Drown your 360 sorrows with Ring of Fire parody song
The red ring of death is something no 360 gamer ever wants to see. However, every time you turn around you seem to hear about another one being sighted somewhere. In fact, Microsoft ran out of boxes to return them in. It's there a secret cardboard shortage we don't know about that's even more dire than the oil crisis?
Xbox 360 lover Jeromy "Doc" Adams lovingly paid tribute to both Johnny Cash and the console in his Ring of Fire song. We know you'll appreciate it. Think this thing is getting any airplay up in Redmond?

Very well done! Personally I've seen the ring 3 or 4 times, but I never let it get to me since I bought the extended warranty. I learned that it's a wise choice to do that after I went through 3 PS2's.

Very appropriate, mine died on wednesday. I only got 3 red lights though, had to find a suitable mail-a-coffin for it which was tough enough!

Funny, but innacurate from my experience. Mine just went out, and I just got off the phone with Xbox Support an hour ago. It wasn't difficult to use, it understood exactly what I was saying... no problems at all.
Well, there was one small problem. My system is out of warranty, and it'll cost me $140 to get it fixed. But it's better than buying a new one.
Triforceowner @ Jun 17th 2007 7:30PM
You know you made the correct console choice for yourself when your list of exclusive purchase options during the summer is only a few less than another console's for a year.
BioShock
Forza Motorsports 2
Mass Effect
Overlord
Too Human
Two Worlds
Shadowrun
I don't mean to add to the list war; this is more of a personal thing than something anyone else should consider. All I'm saying is I'm happy, and everyone else here should be seeing the lists of games we will all be able to play.
Halo 3
Triforceowner @ Jun 17th 2007 7:33PM
Where did that halo 3 come from at the end of my post, LOL. Oh, it was supposed to be part of the list, my bad.
Ian Von Porter @ Jun 17th 2007 7:39PM
That was very well done.. lol!
Wobble @ Jun 17th 2007 7:56PM
i personally just had a run in with the red ring of death its the damn X clamps + crappy airflow guide thats killing them. seeing as i had nothing to loose i replaced the xclamps with a better mounting mechanism that got it booting but it took a heat gun to reflow the solder to get it stable. =D if your out of warranty might as well give both of thoes options a shot i mean its all ready out of warranty and broken :) you really cant make it much worse =D
cesp00l @ Jun 17th 2007 8:38PM
I wonder how many people have ended up spending more on a xbox360 than if they had bought a PS3 when you take into account the 140 dollar replacement cost... I know, the 360 is awesome and a lot of you woulda bought it if it was the same price as a PS3, but it is kinda interesting to think about.
Also something to think about. playstations have a 10 year life span, sony has said so and it seems to reflect accurately judging by the fact that the ps2 is still having games made for it. Xbox on the other hand, had about a 5 year life span. If that is true for the 360, then the next gen for Microsoft will require you to buy another console in around 2010, whereas ps3 will be having games made until 2016.
I don't know about you all, but it seems more and more obvious to me that although the ps3 had a higher initial cost, the actual cost of the ps3 is actually lower.
Fanboys...flame away.
polly @ Jun 17th 2007 10:06PM
lol...that was great. might have to karaoke it at the bars for some nerd rep.
Triforceowner @ Jun 17th 2007 10:12PM
So cesp00l is dragging to variables in. Durability and life time are the two factors. I like how you compare the PlayStation 3's life time to the PS2's, but don't comment on the PS2's durability. Interesting take.
Iacobus @ Jun 17th 2007 10:36PM
The ring of fire isn't a console crash message, it just means your AV cables aren't plugged in.
Therefore, the graphic is incorrect.
Mmhmm.
davidsinnott @ Jun 17th 2007 10:49PM
The PS3 does not have a 10 year life span. 10 years is how long Sony will be pushing the consoles to make a profit.
The PS2 had the same deal yet I went through SIX of them. I hate to think how much it will cost me to go through SIX PS3's.
Matt B @ Jun 17th 2007 11:11PM
Let me know if that happens davidsinnott.
Please, let us all know when and if that happens.
davidsinnott @ Jun 18th 2007 2:21AM
What? When I go through six PS3s?
I said I hate to think how much that will cost. But I can if you really want me to.
You will have to wait for the PS3 to get some games I want first. It might take a while.
FrankTheCrank @ Jun 18th 2007 9:04AM
Wow...I was seriously ready to plunk down $399 for this thing, but with all these RROD stories, FORGET IT!! No friggin way!!
Micro$oft, you better do something about this. You think selling 154,000 units in May was bad. If this continues...it's only going to get worse.
AirIntake @ Jun 18th 2007 9:42AM
@SeNiLe911
Why didn't you hold on to your hard drive?
Genius @ Jun 18th 2007 10:39AM
And with this, it is the exact reason why Ill never buy a 360. How Microsoft was able to make such a crappy piece of hardware yet get consumers (see fanboys) to accept having to pay $140 just to get it fixed even though it was no fault of their own is amazing.
Although the only "next gen" (if you can even call it that) console that I own is a Wii and I despise that thing.
Phranctoast @ Jun 18th 2007 12:17PM
This seems like MS's biggest downfall. I even want one for the exclusives, but when all but one of the people I know with one have already experienced the ring of death, theres no point in bothering.
cesp00l @ Jun 18th 2007 12:30PM
@davidsinnott
Maybe I am misinformed. I know some people had problems with the launch PS2s, but I didn't think people thought the PS2s had the same level of failure that the xbox360's did. Is that what you are claiming?
And what was your replacement process like? Did you have to pay for each replacement of the PS2?
@Triforceowner
true I didn't comment on the PS2 failure rate...but I also didn't comment on the xbox failure rate...was this wrong of me, I don't know. Are you saying the failure rate of the PS2 was signifanctly more than the xbox?
jojockamo @ Jun 18th 2007 4:41PM
AND I STILL WANT ONE!!!!!!!
I dont own a 360 yet, but Im able to play at a friends who owns 2.(He has a bachlor pad setup)He's gone through 5 systems between the 2. And I still want one. I have a great time playing and love the games on it so far. Plus I'll save gas being able to play from home.
So far for current Gen, I have a Wii (Im afraid to beat Zelda, fearing I will stop using the system. And Im a Nintendo fanboy, Stocks in the company and all)Down the road I'm sure I'll look into getting a PS3, but MGS4 is all I want so far.
davidsinnott @ Jun 18th 2007 11:08PM
@ cesp00l The PS2 was a faulty mess of a machine (Seemingly most of the problems came from the DVD drive I believe) I do consider myself VERY unlucky to have gone through that many units during its life span. I know of only one person who didnt need ore than one unit and thats my friend who is still using his launch console daily and its going strong.
I dont know how the PS2 compares to the 360 in terms of failure rate all I know is that alot of PS2's failed (I also had problems with the Slim ps2 due to a design fault with the cable used to connect the DVD drive).
I only had one die during its waranty period and that was a pretty easy replacement at the point of sale. The others I just had to buy new consoles (Not as bad when the prices got quite low on them)
The point I was trying to make though was that it was not a huge deal to me. Alot of people are complaining about the "real cost" of the 360 and I think thats a silly argument.
I spent probably well over 6 grand on the PS2 all up (Consoles, games and extras) during its life. Is that the real cost of the console? Not by me.
Everyone can have an opinion though and thats cool. I do think that the 360 should be alot more stable though. It should be easy to fix seeing as most of the faults are coming from the GPU.
cesp00l @ Jun 19th 2007 5:41PM
@ davidsinnott
Good points. I too am willing to pay extra for something I like. Thats why I have a PS3. And I understand why people like the xbox360.
The "silly argument" I was trying to make is to all those people who say..."I wanted a PS3, but it was too expensive." To all those people who I see trolling this site and others, I say have fun with your cheaper 360, but when it gets to be more expensive than my PS3, don't cry. It is cheaper for a reason.
P.S. I know, I know, there are better games for the xbox360. But price should not be a reason ANYONE buys a 360 over a PS3.
