Sorry for being off topic, but I thought someone here would know.
Does Blockbuster's no late fees work for xbox games?

Blu ray won't have any competition until the average consumer decides to upgrade to the next gen movie format. Right now Blu ray is winning because it is included in the PS3. I personally don't give a damn about HD movies and i think i speak for the majority (proboly not people on this site). A smart move by sony as far as winning the format war (Console war is debatable). They will have a head start on HD DVD. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Blockbuster isn't dead or irrelevant. The store near my house is always filled with people renting wheelbarrows full of titles. I really am leery of online distribution rentals due to the "queing" mishaps netflix is known for. They even reported that on the national news.

akm, trio, aberu, et al, you call yourselves gamers??

it's utterly tragic that you (and Sony) are counting on a MOVIE format to win this VIDEOGAME console race. that's the main focus of playstation fanboys arguments and how they justify the frankly retarded $600 price: "BUT IT PLAYZ HD MOVIEZ". well you're at the wrong site, we like games here. remember those?

yeah playing movies is cool too, and there's overlap with the audience but movie playback on PS2 was a *bonus*, it was still about games FIRST, as it should be. on the PS3 movie playback is a $200 REQUIREMENT.

at least on 360 it's an *option*. they at least still have their priorities right with their GAME console. (go for the RROD joke here sony fanboyzzzz)

not only has Sony lost its way with the "play"station, but they managed to get you to go along with them.

and don't even start with "Blu-Ray is for games" bit. multiple game discs have been in this industry as long as disc based games have been out, and they've never been issue. have you ever seen a game rating go *down* because it was on multiple discs? thought not.

two big games of Sony's this summer wouldn't even fill a DVD (WarHawk, Socom) so tell me guys, what "gen" are those games? yeah i don't expect an answer.

you guys clinging to your brands make me sick, flipping your argument as need be just to be on the side of your corporate masters. back in PS2 days, "hardware didn't matter, it's about the GAMES". now Sony told you to say "its about MOVIES" and you faithfully follow.

way to think for yourselves. 'boys.

I continue to seethe as I watch the more expensive format win for no logical reason whatsoever.

I really don't get fanboyism with HD formats... Guess it's because the HD-DVD'ers picked the soon-to-be losing format and cannot bear to face that fact.
One format is BEST for ALL of us. BLU-RAY was the better choice from jump just on their studio support alone, which is what matters when it comes to movies.
The sooner HD-DVD dies, the sooner we really start to see some great HD titles take off on BD.
I never cared who won, I never wanted this stupid format war and blame both camps. But since it happened, I'm backing the better choice, which right now is still BD. Hopefully retailers like BestBuy and Circuit City follow suit and deliver the final death blow to HD-DVD

I only cared because Bluray is expensive and HDDVD is cheap, and I don't like spending money. Apparently you do.

As a Blockbuster employee, I don't think this is going to effect stores significantly until later on down the road. There is only one store I know of in the west metro Detroit area that carries both HDDVD and Blu-Ray, and they're not even renting them out that much. BB would be wise to wait another year to find out what the consumer wants. Most customers I talk to (and we're a high volume store - 3500 active customers) haven't even heard of Blu-ray or HDDVD, let alone own an HDTV player. So I think this point is moot for at least two years.

And to say Blockbuster is dead is kind of a dumb comment. They're not doing great, but they're not on their last breath. You can talk about BB dying maybe 10 years down the road...their business practices are killing them internally, not Netflix.
And as for the first comment about BB sending you to collections for a $10 charge, you're just too petty to pay for your lazy ass not returning a movie on time. If a BB would let every customer walk through their doors without a penalty for keeping movies, then I don't think they would have made it out of the 80s.

And yes, Phizzle, the no late fee policy goes for every rental in the store. If you turn in your game past the 7 day grace period, you'll only owe a $1.25 restocking fee. Unless you hold the game for 30 more days past the grace period, then you just owe for the movie/game and you can't return it.

And as a last note, I really don't see either format winning. It's a lose-lose situation for the mainstream consumer. They've just upgraded from VHS to DVD in the past year or two and NOW they're forcing another format onto the shelves? And they have to pony up for a TV and player to take advantage of the technology. You didn't have to do that with regular DVD (just the player). Most people don't have the money to invest in the format. Although it will have it's niche audience - but I highly doubt either format is going to dominate like DVD is now within the next 5-10 years.
