I just go down my list of friends every few weeks and look at the last time they have come online. if they didnt give me a notice that they were on vacation or that their 360 broke, i simply delete them unless i actually know who they are.

what this guy did is just a game in itself. :(

Sounds like this guy has waaaay too much time on his hands. I only add people that I talk to and are good gamers(sportsmanship, attitude, humor, friendly). If I don't play online often with that person then every few weeks I go through and delete the names.

Every dashboard update I send a message to everyone on my list to let them know that I have deleted them and if they would still like to be my friend they will need to send me a friend request

LOL - high status celeb? Me? Hang on - Paris Hilton used her one phone call, and she's on the other line.

Seriously though, I know - it's obsessive, and probably unnecessary, but I did get asked by several people about how I manage my friend-list.

We did also get many excellent feature requests from this article, so it was all worth it. Thanks for the linkage 360fanboy!

that is crap

there is no reason chris or anyone should have to do that manually. we pay $60 a year for this service and MS' support of our "Friends" list is like tossing a dog half of a milk bone and expecting a thank you.

MS has all that data - they should share it instead of making us do it.

It seems a bit obsessive, but I can understand it...my list is perpetually full. And rarely does anyone go past the 10 day mark without being online.

Hopefully one day, MS will increase the friends list size...

I try to keep my list at 15. And I only add people I know, in person.

The reason mine is so short, is because I really hate getting interrupted with lil' messages stating "such-n-such" is online. If I'm going to be interrupted, it might as well be by someone that I prefer to play with.

Anymore than 4 days offline and they get nixed, unless I know them personally, or know that I will play with them again.

Hell, there are people on my friendslist that I keep on that I haven't played with in over a year, just because the I like the security of knowing that there are people that stay friendly.

But a tip to everyone: If you are in a clan, SEND MESSAGES TO THE CLAN. Not your friends list. People hate it when they get messages that aren't related to them.

Seriously.

I created a userscript for Greasemonkey users which sorts your Xbox.com friends list by the date they last played.

I just delete the people who havent been on in the longest time. Recently I deletedd the people who I couldent recognize or remember playing with often. Once ive moved off a game, I usualy clean house and delete everyone except 3 or 5 people I know and begin again with people who play the next game. Im planing on not signing on until september, so im hoping 2 months of inactivity will get me removed off many a list from other people.

Hmmm... this sounds like a web application in the making.
Should be able to automatically log who you've played with and when.

I would definitely use that!

All of my friends have a 14 day deadline, if you've been offline for more than 14 days without messaging me before hand or you're not one of my best freinds, bye bye.

I belong to a large online gaming community with roughly 1000 active members. My friends list is always full. And, yes, I do play with pretty much all of those 100 people regularly.

My friends list management strategy is to bitch at Microsoft at every opportunity about the 100-people limit. I figure if I and other people organized in online gaming communities
bitch long enough Microsoft will actually get up sitting on their thumbs and make the friends list usable.

The 3 years of bitching hasn't really done any good yet, but I'm confident that within the next 5 years we should see some progress in this regard.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Microsoft for always listening to their users. It's so awesome when a company listens. It really makes my eyes tear up when I think about it.

Yeah I just delete anybody I haven't played with in a while. Sucks hitting 100...took me a long time, but now I constantly have to edit my friends.
