Developers don't even have to invest time making a game fun either.

I don't see why people care on gloating about the Wii. I'm sure cell phone games sell more "copies" than Gears of War but who cares, it's like apples and orangutans.

The key of the Wii success = appealing to little kids. Plain and simple, kids rule the entertainment market.

Quick business lesson for all you dimwit doomsayers:

IF IT SELLS, THEY WILL MAKE IT!

The thing I would worry about most if I was one of you techno-whores is the fact that your technological envelope pushing makes the budgets of the games go up to a point where being profitable is difficult. It's your own damn fault!

I think that Steinberg's somewhat right. But the thing is once Super Smash Bros. and Mario Galazy come back, those two games may keep lifting the counsole up till its death. Super Smash Bros. Melee was still on the Gamecube's best seller list years after it came out.

To ppl here... defending the wii's creativeness. I dont remember PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox ever needing a motion sense controller to have a fun creative game...=/ controller dont make a difference =D cuz none of the last generation controllers had motion sense, and still came out with great games! u cant say it's creative cuz ur opening a door by twisting the wii mote, or shooting an enemy by point and pulling the trigger, that's obvious! i could've thought of that. the only creative game i've seen for the Wii is paper mario. but in my opinion it could've been done with a regular Gamecube controller. the point is.. a controller wont effect how well or creative the game is made.

@Shagittarius "The Wii games take a motion and like a macro map it to a button press (for the motion sensing games)." ... "If you can't see how pressing a button or making a passing motion with your arm is exactly the same thing then theres nothing I can say to you to try to make you see it differently."

Have you even played the Wii? Motions are NOT just mapped to button presses. In Wii Sports bowling, a subtle twist of your hand gives the ball spin. In Super Swing Golf, you can tweak your swing to hook or slice the ball. And that's the difference: there's only one way to press a button, but there are many ways to swing a Wiimote. And that adds an entirely new element to gameplay: physical skill!

16. Like Sega knows anything about the console market.
==============================================

Actually, it does. It has the advantage of the following:
1) Ending Nintendo's complete monopoly of the home console market. (Sega had a huge chunk of the market which was unthinkable a few years earlier)

2) It saw its lead plummet from excessive add-ons, a rushed-to-market Saturn, and the Dreamcast.

Basically Sega's seen glory and disaster, and you can learn a lot from failure.

Will the Wii's graphics look dated in a couple years? They already do, but Nintendo gambled big on HD aspect of the machine (though I still think they should have made it significantly more powerful)

Will Wii hype soon wear off? I think so. I think its popularity will fall from hype to simply being popular.

Will the motion controls become derivative in time? It's possible especially if we get games where waggle maps to a digital button press, but can't the same be said for the 360 and PS3? Those controllers are little more than the SNES controller with two analog sticks. Even if motion control was eliminated I prefer the two piece nunchuck-wiimote control to a traditional controller.

I'm willing to forgive all of these damn minigame collections and crude ports. Third parties were ignoring the Wii and when it became the hot item companies started rushing out cheap games with waggle. Nintendo has some big guns coming out this year and by 2008 third parties should start contributing with quality titles.

I completely agree with comments #19 by Craigo and #24 by Adv2k1. The techies are in control of the industry instead of the artists. That's a horrible thing. I don't want FPS 1002 to look shinier than FPS 1001. I want it to feel better. As PS3 and 360 games really start looking more and more amazing over the next few years, making the Wii's graphics dated, the Wii games will FEEL more and more amazing, making the 360 and PS3 FEEL DATED. It's easier to play games that look dated (Doom 2) than it is to play games that feel dated (Doom 3).

I must Agree with Sega in this Light the Wii will eventually wear off as a tedium. Most gamers prefer a relaxed environment to play their games in my experience. I have worked in the gaming industry for 4 years as a designer doing graphical design work on the texture and landscape front this includes mainly textures but also some 3d modeling.....

As far as whole is right or wrong here lets pick apart everything. The Wii caters to casual gamers and more childish/family oriented games. At its low price this is perfect for what its trying to accomplish however..... Thats bringing in a new crowd to the console market and is somewhat a dangerous area to tread for a company of nintendo's stature.

There is a tedium there to those of us that have been playing games for awhile now. It may be fun for us at first but after awhile it just gets mundane and feels more like we're having to do some sort of silly exercise (jazzercising anyone?) Nintendo tried to do something very similar with the gamecube tailoring mainly to children (I said mainly get off it) What some of you dont realize is that as a game developer you do have to somewhat go with the companies direction you cant go off on your own tangent with it.

For those that are not familiar with a casual gamer they are a breed of gamer that has come off of the internet mini-game era not someone who casually plays video games now and then. Games like Pooch Blocks, Switcheroo, GoStop and alot of those games are considered to be a casual game. These are more popular among old people, children and women. More women and teen girl have been getting into playing mmorpgs and more social based online games and games in geeneral..... However the game market is still on average 16-30 some odd year old males.

Nintendo is trying a less traditional approach and Sega in that aspect can speak from experience.... Xbox 360 if they are focusing on the same aspects as the original aspect is doomed in the aspect that not everyone enjoys FPS or sports games. Ps2 won last gen because it was well rounded they released good title with decent graphics. Yes there are some bad games but there were very few good games on GC on Xbox last gen.

Ps3 if keeping up well rounded good games and depth with graphics will win. Its down to price in the current state and we wont see the leader for at least another year or 2. I wont say who's going to win at the moment its anyone's game and it does vary on the title that comes out.

We wont see motion control as a mainstay on any console any time soon aside from the Wii. Its a good add on idea its a bad idea to entirely base a console off of. Will there be something for everyone on all the consoles? Sure enough but it comes down to being well rounded and last gen thats were Xbox and Nintendo failed.

Just because Nintendo leads in the HandHeld Market (I agree DS is a little blah dual screen is cool but i dont see a use for the stylus most of the time. ) Doesnt really mean anything. The handheld market is more geared towards children and being portable and thats what PSP kind of failed at they tried to develop a handheld for a more serious gamers but we carry around laptops and play pc games out. We arnt sitting in school at lunch or recess playing pokemon and thats the major selling point of DS. Most of us that dont own a PSP dont own it cuz we simply dont play handheld games...

Again its down to personal choice. I'll be getting a PS3 and maybe just maybe a 360 (ill wait till thats a little further along and look at its title line up before deciding that one) I might buy a wii as a present for my cousins kid or might buy one for when kids visit my house but would i myself play it? Probably not.

Well if you wont read it because its to long thats your perogative. Essentially it comes down to personal choice. The WiiMote isnt for everyone and it really isnt that innovative. Gaming is to be a relaxing fun experience and the Wii in some aspects doesnt offer that.

I've got a Wii and a 360 and I definably play the 360 more. Why? Well, look at the online content. If the Wii had online games right now then I would be all over it. But I usually only boot it up every few days or so now, the 360 I play every day.

Still, the first 6 months are ALWAYS tough for a console in some way, or some how. In this case, it's the lack of 'hardcore' games for the Wii. But actually, they're quite a number of them out: Namely, Twilight Princess, God Father, SSX, Scarface, Red Steel (even if it wasn't very good), Super Paper Mario (yes kids, that's hardcore too), and Resident Evil 4 on the Wii. It's just that the Wii has more party games as well. Overall I say: just give the console some time; you'll see a lot more 'hardcore' games coming out at the end of this year--just wait and see.

I find it funny that a company.. that can't even make an extremely good sonic game since 1994 is criticizing nintendo. If it was just a hype.. sure, but I think there's more to it than just popularity. If anything, the wii just need more games. For me.. I would love another mario game, or a gundam game.. but at least my DS will keep me busy. And 5 dollar PSP games.

So here is to the next 100 posts....

The wii is a week attempt at gesture based gaming. It makes you think you are a good bowler and golfer when you really aren't. Nintendo has stolen $250 of your money to make you think that you have accomplished something when you haven't. The wiimote can't(or won't) disseminate subtle changes in your throwing motion to make it go gutter or into the rough like in real life. The wii is a joke machine meant to make you feel good by providing you with lies.

"On the other hand, fun games CAN and ARE made for powerful systems, even those that would not be the same on the Wii (Dead Rising, Oblivion come to mind). That's where the Big N fanboys get it wrong, they think only the Wii can have fun games, but that is obviously not true." - Raikage

No I think that's just a general response to people who think the Wii can't have nice looking graphics and overexaggerate the importance of HD and such eventhough we get a lot of crappy games on the PS3 and 360 as well. HD didn't save them either way. And if the reason Wii games generally don't look all that great (like RE4) it is probably because of the PS2. If people are worried about Wii's position as the lowest common denominator, they should look at the PS2. Two generations of Nintendo consoles and Nintendo fans still have to put up with PS2 hand me downs. I don't think the PS3 and 360 need to worry about getting mere PS2 ports however since they'll undoubtedly get enhancements in the visuals, something developers for the Wii will probably sit their hands on. Sad thing really.

Maybe in the same way Shrek somehow appeals to those older than 13 years old. Like I said kids basically make the entertainment choices in America. Top grossing movies are all titles directed towards children.

"the only time you see wii sports on charts is the charts from japan, where the game does not come with the console."

That's not entirely true. For some reason, VGChartz.com lists Wii Sports on the American Software Sales Charts every week, which corresponds to the number of Wii consoles sold that week.

It would appear that increases the overall Wii software sales that they calculate, even though it's included with the console for "free"

If you look at the weekly American sales charts, Wii titles, outside of Nintendo Wii titles, aren't selling that well. There's a notible exception here and there (Raving Rabbids for example), but overall, sales of Wii titles are pretty low.

So if the Wii has sold just 2 million (estimated) consoles less than the 360, why aren't more Wii owners buying software?

I think Sega realizes that third party titles on the Wii aren't selling as well as one would expect.

I have somewhat glanced over the 160+ comments to this article so far, and instead of attacking the comments of others, I've decided to say "screw it", and post my comments as if I just wanted to reply to the article, and state my own opinions, and how I personally feel towards the Wii.

I will preface my comments with the following info:

I have been a lifelong Nintendo owner. I have owned every Nintendo console and portable with the exception of the Virtual Boy.

I am 26, and what people would consider the happy medium in between "casual" and "hardcore" gamer, meaning that I like to play video games, yet I have a life outside of sitting in front of the TV all day.

I bought my first non-Nintendo console in March of this year, (an Xbox 360), specifically because of the Wii, and my weariness of Nintendo's actions in the last 6-7 years.

With those things being said, here is my take on the Wii, and it's "longterm future":

Personally, I thought the Gamecube sucked. It was nice to see Nintendo finally back away from it's long time cartridge format. But the lack of third party support, no online gaming, lack of a real Zelda game during it's peak (Wii stole TP's thunder on the Cube, and Wind Waker sucked balls, the loss of Rare to Microsoft, alienation of developers with wonky and gimmick add-ons, and constant delays of 1st party titles; is just some of the reasons I despised the Gamecube.

I thought it was just a slow period or a "phase" at first. But after 3 years of jack shit on store shelves, and Nintendo being pushed in to the corner (if it was lucky enough to even stay in the damn store)kind of reaffirmed what I had dreaded since the early days of the Cube: This sucks!

Then came along the Wii. I bought one in November, with the hopes of it being Nintendo's way of saying "Sorry, we fucked up." I played it for a couple of months, and now only use it to browse the internet from my couch. If I wanted a console to do just that, I would have saved 200 bucks, and bought a $50 Web-TV.

For me, the Wii seems to be an echo of that same dreaded feeling I got with the Gamecube. I have yet to see an online game, and foresee the "friend codes" system being a pain in the ass to even be worth it. I see the Wii-mote further alienating developers, and the lessor graphical power of the Wii discouraging ports of games popular on other systems.

I have an Xbox 360. (I did mention that earlier...)
I have had something to do almost every day since I purchased it, and enjoy playing it. I don't have to deal with bullshit excuses, and I don't have to enter a fucking friend code to play a game online. I have a marketplace where I can buy revamps of retro games, and new original games as well. And the gamer achievements system kicks ass.

I still have the Wii, and will probably hang on to it for the Zelda games, but I don't see a lot of other titles being added to my Wii's game library any time soon.

If the systems were entities I would kind of see them like this:

Nintendo: All is fine. Nintendo is never wrong. No online games? Here, have a "Everybody Votes" channel. I wanna be Peter Pan and stay young forever.

Xbox 360: We make everything simple. Your 360 ate the game disc? Oops... Bill Gates has deep pockets, so we can afford to sell at a loss.

PS3: I'm a leet little shithead. I will pwn you noobs! $600 for a console running on Linux? Fuck you, pay me!

Maybe I'll just go back to playing games on the PC...

It seems that Sega is telling what everybody in Nintendo knows... the Wii wee will not last long.

Even Satoru Iwata knows the Wiimote alone won't sustain Nintendo forever (Satoru Iwata, CEO of Nintendo)

I applaued Sega for being so bold and the co. should be given credit.

Well i think that Nintendo actually has more potential to come out top this generation than it was in the last 2 console wars. It still in the end decided by libraries of games though (Gamecube, dev don't give too much hoot about it, N64... well...)

Some peeps complained that there's no games. Understandable, i myself only bought Paper Mario, TP, Trauma Center and prob Godfather pretty soon (cuz it was just plain whicked to throw peeps off the window and whack them with a bat WITH motion :) ahh.. the gift that keeps giving ). But it's just like PS3... it's only a few months out of the console life and most games that are released on the consoles are ports with tacked on controls instead of a game that is built based on the wii-mote. Godfather and Scarface i heard are exception to this port-crappiness, but i can't speak from personal experience at least not yet.

And really for 360 fans... not to bash you guys, but aren't 360 came out 1 year before Wii and PS3? It's to be expected of them to have more of a library and more in their game-pumping-mode now compared to the two.

What i'm trying to say.. just wait... Mario and Samus are coming. After that the 3rd party devs might used the control schemes for templates for their games like how they used Mario 64 for templates for ... heck most 3d games out there.

I was really desperate for one a few months back.. now i'm a little worried by the lack of variation in the offerings.

But that is the fault of the publishers jumping on the minigame bandwagon. To say that devs won't be able to get new ideas from the controls after only a year is daft.. people are still coming up with new controls for mouse, keyboard and dual-analogues after all this time.

And even though all the cowardly publishers have jumped on the mini-game bandwagon, FPS, RTS and Adventure games have hardly been explored as a genre as of yet..

It seems to be the theme on video game websites...predict when Nintendo will fall. It sounds to me like sour grapes because absolutely NO ONE picked the WII to dominate sales charts the way it's doing right now, let's be honest. They are beating Sony 4 to 1 or 5 to 1, and trail xbox 360 by less than 2 to 1...even with a year's head start by Micro$$.

Listen folks, and Sega marketing guy, the people, young and old, have spoken, and they want a fun gameplay experience. Wii provides that, so people flock to buy it like it was Elmo. Good business strategy, ingenuity and exectution on the N's part. Dissenters, get over it.

The Wii has the best chance of coming out on top due simply to a trend in gaming that hasn't been shed. That trend is that the most powerful console never wins.

1. The Atari line beat out Intellivision and Colecovision.

2. NES beat out the Sega Master System.

3. The Game Boy beat out the Sega Game Gear and other powerful COLORED handhelds at the time.

4. The SNES was more powerful than either the Genesis or the TurboGrafx-16, but the Neo Geo was also around, and that was more powerful than the lot of them, yet it still lost.

5. The PlayStation beat out the N64 and Sega Saturn.

6. The Game Boy Advance beat out N-Gage, Zodiac, and other competitors.

7. The PlayStation 2 beat out the GameCube and Xbox.

8. The Nintendo is currently beating out the PSP.

Certainly, there are a lot more factors at play here than simply raw power, but even more common names like Sony and Nintendo haven't bucked this trend. Now, this trend simply states that PS3 will most likely not come out on top, but not necessarily that the Wii will, but with just a two-man competition (Wii vs. 360), the game becomes simpler. However, with the rare exception, the LEAST powerful machine in any given generation is the one to sell the most units and rise to the top.

I really don't see any reason why this trend can't continue.

Wow you guys are amazing.....
casual gamers and hardcore gamers should look at the big picture.... playing games and HAVING fun with it!!
so what if its mini games!! who said wii sports was a RPG!! it was free but more important FUN!!
Don’t like it??? then DONT F#%$ play it!!... play what suites you ... we ( hardcore) stayed outside and got the system and play it and beat zelda ( we all did ) now we are waiting for the next hot game.... in the meantime we play with other games ( trauma excite, wario, paper mario .... etc ... they may not be THE BEST 5 GAMES OF ALL TIMES but they do the job...what job that is you say?? HAVE FUN!!....
WHY ELSE PLAY GAMES????
PRETTY GRAPHICS??? WTF... thats not fun that just adds to the fun... we all played metroid for nes... was it fun HELL YEA!!... 5-10 years later( don’t remember ... we get the same game for gba ... was it better because of graphics??? no .. .was it fun YEA.. would you buy it because of graphics?? NO!! why would you....buy a game cause of graphics that makes you lame gamer.... if that’s the case then ps3 would be dominating non-stop!! right? well then why is it not you say??? GAMEPLAY!!! ...

Is the wii nunchucks a gimmick? too early to tell...some games makes it for a better experience and that’s what counts .. we should all know that nintendo always tries something different...sometimes it dies **cough-virtual boy-cough/power glove** most of the time is great aka everything else aka ds showed that...
Don’t want to play those??? then go with something that you would like till the next big fun games comes out... I mean you trying to tell me that the gears of war graphics make the game 1000 times better?? So it would’ve failed if it was a less graphical game if it was on WII??? Come on give me a break
not every system is perfect ... less graphics means less money there is a REASON why the WII is only $250 not $400 or $600.....
on that note…we all have different taste.. Gimmick or not Nintendo knows what we want (gamers and casual a-like and is game play not pretty graphics……

Mega honestly its not because the other systems were more powerful that they lost it has nothing to do with that. GameCube wasnt more powerful then PS2 Xbox was. Xbox had a crappy game line up unless you liked sports and FPS games hence it lost. Same with gamecube it lost because most of its games tailored to kids and not to the mainstream console players who are male 16-30 some odd years old.

The more well rounded system in terms of games is what has always prevaled. And that is the trend that is going on not that the most powerful system always loses. If the most powerful systme had the best games it'd win hands down. There are reasons for everything and thats what it comes down to is games.

After awhile the Wii will become a chore to play rather then a relaxing experience and thats what gaming is about on top of having fun. If i wanted to swing around something like a golf club or a tennis racket i'd go play those sports in real life. Yeah it adds something to the games to have it as an option. The issue is again while its cool now basing the system on it was a dumb idea for nintendo.

The smarter move would of been releasing it as an option for people to use with the games with the release not as the mainstay for the games. This way they'd tailor to the people that want a more relaxing enviroment with the newer Nintendo games and the developers would need to develop around the 2 rather then the one which takes more time sometimes but i'd prefer push button and so do most serious gamers.

For us its about relaxing and enjoying the game not running around like a nut with a stick in our hands or using some thing. It'd be diff if the wii mote wasnt the mainstay for the system. Ps2 was middle of the range last gen and they had the better choice of games if you wanted to do everything.

Thats all gaming comes down to what can you get the most titles that the most people are going to play them on. As someone else has pointed out actual game sales on the Wii vs hardware sales is rather low. I think this shows a trend that people bought the system cuz it was cheap and are disatisfied with it now that may change who's to say but PS3 has the best shot at winning this generation just as Ps1 and PS2 won before it simply because its a more well rounded system title wise.

@67 sheppy
….. For me, to turn on my Wii, I have to find a game that goes beyond the proof of concept phase…..
Hmm… so the ONLY reason to play wii is to WOW you???? …guess what!!
IS THE SAME WITH EVERY SYSTEM…. We all know the xbox SURVIVED cause of halo…. And I know plenty of people that the only reason they had the xbox1 was cause of halo…. And then *GASP* halo 2 came out!!! Wowowowowow….. 2 games out of 8000 that they made …..
Every system has its share of bad games (must of the time more bad than good) that’s one of the main reasons why we all have multiple systems.

@76 edgeofblade
…. You can survive with both, but the lack of one is hard to make up for.
Hmmm
So…. Graphics is better than game play
Wow incredible!!!
So pacman… (horrible graphics great game play) is worse than Genji: Days of the Blade!( horrible game play )……….um
No sorry …. Game play rules over graphics any day.. except for pron…. Lol…

@78 Kylearan
…I bought a Wii back in January, played Zelda and it sat collecting dust for 5 months.
no shit…. Get another game !! …. So no other game for wii appeals you??? You obviously haven’t tried any other game? … maybe they are not WOW games ( 10 rating ) but there’s plenty of fun games on wii other than Zelda.
79. JodyAnthony
…… lol @ people getting upset over video games
Yea … im bored at work lol

@132 Jodyanthony
…pressing a button to do an action and doing a motion similar to the action to do the action are about as similar as watching a play and actually being in the play
NO… it is your opinion and I respect that …. But playing basketball and winning the championship-VS- playing a basketball game and winning the championship is COMPLETELY different.
@165MattB
…The wii is a joke machine meant to make you feel good by providing you with lies. Lol… ok… so the 360’s rumble on GoW made you a hero? HA!
It all comes down to 3rd party support and online gaming ( mayor reasons why the g-cubed died even though it did had many hot games but 1st party games cant hold it forever)

@Naota: "What I can see happening is that more people will be introduced to gaming and then they may become more towards the hard-core side than casual. What gaming needs is a good amount of exposure because that's what pushes it forward."

I also tend to think that way.

What gaming industry need is a mass market.

Hard-core gamers are pussies whining on forums about anything and everything. They are hardly any market. If market, then very very fragmented one. Not a market where you can make a stable business. No stable business means no big money for A+ games.

Wii/DS on other side had showed that you can expand gaming market and drive profits. You can appeal to wider audience - and reap the fruits.

To me, when Wii was release, classic controller (unappealing before) became antique. Consoles using it - Xbox*/PS* - outdated and unusable. Time have passed, and I see that few games really are using WiiMote. So it would take time for gaming industry to adjust itself to WiiMote.

But at the same time, the divide had showed to me, that Wii and Xbox/PS do not really compete. What is of course good thing for gaming in general.

If Nintendo would manage to establish new standard of casual gaming - it would only benefit gaming companies for they would be able to cash in in huge casual gaming market to go on developing new and more sophisticated games for hardcore market. Because Wii doesn't change the fact that most games are developed by hardcore gamers. But as hardcore gamers they are - they also have to earn some money. And hardcore market only is hardly place where you can earn anything. Except for some whining.

Again people are tossing around the world "casual gamer" like it means playing games now and then. The casual gaming market is something that has existed on the internet for years. Pooch Blocks, Yahoo games etc those are what the market refers to as "casual games". There is an issue saturating the market with these type of mini games for those familiar with the fact that games cost money to develop. If only a few people buy said game (as is the case with the wii at the moment) the game companies arnt making the money back hence other games dont get developed.

A things to note here is the only thing that has really made a profit with the Wii is the Wii itself for nintendo. I think some people kind of dont grasp the concept of immersion. Graphics get better as the tech gets better so the player feels like they are more in a real enviroment and are more a part of the action.

I'll state this again at its core the Wii is a decent system however the WiiMote was a stupid thing to base the entire system off of. For those also unfamiliar with what actually killed off sega (love those that try to push Saturn or Dreamcast... both were fine and the like and alot of people liked em....) The system that did kill off Sega was Sega CD it ruined their reputation. Cd's where out at the time as a new tech for it and..... well they tried to be innovative using new technology in the system.

At the time the system came out it was about 500 dollars which when it came out in the market place it was woefully overpriced for the Tech inside it to most people. Graphics werent overtly comparable. That spelled the end for sega then. They invested alot of money and just couldnt keep up when the other systems failed because of a ruined reputation....

So Sega in a sense does know what its talking about. Innovation straying away from what people are used to can be a bad thing in the gaming industry. Saturating the market with games geared towards kids etc wont pay off in the long run either. For now its working but when the games end up like they did with the gamecube with a diff controller things are going to go the same route. Lets also keep in mind something with the gamecube if your familiar nintendo didnt try to market it in Japan all that well because the people didnt like it and they thought it not worth it.

Going by average age of console gamers the last few gens even with the kiddy games that were released it doesnt make sense to try and steer the market towards the weaker link in the thing. HandHelds are more popular among kids where as consoles are more popular among teens and adults hence why alot didnt like the Cube.

Hes both wrong, and right though. He is right about the fact that the games look dated, even now they do. "Who cares!" you say? Well, the vast majority of the gaming community cares, thats who. The majority of gamers want great graphics, and it usually is what attracts a gamer to a new game in the first place. They want the newest and best game with the shiniest and smoothest graphics, and the Wii really doesnt have that capability when compared to the 360 and the Ps3. Its basically a last gen console with a motion remote...
Hes wrong about the creativity part. There are still a number of creative games that can be developed for the Wii. However there is always a point where those ideas will become repetitive.

Untill Brawl comes out, there really is no reason to buy a Wii. It really is a gimmick, and dont say it isnt because it is. The gimmick is what attracted people to the system in the first place. The gimmick is the wiimote. After a while, it really is no fun to play. It just gets repetitive and annoying. All I can say is THANK GOD that you dont have to use the Wiimote for Brawl, because personally I think the Wiimote was a terrible idea. But hey, without the Wiimote what would have sold the Wii in the first place? Nothing. The Wii only had the potential to attract a certain number of buyers with its gimmick/wiimote, and now that number is reaching the point where ppl are realizing that it isnt that much fun to play.

Dont say that graphics arent everything, because they certainly are as big a part of a game as the gameplay is. You are wrong if you think otherwise, very very wrong. With that said, the Wii doesnt have the capability to survive this generation.

I have a Wii and a 360, and to tell you the truth I have no earthly desire to purchase a Ps3. I cant tell you the last time I even plugged my Wii into the wall, thats how boring the games are right now. I have Twilight Princess for GameCube becuase I didnt want to deal with the Wiimote bullshit. Gamecube is a far better system than the Wii, hands down, anyway.

Sorry, its just the way it is.

Wait wait wait. All of you are saying the same thing.
"The controls will get old in a year and not be new"

How long have we been using gamepads like the PS3 and Xbox360? Since the NES for Christ's sake! The only intuitive one was before that with joysticks or a dial with a number pad. You guys are so funny with your controller remarks.

I own a Wii and owned (as in, not anymore) a Xbox360. Boy was that a mistake. Besides the occasional good game, what else did it have to offer? Xbox Live is not what it used to be, face it. With the modchips out there and the capabilities to create and inject aimbots into the ISOs used with the mod chip, it's no fun. A console should stick to what it's good at and make games that don't go online. Leave that to the PC.

When I think Wii, I think games that are fun, and offer something to do with friends and yourself. Don't tell me the Wii is for party games, because if you have tried Zelda, Godfather, Resident Evil 4, Pokémon Battle Revolution (Jap), Super Paper Mario or the other tons of single player games then you know what I am talking about.

(disclaimer: I don't own a PS3, 360, or Wii)

On a brief note, I've seen many people try to bring up the DS when people have quesitoned whether the Wii is merely a short-term gimick. While not entirely false, I don't think the fact that the DS has done spectactulary against a more powerful system is any real indictacotr of the Wii's chances of success. While the DS does have duel screens, which were thought to be gimicky by some, it is no where close to as deviant a system as the Wii for the following reasons:

The DS, while weaker than the PSP, is still clearly a significant hardware upgrade over the GBA.

Unlike the Wii, the DS was launched as a successor to the clearly dominant handheld system at the time.

Likewise, Nintendo has dominated the handheld gaming market since its beginning, whereas in the home console market Nintendo has not dominated on that level since the NES.

Further, while having duel screens is certainly something new, they are not as big a leap as having the Wiimote. While all Wii games (with the exception of a few like SSB: Brawl) use the Wiimote, many DS games make little or no use of duel screens (for example, the highly rated and highly successful New Super Mario Bros. and Mario Kart DS).

Thus, I don't believe that the DS's success really says anything about how successful (or not) the Wii will be. Again, I'm not saying the Wii is necessary doomed to fall short of the DS's success, merely that its not guaranteed to achieve it.
