Stomping the Castlevania yard with Sylvain White directing

Sylvain White is set to direct the Castlevania movie according to Variety. White is best known for directing the sleeper hit Stomp the Yard, which was a classier version of You Got Served and not even half as delusional as Center Stage. Shooting for the movie will begin this fall in South Africa and Romania and will be released in 2008.

White is obviously in demand as a director and people apparently think he's got chops. He has a couple deals going currently, including the film adaptation of Ronin, originally a graphic novel by Frank Miller (Sin City, 300). The Castlevania movie was scripted by W.S. Anderson (Alien vs. Predator) and follows a "Transylvanian knight" who ends up at a gothic castle seeking refuge from the Turkish army. There they discover the castle is controlled by the "original vampire". White says he grew up playing the game and plans to work with Anderson on a rewrite of the script. Say what you will, this movie may be in better hands now -- the man made Stomp the Yard work.

With Castlevania being one of my all time favorite franchises Im wary of a movie being made about it. Id be more happy with some 2D console releases.

Paul W.S. Anderson automatically equals a death a sentence for any movie.

The problem for me is not who's directing the film, but who's WRITING it. I mean, did anyone see Alien vs. Predator, or for that matter, either of the Resident Evil films? If Mr. Anderson writes this film with the same quality as any of those, then I'm skipping this one.

For good writing, you'll probably be better off with the upcoming animated direct-to-DVD Castlevania film, as it's being written by Warren Ellis.

i agree. warren ellis would write a much better castlevania movie than w.s. anderson IMHO. does anyone know what studio will be producing the film?

According to IMDB, Crystal Sky Pictures and Konami are producing it. I don't know about the direct-to-DVD film, as it's still pretty early in development.

I actually enjoyed the resident evil films no matter how bad they are(I am a hopeless resident evil fanatic). I will probably drag my wife to see RE: Extinction. I have seen every Paul W.S. Anderson film unfortunateley. I realize all video game based films are bad but thats all we got. I may the only person I know who enjoys these films. Also liked Super Mario Bros movie. Just because they are bad doesnt mean you cant enjoy them. I will most likely watch Castlevania as well.
