"I think you forgot. Things don't exist until Nintendo "invents" them. =)" - cc123

Conversely, you can also say it's "gimmicky" unless someone else "copies" the same concept from Nintendo. And if it was something that was done before (Nintendo) with marginal success, why did no one else "copy" it? Why didn't people improve on the idea? Why is it that when Nintendo unveiled their big push in this relatively new way, and in a big way at that, many would scoff calling it "gimmicky" but once catching the imagination of the consumers, everyone's calling "hey, we've been working on this too years ago" or "we've got our own Wii-killer for the 360, PS3 and PC." But hey, I guess as long it's Nintendo, they'll always "kiddy" (and now also "for old people" bwahahaha), technologically backwards (how quick people tack on the next insult after years of being ahead or equal in specs), or "gimmicky" (until of course they hit a gold mine and everyone's making their own dig, strip it, copy it, and throw the "has beens" away because they're now irrelevant and open once again to ridicule).
