There seem to be some lines getting crossed out there in game news reporting land about the redesign of Sony's PSP. Sony isn't "denying" the PSP remodel at all. They are merely saying they haven't "announced" anything and that the reports fall under "rumors/speculation" territory. Just because Sony has a blog now and journalists don't have to call Sony spokesman Dave Karraker every five seconds -- which we're sure he's thrilled about -- it doesn't mean reading comprehension should be turned off while checking Sony's blog. Just because it's written doesn't mean it isn't exactly the same thing we'd listen to by calling and hearing, "We don't comment on rumor and speculation." Maybe it was because Sony labeled the post "MythBusters," which imparts the idea of a declarative and final statement on the matter. The simple fact of the matter is the actual statement is the same spin we get every time a company isn't ready to "announce" something. The Sony post could also be translated as saying, "We still have hardware on the shelves that we'd love to sell."
The guys over at PSPFanboy have a Sony tech video that just adds a little bit more fuel to the possibility of a PSP redesign. Look, it's great that Sony finally got on the blogging bandwagon and is releasing information that way, but they're obviously still learning. It's hard for a company to play loose like a blog without becoming dodgy or outright lying when an issue like this arises. Is a PSP redesign in the works? Could be yes, could be no. Was that statement in any way a denial of a PSP redesign despite its "MythBuster" headline? That's a definite no.

sooo... why is it a big deal when sony denies a hardware revision.
this is something else for you to think about. what if this guy truly has no clue about the revision? its a top level secret. hes not an engineer. hes not in r&d. he's head of marketing. if the revision is not as far along as the sites seem to make it, why would he know about it yet? he could be very well telling the truth. the answer was stated in such a way that he could still cover his back if he is wrong; the exact same way ALL of the major PR heads at each of the companies respond to most rumors.

If Sony can give me PSP-level graphics and functionaly in a design that's as pocketable as a DS and iPod, then I'll be all over it in a heartbeat.

"...major nelson claimed that xbox360 failure rates were 3-5% or that both companies denied upcoming hardware revisions up until the last minute either."
i have more. lets see, i remember MS denying the size of the power brick that was going to ship with each xbox360, back when the world freaked out when we first saw it. i remember MS saying that they planned to get every game working via BC [the quote is still on the official xbox website FAQ]
i remember the wii was supposed to allow for DVD playback. i remember that the wii was not supposed to go through a games drought [imagine how bad it would have been if they didnt retool their GC releases into wii releases instead]. i remember nintendo stating that they were not going to spend more time catering to "hardcore" players.
the list goes on... my only point is, i cant recall a single publication [online or offline] that ever tried to directly insinuate that either company were liars or a lying company.

Yeah the PSP is too big, if you like to wear "skin-tight" pants. Do you even remember the first DS? Obviously not probably b/c you pants are cutting the blood flow to your brain. Why are you even complaining about the internet keyboard subject. DS' internet is not even usable. As for the slow load times, its not even Sony's fault it's the third-party makers.
The only problem Sony had was the games. It's a portable system and I don't think anyone wants to wait for long intro and options settings. It pretty much took forever to start a game. My DSLite kicks ass at work with the mini games it has.

Great post, man. Though, you forgot one more announcement Nintendo made about the Wii (then Revolution). It was going to support VGA monitor output.
So... Where the frick's my VGA cable already!?
Sony hasn't outright denied the PSP revision. But, neither have they confirmed it.
Which makes sense. If they really are to make a G2 PSP, they wouldn't want to announce it until they were ready to roll it out. Otherwise, G1 PSPs would go unsold as people waited for the new model to be released.
