PS3 Tekken 5 going online via premium update in Japan
The Japanese version of Tekken 5: Dark Ressurection for PlayStation 3 will soon have online multiplayer, but it's going to cost you a bit extra. The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu reports that T5: DR Online will feature free online multiplayer with a ranking system, practice mode and survival mode. The game will cost 2,800 yen (about US $23), or 1,000 yen (US $8) for current owners of the game to upgrade. Since the game initially came out for 2,000 yen, early adopters are paying 200 yen extra for the time they've had with the offline title since its release in late December. No release date has been decided for the upgrade, and no word at all on a release outside of Japan.

You clearly aren't apart of the Warhawk beta...Good news, but didn't Tekken go on sale for like $14.99 or something a month ago?

awesome, I would love to fight people online

And now the Sony fanboys try to justify microtransactions and money-sucking games after laughing at 360 owners that have dealt with them.
Seriously, this is worse than horse armor.

So...
I have to pay to unlock online mode on a game that should've had it from launch?
Good job!

Pretty spendy for a downloadable title.

Oh noes, what about all those fanbois trashing on xbox live for charging $50 a year for online across ALL games? So, if you want multi-player, you pay a premium up front? Sony, you are losing credibility again.

So... Sony reveals it's TRUE online strategy: pretend to provide free online play, but sneekily making up for it by charging a fee for individual games. Who wants to bet this sets a precedent and other developers will soon follow suit? At $8 per game, you'll end up paying more than the price of a year of XBL after "upgrading" after just 7 games.

Well it's been said a couple of times already but..where is the outcry from SDF members on microtransactions? Free online..yes. Playing games online...well that's a different story. Now don't be hypocrites SONY fanboys....unleash your tirade on paying to play. NO takers? Hypocrites.

Concur. This is e-rapery. Sony needs to protect their consumers from such exorbitant nickel and dimeing. C'mon this is a bunch of BS!
At least ramp it up slowly. Kiss me on my neck and nibble my ear. I could use a gently teste fondle as well. Then perhaps I won't mind paying.

Xbox fanboys shouldnt be talking since you have to pay a monthly fee and pay for extra content. Micro transactions have been the plan all along for sony.
Piranacon @ Jun 14th 2007 7:48AM
@ Kevin. not all Xbox users pay for live, your forgetting the silver level service and I don't recall Rare charging when they enabled Co-op over live.
I think the point that most people are trying to get across is this functionality should have been in the game, its not like buying some hourse armour so it looks pretty, its about what should have been there and what should be there for all users.
If this is the sort of Micro transaction Sony planed along then it might be time to get rid of my PS3
Elbone @ Jun 14th 2007 7:55AM
@ .11
WTF are you talking about? There is no MONTHLY fee for extra content. Stop spreading lies!
First off $50 a YEAR is not much to play games online across ALL games. It's a little less than $5 a month, you can't afford that? Pay to upgrade individual games is a complete rip off.
Where are the Sony Defense Force guys? This is a total joke! I'm glad I stopped buying Sony after the PoS1.
You fantards kill me.
