With pirates being de rigeur in the entertainment industry these days, it only seems right that the
reinvigorated LucasArts would dig up their backyard and consider rescuscitating the venerable (and hysterical)
Monkey Island series for a whole new generation of swashbuckling scallywags. And they are, if you believe the Rumor Reporter who, uh, reports that "the fifth Monkey Island is coming." According to his top secret sources -- "some of the guys who worked on the music compositions for the original PC classics" -- the title is being considered, but don't expect to see any piratey action until 2008 "at the earliest."
Sound
fishy? Yeah, we thought so too, so why not try to rinse that taste out of your mouth with these delicious
Steve Purcell drawings of a suspiciously
familiar dead pirate guy? Purcell is quick to point out that these images (more at World of Monkey Island) are "in no way connected to any existing or canceled piratey project." Aye, we'll see about that in ought-eight.

please attach a beard to guybrush threepwood like part 2.thank you.
Cluckyx @ Jun 14th 2007 10:11AM
Here's to hoping that they put it back on the SCUMM engine instead of LUA. It just didn't work in my eyes.
Jonathan Tran @ Jun 14th 2007 10:13AM
Pleae please please use the Monkey Island 3 engine and not 4, the whole 3d no mouse interface thing was dumb. Plus there are better sight gags when it's more of a cartoon.
Also maybe add a branching story so it has more replay value!
Chris @ Jun 14th 2007 10:18AM
Yesterday was my birthday and if this is true this is the best belated birthday present EVER!!!!!!!
Scaught @ Jun 14th 2007 10:23AM
I agree wholeheartedly with #3. The third Monkey Island game had the best artwork. It was an amazing interactive cartoon.
If this turns out to be just a rumor, I will cry. Cry like the biggest pussy ever.
If they don't do a full fledged sequel, they should at least do a spinoff with Murray.
john @ Jun 14th 2007 10:35AM
Yarrr! I hope it be comeing out for the Wii and DS!
yarr.
CaptNink @ Jun 14th 2007 10:44AM
Please make this happen LucasArts!!!
Namssorg @ Jun 14th 2007 11:12AM
I LOVE these games- but I think I played them in the weirdest way possible. I played 4 on PC, then I played 1 and 2 on my DS with SCUMMVM DS, and I'm finally making my way through 3 right now, back on PC.
Anam @ Jun 14th 2007 10:58AM
I'll have to sharpen my insults in preperation for this.
Sam @ Jun 14th 2007 11:21AM
I don't think Lucasarts makes non-Star Wars games anymore, well . . . actually they farm out all those games to other studios so . . . wait what do they do again?
bearxor @ Jun 14th 2007 11:38AM
I'm not holding out any hope for this. First LucasArts announces then cancels a Full Throttle sequel. Then they do the same to Sam and Max. I don't see then why they would pick this particular franchise over either of the other two.
Think I won't hold my breath until I see a box in stores.
On the other hand, it would be awesome if TellTale got a hold of this and did it like they did Sam and Max.
Rayonic @ Jun 14th 2007 12:04PM
Let me be the first to say that Monkey Island 4 was great. Sure it wasn't quite as awesome as MI3, and monkey fighting is never as good as swordfighting, but there was still plenty to love.
The time travel puzzle in the swamp... the revelation about Herman Toothrot... the spectacle of the final boss battle, which practically redeemed the whole monkey fighting system.
Anyone who wants to see more classic adventure games revived shouldn't be needlessly hatin' on MI4.
diego @ Jun 14th 2007 12:46PM
If they dont make it for Wii, theyll be losing A LOT of cash and exposure.
Evan Adams @ Jun 14th 2007 2:01PM
If they wont let Double Fine do it (tim schafer) or Telltale Games do it (sam n max) then something is better than nothing.
But lets be honnest this is lucasarts. It probably will not happen. meh
kraoro @ Jun 14th 2007 2:21PM
This isn't a Star Wars title: it doesn't stand a chance of being made. Unless we get Monkey Island 5: Escape from The Battle of Hoth.
Quakeulf @ Jun 14th 2007 2:41PM
Have NONE of you retards even played Monkey Island 3?
THE VOODOO LADY SAID SHE HAD SIGNED UP FOR A SPECIAL 5-GAME DEAL!
There WILL be a 5th Monkey Island game.
Anam @ Jun 14th 2007 2:46PM
@Quakeulf
That's kind of like what Kirk said...
kraoro @ Jun 14th 2007 2:59PM
At 16:
Just like there WILL be a Sam & Max sequel released by LucasArts? Just like there WILL be a Full Throttle sequel? Just like there WILL be a Grim Fandango sequel?
Mr Khan @ Jun 14th 2007 3:08PM
My guess is that it would have been inspired by the success of thier other old PC adventure work, Sam and Max
hopefully, like Sam And Max, it is supported on the consoles as downloadable content
hopefully too, though, it won't be exclusive to gametap
DVersion @ Jun 14th 2007 3:15PM
@13 . I completely don't get this whole put PnC adventure games on the wii. like the big poush to put sam and max on it. What's the point? yes i get it that the wii can do the pointing and clicking but so can anything with even arrows keys and and eneter button so having them on sony/microsoft systems would work just as fine. also not to mention there would be no wii functionality at all (besides the previously mentioned pointing) as usually these games are without tilt sensing controls. Besides the whole joy of these games are using your computer that you've had for the past five years, sitting down, thinking these puzzles through. The twitch console gamer is the best demographic for this.
Paulwipe @ Jun 14th 2007 3:16PM
If you think about it, Monkey Island would be a perfect fit for PC, wii, and ds.
I think the biggest factor that will determine if this game gets made or not is how well the new sam and max does. Considering how lucasarts cancelled the last sam and max game because of "current market place realities".
"You fight like a dairy farmer!"
"How appropriate, you fight like a cow!"
I hope this game gets made!
why not the LS2/LS7? @ Jun 14th 2007 4:34PM
I would also like to add that using the GrimE engine (which is written in Lua, not called Lua) engine is a sure way to get me to skip this game.
Use SCUMM, or maybe something newer. GrimE just had awful controls and awful graphics.
Also, if you can't get Tim Schafer or Ron Gilbert (preferably both), you might as well skip the whole thing.
Paulypies @ Jun 14th 2007 4:46PM
Please let this be real. look into ye heart. ye know it t'be true
Michael May @ Jun 14th 2007 5:01PM
Pleeeeeeeeeeease be true! In 3d, 2d or any other d i don't care, just make it good and funny. and make it!!!
donoho @ Jun 14th 2007 11:11PM
More Full Throttle Please ^_^
Joe @ Jun 15th 2007 8:34AM
We'll surely avoid scurvy if we all eat an orange.
t_m @ Jun 15th 2007 11:53AM
@20.. you ever tried to play a mouse driven adventure game with a control stick? It just doesn't work.
How is lucasarts "reinvigorated"??????
they used to produce all time classic, innovative, intelligent, humourous games that were leaders in a number of genres.
Now they just produce star-wars genre clones, are run by bean counters, and i can't even remmber the last great game they played.
the new jedi game looks like its aimed at 12 year old boys.. fracture looks like a one-gimick game (as does the jedi game) and now they are jumping on the PotC bandwagon? greeaattt.. /sarcasm
