IGN UK rates Overlord; Verdict: Impressive
6
IGN UK got their hands on the retail build of Overlord, and have given the game its rounds and came back with a nice review, scoring an 8.1 . Those who liked the demo will be happy to hear that the cool experiences had in that initial level continue on through the game, with capabilities of having 50 minions on screen with no slow down. Their only gripes, gameplay wise, was that it appears to require backtracking in order to summon particular minions for their specialties later on in a given level. They also felt the multiplayer felt "tacked-on" to the over all experience. So, if you want an advance look at what's coming your way later this month, click the "Read" link.

I was not a fan of the demo at all.
First of all, the creature guiding you through the tutorial was extremely annoying. OK, maybe he goes away after a little while. But the whole thing was dripping with a cutesy, comedy vibe that I just didn't like, and I'm sure was there to make the 'evil' you do more acceptable to moms and such. The scarecrow is another example of the attempt at humor I found grating.
Also, though the animations of the minions were fluid, a lot of what they did happened so fast, that it just looked like a swarm of blurry bees plowing through the pumpkin field, for instance. I also just didn't like the 'sweeping' control. Also, it felt like it's just a maze you're going through... very little choice in where you could walk, even though you're like seven feet tall and the 'hills' blocking your path are around 2 feet.
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I deleted it after trying it a couple times.

I think the humor in this game is great. I think it sets this game apart and makes it fun. It doesn't take itself too seriously, yet it is good at what it does.

This games humor is reminisant of Armed and Dangerous, for which I wish they would make a sequel. I liked the demo and thought it added a little something different for a change.
