Project Sylpheed demo now on Xbox Live Marketplace

Depicting a galaxy filled with armed spaceships that simply cannot get along, last year's Project Sylpheed attempted to address the Xbox 360's lack of Eastern-developed titles, as well as its critical non-abundance of space shooters. Developed by Game Arts and published by Square Enix then, the game is finally nearing Planet America under the Microsoft Game Studios flagship. Be thankful we didn't add a woeful "impulse speed" joke to that line.

If saucer-eyed pilots blasting each other to smithereens amidst the surprisingly colorful backdrop of space sounds like it'll float your cup of tea, be sure to check out the 613MB Project Sylpheed demo now available on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Update: The retail version is expected to arrive on July 10th at a pleasing $40 price.

Man, I'm telling ya...between this, Pac-Man, Track & Field, GOW, FORZA and HALO.....Micro$oft is making it awfully tempting for me to go over to the dark side.

Because the days of 3D World Runner and Ergheiz were just sooooooooo much better.

The problem is not that SE is creating more crap games but that we are finally seeing a largely percentage of their releases.

Also, no console has had a Colony Wars style game like this in a long time. So STFU before I force you to play Huckleberry Finn RPG since you like old school Squaresoft so much.

The superb GameArts made it.
Now, I'm not saying this game is superb. It probably isn't. But do you know what is superb?
Lunar, Lunar 2, Grandia, and Grandia 2... and Gamearts made those.

all I know is sylpheed on Sega CD was the greatest shooter before ikaruga, imo. too bad I dont have an xbox

What's with all the Square hate? Geez...this game is about as un-Square as it gets.

Are you kidding me, I love the demo, it is difficult and the controls can be a little difficult to handle at first, but it is incredibly fun once you get used to it all and work out which weapons are best for which situations.

I'd buy it for full price..

Voice acting does sound pretty rought tho, as per norm with Japanese games.

The funny thing is, even if this game were developed by Square, they've only ever done one other "SHUMP" to my knowledge, and IMO it's one of the best of all time. If you haven't played Ehrgiez (SP?) on PSX, then do yourself a favor and track a copy down.

You guys are completely forgetting a little Square ditty on the PSX called Einhander. That game was pretty groovy.

Maybe some of the anti Square talk is because the company and all there "We see nothing but a blank page for the Xbox 360" talk when referring to Final Fantasy? Good! I don't plan on supporting Square much anymore myself.. "I see nothing but a blank wallet for Square Enix games".. Oh and you can keep that Last Remnant garbage as well..

PS: UltimateQ and FrankTheCrank need to STFU. Frank please do GO TO THE DARK SIDE.. You've always made nothing but PS3 fanboy comments anyway.. Have fun watching Blu-ray movies..

I was pretty hesitant to jump over to the darkside too (Not a big Microsoft fan) but I'm having a blast. Evil is good sometimes...

Einhander FTW!!! I loved that game on PS1. (Still own a copy) Now that would be a nice additions to XBLA with a high-def upgrade.

I would definitely like to see some Colony Wars or Freespace luv on the 360. Can't wait to try Sylpheed out after work :)

Holy shit - this demo is sweet!!! I was expecting another ho-hum shooter, but this is some intense combat!

Dude...I just got back from Wally World(Wal-Mart). I checked out the 360 area. Guess what I found, THE RED RING OF DEATH. Damn! And I was about to cash in my AMEX points for the 360.

I do not want an old 360, 90nm cpu....I want the new one. They've been talking about the damn new CPU for over a year now...where the hell is it?

Micro$oft needs to roll out a newly revised version of the 360. Give me the 65nm CPU and a price cut, I'll buy one in three seconds flat.

I think you ment Einhander, Ehrgiez was the fighting game that had Cloud in it.

I find it ironic that, to me, Sony is the DARK SIDE. They killed Sega and I will hate them forever for that. But to each their own I guess.
