Oh, baby!

So I'm assuming this is running under DX10.

If blizzard sticks to their development style, it'll run on the lowest common denonitor system...
So it may support DX10, but I bet the minimum video card requirements would be... maybe a geforce4 or FX.

I'd be surprised if it was DX10 based, as they've promised a simultaneous release on PC and Mac. I can't see the sense in doing a completely separate graphics engine for each platform, so my money is on OpenGL or something they cooked up themselves.

The new Soul Hunter, looks like a small Archon.
Phase Cannon can now turn into energy and float, VERY useful.
Tempest looks like a smaller version of a Carrier.
Probebly lower health, but higher shield.
Aaand the Twilight Archon... is a new Archon. Probebly just a bigger old Archon with ARMOR!

For those interested, there's a higher quality version on FileFront that was uploaded by the same person. Not sure how good it is (95 MB wmv file, gogo wimpy DSL speed!), but it's bound to be better than YouTube quality.

Will:

An increasing number of developers are going multi-API these days, so it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if they do support DX9, DX10 on Vista, and OpenGL for Mac. Several of Blizzard's other games already support both APIs. Also, there are plans in the work to support DX10-level functionality in an upcoming release of OpenGL (due late 2007), so in the long-term it's a non-issue whether or not the functionality's supported via GL or D3D.

Uh, I sort of like the way they give out Halo 3-info. It makes the fan(boy)s stop dreaming of things that will never happen, and if you're not interested in reading them long forum posts, then don't.

I love how Blizzard gave away 30 minutes of the game in a real demonstration, and not some teaser-shit with the logo being shown with some random dramatic music. Hopefully they'll keep this up - with maybe a few more demos, and so forth.

Go internet marketing!

The Soul Hunters looked overpowered, though probably a strictly raider-unit, like the Terran JetJumpers. I liked the ability to redeploy cannons, for defense, or just to rearrange your base layout to make room.

But the Carrier/Tempest didn't look any different yet, though I liked the new shield effects when they took hits. And all we saw of the Twilight Archon was 2 or 3 of them dying. I still have no idea what they do. The highlight of the Twilight Archon bit was just seeing the new Reaver.

Other new (at least not seen in SC2 yet) things seen in this video:
Terran:
- Marine (with shield)
- Bunker

Protoss:
-Reaver (in last battle)
-High Templar? (floating in last battle near the top of the screen)
-Some kind of stasis field? (over the Terran bunker under the Battlecruisers in the last battle)

That was one of the dumbest comments ever.

If there wasn't much information about Starcraft, then Joystiq would be all over it with sarcastic remarks about how they "must not have much to show" and others of the same ilk. As before.

The more I look at it the gayer it looks.

Graphically speaking, mostly.

I'm with you, Aprime1. I really hate the Fisher-Price look they've adopted since Warcraft II. I'd be infinitely happier with the old sprites from the original StarCraft...

This game is definitely looking exciting, I doubt it will require dx10 given that they've already been working on it for the last 2-3 years. If they were to go dx10, they would have to upgrade every single dev, build and release machines which might be costly(time consuming).

A quick search on Google reveals that this video is most likely a video rip from the August issue of PC Gamer's (the StarCraft II cover issue) pack in DVD.

I find nothing wrong with the graphics stlye. It looks a little more rounded out cartoony like warcraft 3 but I liked that game. Starcraft 2 at least has alot better graphics quality wise the starcraft. I cant wait to play it. After debating on if I should buy a new pc for 7 years now, I decided to get a new one 2 weeks before starcraft 2 comes out, whenever that may be.

I am sure it is not DX10 only, because of Macs. Every Blizzard product basically launches at the same time on Mac/PC (Reason #1 why they are my favorite developer).

I hope they start to release some non-Protoss info. Don't get me wrong, I love the Protoss, but I would hate if the game was one-sided. (I am sure they are just doing the most popular info first)

it looks to me that the soul hunters do more damage the more of them fire on the same target

look how big the beams are on the things 10 guys are shooting at, compared to the wimp rays fired by 1 guy at a target

also wtf protoss are getting too mobile...

I'm afraid this game looks neither visually engaging nor provocative in it's gameplay. Everything looks like it's all about build up and swarm.

I'm afraid that won't grab me. Maybe it's Relic ( Dawn of War/Company of Heroes) who will lead RTS games in new directions. Blizzard appears to just be rehashing old things to appeal to fans it already had and.. korea.

@Becky

Yeah, I wouldn't want to mess with one of the greatest video game franchises ever too much either. All we (the SC fans) ever really wanted was a graphical upgrade. We get that and some new toys to play with. I, for one, can't wait to play a demo of this game.

Was i the only one bored by Dawn of War? SC has a balanced, insanely competitive appeal that 40k could never match. And these graphics are not that bad.... watch that Battlecruiser fire it syamato gun. Sweet ass! I am sad they removed my Carriers- the new ones are pansy ships now ( I am not sure they can even attack air and I know their shields do not respond to air damage). They had to weaken them to balance the game. :(
