New Gears of War achievements reward the dedicated
New Gears of War achievements are coming June 14 at 2:00 a.m. GMT, which for those in the US means tonight at 10:00 p.m. EDT. A newsbrief on the GoW page outlines the eight new achievements for the Annex gametype and the Hidden Fronts multiplayer map pack.
These achievements are not for those looking for a quick way to upgrade their gamerscore, however, and are primarily for those who want to show off that they've logged in hundreds of hours of game time. Achievements are listed after the break.
Also included in the download is a patch that fixes a number of bugs in the game and multiplayer. The Annex gametype is currently available for free. The Hidden Fronts map pack is 800 MS points now but will go free September 3.

and what of the bugs? Are they going to make it so I don't have to listen to 10 year old kids racialy berate the other players?
Christopher7xii @ Jun 13th 2007 3:45PM
Dude, if they fix the horrid lag issues I get on this game and this game only, I'll be happy.

That is not a bug, it's a feature!

300 reference? 1337sp33k? expected.
Bu a Princess Bride reference? Inconceivable!

This game was made too fun. I've logged well over 100 hours of multiplayer and still have a lot of fun with the game. Epic, make your shooters fun, but not super fun. mkay, I need to try more other stuff.
To the person whining about little kids. Every time to play with someone that is decent, tell them so and send a friend request. Pretty soon, you are only playing with people that you think are cool and people that they think are cool. Inconceivable!
Though I do wish that games were somehow grouped by age. Under 18 in one set of games, over 18 in another. Little kids don't want to play with adults and adults sure as godamned hell don't want to play with those little dumbasses.

Just fix the weapon slide for real this time. It literally took less than a day for people to do it again last time.

Ha, I thought the headline read "New Gears of Wars achievements reward the dickheaded."
I'm sure they will.

@2 I posted this earlier today, but thought it might be worthwhile to repost:
Here's a MAJOR hint to fight lag: Instead of playing a quick match, go to custom match and check the bars for each one - 3 bars = good connection/no lag, and 1 bar = crap connection/lagfest. At this point, you can choose a match with a bunch of players already in, and in most cases it is even faster than the "quick match" option.
If you're still laggin' in every game, better look at your ISP. I have (slow) DSL and the strategy I explained above has completely eliminated all lag save for people quitting out in the middle of a match.

"Mind the Gap" made me laugh.

Yeah, this game is great, but I can't stand playing with people I don't know anymore. Luckily I have enough friends with xboxen to field a team of 4. No longer will I have to listen to teammates dropping N bombs and/or begging me to help them get achievements, kids being chastised by their parents in the background, or try to understand spanish so I can tell my teammate to give me backup.

Eh, I pay comcast for the top tier connection. I get awesome rates with my p2p for up and downstream. It's something that only occurs in this game for some reason.
I'll try fucking with the connection preferences though. Majority of the time I play custom matches with my friends and we have an awesome connection for everything else.
Thanks for the suggestions, but trust me, it's something with the game.

Do the games you have already played count towards these achievements? That's the question I want answered.
How cool would it be to turn on the game and get your gamerscore to jump up about 120 points. Woooooo
fawazr @ Jun 13th 2007 7:02PM
The lag in this game is mostly due to a lack of dedicated servers. So although you may be geographically close to whoever is hosting, the slightest hiccup in his connection and everyone gets that "CONNECTION ERROR" window for about 2-3 seconds. And when someone decides to leave the game by powering down his system, everyone gets the error window that seems to last for about 15 seconds. Add to that everything is host side and the lag in Gears of War can be horrendous at times.

This game is not fun for me because I'm #1 I'm not a jerk like most of you and #2 I'm not good at it. Most online play is a waste simply because MS doesn't know how to match people up properly.
Brandon @ Jun 13th 2007 8:12PM
I'd play this game more if it worked. I've only logged a few matches because when I hit the Join Game icon, I get an error saying I lost connection to the host. (N)
And @ #5, Jake
I think that would be a good feature to put in games. The only problem is that I'm 15 and would rather not be with immature people in my age group. But whatever.

When you're living in one of the most remote locations in the technological world, Gears of War is a horrible game. The latency you get is just horrible!
Yet I get no latency while playing Halo 3, Shadowrun or Call of Duty 3.
Oh well.
Gavin Mannion @ Jun 14th 2007 2:59AM
Being in a country without official Xbox Live support the p2p way this game works is a godsend... I have a horrible DSL connection (384kb) and I experience no lag in custom games at all... Ranked games however are virtually unplayable.
Kuuma @ Jun 14th 2007 10:41AM
Those are the most specific Achievements I've ever heard of.
