be able to create both males and females, and maybe even cyborgs... :)

You should still be able to make male and female characters, though.

Honestly, not having female characters in Skate doesn't strike me as an odd thing. Think about it. How many previous THPS games have had female characters? All of them. But how many times did you use that female character?

Also, I believe there's only been a couple of the Tony Hawk games that had the female option when creating a character.

Muhsaysthecow - there is an option in Project 8 to have a female character. I'm a girl too, and I do agree with the rest of what you're saying. Most of the time I don't bother to play as a girl because the options are just so shite for any random girl character they throw in there.

"the user will have lots of freedom to create their ideal skater ... as long as their ideal skater is male. Sorry ladies, we're going to hold off on female create-a-character for now."

In other words:

"It's our policy to withhold features whenever possible so we can force as many people as we can to keep re-buying the same game as we trickle out these features from one annual release to the next."

I have to say that not including female skaters is sort of embarassing for Blackbox. It's really not that difficult to make some new character models simply to make everyone happy and welcome. I mean, I understand that they'd probably want to do mo-cap or fresh animations with female skaters, but it's not even necessary if it's a choice between fully-realistic female models or none at all. It should have been a no brainer.

In any case, it excites me that Skate is genuinely going a completely different route from TH. Sure, I love the game, but I'm tired of mixing chemicals with nadas spins and launching myself off of airplanes. I just want to lug my ass around on a board and focus on pulling a sick, realistic line in a park. Skating in a game should look as strenous and difficult as we all know it to be in real life.

I really don't give a damn if it stars female characters or not... really even it was a fat 50 year-old mongol standing on a skateboard! As long as it looks and skates realistic! Not like the past 5 TH gamen! they waren't worth jack!

This game looks amazing. Could everyone just please shut the fuck up about the no female characters. 95% percent of the players are MALE. EA isn't going to waste a month remaking all of the animations to work with female characters. Sorry people, but thats life. Wait till Skate 2.
