Although it was announced forever ago, it looks like the classic Track & Field is finally getting closer to release. Site GamersReports has posted two images from the game, noting that a source has pinned the game for release on Xbox Live Arcade in "the next month or two."
Next to Street Fighter II on the SNES, Track & Field was another game which fell into the "blister your fingers" category. It was a button-mashing Mario Party game before button-mashing Mario Party games existed. You would jam the buttons as rapidly as possible and then, at the last second, hit an action button. Every event in Track & Field was a variation on this theme. Ah, good and simple times back in the '80s. We'll see how it holds up soon enough.

Konami's Track and Field for NES. My dad and I would play that for a good stretch of time. He warned me not to overextend myself on the first and second of three jumps. Hate button mashing to the point of needing turbo.

Fond memories of that game.

The need for turbo due to really bad button mashing in this game was still not half as bad as it was in the high jump and freestyle events in Skate or Die!, but it's still pretty damn bad.

I wasted a lot of money on this game in the arcade back in the day. Lucky 360 owners.

It's not tap tap tap, think more of exactly how much abuse can that left joystick take. Turning the controller 180 degrees helps a lot with this game.

God I STILL Love this game........
I play it on MAME when I get a chance but it isn't the same with a keyboard....
They should release a peripheral for this with extra sturdy buttongs like the one we beat the crap out of in the arcade.
To this day I still can't get past like the 3rd or 4th event......

#7 This game didn't use the Power Pad when it was on NES. There have even been other successful titles in the same vein, including a remake for the Nintendo 64 in 2000.

If you want to play this right now, pick up one of the Konami LIVE! plug 'n play controllers. It's got all of Konami's Xbox Live Arcade games on it, along with Yie-Ar Kung Fu, which hasn't yet debuted on the service.

The new Official Xbox Magazine has a review of Track and Field. They gave it a 3.0. I don't remember the reasons why, though...

What's the control scheme gonna be like? The arcade game was simply 3 buttons (If you were lucky, you found a cabinet with a trackball and 1 button). And believe me, they took some abuse...
But that kind of control scheme on a 360 controller will make the game next to impossible.

This is one of those games that is nowhere near as good as you remember it being.

I love this game. I always play it at Hersheypark in PA. They have a bunch of old arcade games and I have first place in a few events.
I also can't wait for Yie-Ar Kung Fu.

Blistering? Seriously?
In my almost 30 years of gaming have I ever gotten a blister from a controller ... FNR3 on the 360. It was in the shape of the side of the analog stick on both thumbs.
Anyone else have some stories of this notorious side affect of gaming?

We use to use a short metal bar (or a pencil/pen), put in on top of one finger and then wail on one side while pressing down on the other!!
Crazy high scores and a lot of records broken!!
