Team Ninja 'has Wii fans,' would consider developing for console
Team Ninja's Yosuke "Itsygaki" Hayashi, director of Ninja Gaiden Sigma, told Pro-G that the development studio is not averse to developing a title for Wii, pending the title utilized Nintendo's more unique features. "We would make something for the Wii if we came up with something unique that would only work on the Wii," he said.Given Ninja Gaiden's upcoming DS release and its unique control scheme, we can only imagine how Itagaki and co. would go about utilizing the Wii remote's pointer capabilities. Our curiosity turns into discomfort, however, when we think of Team Ninja making a Wii version of DOAX.
Hayashi further went on to describe the console preference demographic of the studio: "There are several groups within Team Ninja. The PS3 group, the Xbox 360 group, and there are Wii fans in Team Ninja." We've gone ahead and made a Venn diagram to help visualize the possible trichotomy.

Why not? I look forward to SNKs upcoming Witch Molester.

How can you trust someone who said he's planning Rachel as the greatest female action character. You have to get through Samus first buster.

I have to wonder, and this is more of my own personal musings, can we consider Samus a female character when, aside from Zero Mission, you have to work damn hard to find out about that part of her? I mean, at this point, Samus has a Crying Game appeal to her. "Is it a robot? YAY! A ROBOT! Robots are badass. And it curls into a ball! And... oh, wait... it's a girl? A GIRL?!?"
Just kidding. But my "Best female in gaming" vote goes for Jade from BG&E. She was smart, strong, independant, and mostly a female lead that didn't need 98% of her tits hanging out or other such "game girl" sluttiness I grew out of during middle school.

...anyways. How bout a 1:1 sword fighting game. I don't care if my arms get tired, that would be the shit.

It's guys like the posters above me that make me embarrassed to admit I'm a Team Ninja fan. You all need to get laid before it's too late.
Jake @ Jun 14th 2007 3:20PM
The best female game character is not Samus. Samus is only female because it is a funny twist at the end of the game. Samus is badass, and is woman, but it wouldn't change anything if she was a robot or man or alien.
Best female character is Lara Croft. She is hot as hell, was in some big hit games, a movie that did well and was played by a hot big booby/lipped woman, and is a household name. My gf knows who Lara Croft is even. I ask her what Samus Aran is and she'll just call me a dork.

Because Team Ninja is totally above making puerile, T&A driven games amirite?

This is what Nintendo is hoping for. Instead of having to throw money at Devs to do exclusive content, just come up with a way for games to only work on their system. A control system as unique as the wands is brilliant in so many ways. Props to Nintendo. No need for the moneyhats.

Isn't that the whole point? There is no need to draw attention to the fact that she's a woman. It shouldn't be surprising. It should be accepted. She's not running around with her boobs flopping everywhere, she's not dressing down in thong bikinis. She just kicks ass and happens to be a woman. People don't kick up a fuss when the latest action hero is male, and they shouldn't when she is female. Her gender shouldn't be what sells the game either. In that regard, Samus is a better female game character than 99% of all female protagonists in gaming.
sheppy @ Jun 14th 2007 5:02PM
Well, samfish, I was just literally waiting for an excuse. When an import shop closed up, I snagged a ton of games for $2 each (yes, I have a library of 30+ wonderswan games without having the console....) and I decided it's time to finally invest. Now I'm just eyeballing that WS version of Beatmania 3rd.

Well said, sheppy, I second that 100%. And despite Jade's lack of sluttiness (or perhaps because of it), she still came across as very attractive. Shit, the S&M crack whore enemies in Prince of Persia: Warrior Within were one of the reasons I abandoned the series. Developers: take note.

I agree. Samus is what female protagonists should be. Even though its enjoyable to watch characters like Blood Rayne (or the new, so-called next-gen Ivy of SCIV), having them be slutty like that does cheapen the integrity of the story
Samus: Female protagonist w/o the fuss
Plus the whole concept of rewarding players by being able to see the protagonist was a stroke of genius

I appreciate both kinds of female game characters:
1) The eye candy. Lots of skin showing, possibly "augmented." Nice to look at. But, not someone you'd like to take home to mama.
2) The strong woman. They don't use the fact that they're women as a gimmick. They aren't over-sexualized, with their breasts exposed just shy of the nipple.
Questworld @ Jun 15th 2007 11:57PM
So they have Xbox360 "groups" and PS3 "groups" and they have Wii "fans"?
geves @ Jun 16th 2007 6:08AM
Seems like a slowly breaking up team ninja or a slowly growing company.
sad to see. It's fairly easy to take an existing game (with existing gameplay programming) and add new content to it. Different to put it on the Wii (I know we're not talking about ninja gaiden here). But I'm 100% sure Itagaki will NOT be the one who's helming the first Wii project. Yosuke will probably helm it. Why risk putting your much hyped name (Itagaki) onto a VERY experimental machine like the Wii?
This title is ALMOST misleading. Itagaki IS Team Ninja. Team Ninja isn't even working on Ninja Gaiden Sigma (bet their logo/movie is still on it though). It's just this guy plus a few others.
They just happen to be ON Team Ninja. This guy is basicly getting screwed on the paychecks.
