GameStop: Wii Blaster due on June 27

The argument that there's no link between video games and violence may be a little harder to convince parents of later this month. Just try telling mom and dad that every thing's cool on June 27 when their toddler points the Wii sawed-off shotgun in their face and asks them (with an adorable speech impediment) if they feel "wucky."
Joking aside, we're interested to see how the attachment, advertised in the latest GameStop online newsletter, actually works. The $20 blaster's not actually made by Nintendo, so we're hopeful that the answer, if not "really well," will at least be "not horribly." But don't worry, you can use it to play Duck Hunt! ... You know, when it comes out.

Wow cool also works on Resident Evil 4, Wii Edition. I hope Namco gets smart and brings Time Crisis and Point blank to the Wii, it just makes sense! Also SEGA with Virtua Cop and House of the Dead. Really now does it not just make sense to have them on the Wii? They aren't graphically intense games, and the action goes by too fast to care about extremely detailed graphics... oh and the Wii Remote... can act like a gun :D

I know you are gamers, but any nerd, worth his/her salt, knows that line is with a .44 Magnum. The line to use with a sawed off shotgun is "This is my boomstick!"
Get your references right, people!

hmm for 20 bucks im willing to try....

My very first post here, and I got the attention of the article writer. Nice!
But I didn't get sent a password with my confirmation email. >:(
Borat @ Jun 16th 2007 12:59PM
Wii Play uses the "A" button to shoot and RE 4 uses the "B" button, both of which are on the wiimote. How the hell are you supposed to press those buttons using this thing?
LTNK @ Jun 16th 2007 1:02PM
Got my password now. Sorry for the accidental double posting.
As for an official Nintendo zapper, maybe one will be announced at E3.

I hope people dont expect this to automagically turn their wiimote into a light gun, instead of a relative pointer.

Don't be jealous because your PS3 controller can't do this. :)
No one expects it to be a light gun... duh.

One thing that would've been nice about having Time Crisis 4 on Wii, is how the arcade version has the extra speakers for voice communications from the characters. Would've worked well with the Wii Remote's speaker, I think (even if it might have to be down-sampled a bit).
Anyhoo... $20 is too much for that cheap, plastic add-on. It does nothing but works as a cradle for your existing Wii Remote and Nunchuk.

WHERE IS THE OFFICIAL NINTENDO BLASTER SHELL?
Why hasn't Nintendo come out with this so that game developers can start making games tailored to it? Why is Nintendo being silent on this issue?
Grant @ Jun 16th 2007 2:56PM
did they want to make it look as gay a possible?
if so, mission accomplished.
mike @ Jun 16th 2007 4:17PM
other brands (also not made by nintendo) have been out for some time

Actually I'm willing to bet you that any casual who buys this IS expecting to get something like a light gun. The moment they get home and this thing is way off target I expect some frowns.
Accompanied by bitching on forums. =)
deaftly @ Jun 16th 2007 7:07PM
wow thats gay looking, add it to the list of overpriced wii accessories
Genital Ben @ Jun 16th 2007 8:37PM
Maybe you can use the gun to shoot yourself in the head when you have realized how much cash you have wasted on a piece of plastic.
Phazon @ Jun 17th 2007 2:13AM
What do you use to move your character?
59672 @ Jun 17th 2007 9:26AM
In Canada it is already out and I bought one! Too bad you Americans have to wait.
Yashamaru @ Jun 17th 2007 12:40PM
@ 59672
Why would it already be out in Canada? Especially when Core Gamer (the developer and publisher of the Wii Blaster) is based in America. You either got it because your store broke street date or you're a liar. Most likely trying to make Canada seem better. Well, it's not. Just look at you Canadian Eb games website, it sucks. And you think hockey is the best thing in the world. Also, maple syrup isn't that great.
(Note: I don't hate Canadians, I just hate the ones who think they are better than the U.S. Even though we all know Japan is the best country. )

Won't work to well on RE4 I think. Parts of the game make you shake the remote back and forth (chopping that root growing out of Gigante's head, running from falling boulders, fighting Wesker...).
That'll be pretty awkward will hold a Dirty Harry hand-cannon.
