Yeah, pretty much most games i've downloaded!

They just don't have the same coolness about them, it's more a nostalgic feeling, desperately wishing it was as good as you remember.

Legend of Zelda isn't as awesome as I thought it would be. Unless he can shield I can't make it through Zelda games. Super Mario Bros 1 is even better than I remember, especially since I'm better at it now.

Things I've already played tend to be a fun nostalgic trip, but the fun wears off quickly.

Exception to this rule: Kirby's Adventure!

Well so far i have only been pleased.
I used to love sonic as a kid, when i played it on my MD religiously, and I still love it on VC, it has reminded me how annoying the old style of , lose all your lives start again from the begining, was.
All i want now is sensible soccer on the VC

Streets of Rage 2: better than I remembered
Kirby: never played it before VC but it's pretty awesome, just sucks every enemy respawns if you move even 1 inch off screen
SMBros: This game is hard and annoying, why did I get it? Should have gotten anything else instead, like Ristar or something

Nope, everything from NES Mario Bros to SNES Contra to N64 Starfox is just as great (gameplay-wise) as I remember it.

Of course, games seem much shorter than I remember - I guess that's what you get after years of 40+ hour games.

Tecmo Bowl, is mine. Maybe it's because football games have come so far since this was released or maybe it's because the game doesn't include the players names anymore. I just remember this game being the best game ever and it just didn't live up to what I remembered.

Altered Beast. Man how I used to love that game. Now it just takes up space.

BTW, does anyone know how to move channels from screen to screen?

"BTW, does anyone know how to move channels from screen to screen?"

'Pinch' a channel the same way you do Miis, with A+B. Then move the channel to the left or right side of the screen, over the - or + and after a second it will move you to the new screen.

i'm just amazed at how much easier the older games seem now....i remembed spending days trying to get past certain bosses in R-Type and now i'm breezing
through them, likewise for games like Punch Out and Castlevania. weirdness.

Ummmm...Blazing Lazers.
That game used to be so awesome....but after playing shooter games like Raiden Project, R-Type Final, it's just not very good anymore.:(

@15 yeah I have found some games are much harder or much easier than I remember

for instance on emulation... I cannot even get past the 2nd level of afterburner, whereas I am pretty sure I could at least get to 4 or 5 back in the day!

I remember spending tons of quarters at the arcade playing Legend of Kage. When it got offered up on VC, I quickly downloaded it. Within 5 minutes I was ready to scream because the music was pretty obnoxious. I haven't played it since.

However, I must say that I will still fire up Toejam and Earl. It's still one of the best meandering games around.

15. a.j:

I agree with what A.J. said in that games from the past seem easier now than they used to. I remember it took me months to beat Castlevania. The Grim Reaper was a nightmare and I used my NES Advantage's slow motion button on the entire floor he was on. This would sometimes cause the NES to crash! He was a nightmare, but now he was simply difficult and I beat him after only a few tries. The same thing can be said about Dracula.

I have found that I no longer have patience for cheap tactics of old games. Pinpoint platform jumping, infinitely respawning enemies, poorly placed or non-existant continue points and the rest are no longer "fun" and "challenging" - they're annoying and cheap. I quickly grew tired of Ninja Gaiden's infinitely respawing eagles that knock you off platforms that are difficult to reach.

Actually, I'm so scared of this effect I haven't bought anything yet! I'm pretty spoiled by modern conventions like save (preferably unlimited, so I can abuse the system), character development, 20+ hours per title, etc. I used to love games that were just fun for the sake of it, but now I get so little game time in that if I'm not "accomplishing" something, I have a hard time enjoying myself. There have been several VC games that have come out and I said to myself, "I used to like that, but it doesn't *go* anywhere, so why bother?" I wonder if that's what it feels like to slowly stop being a "real" gamer as I get older... scary!
