Circuit City offers free copies of Shadowrun to Halo 2 Vista buyers
Microsoft, for lack of better explanation, sent Shadowrun out to die last month. Not only was it released during the Halo 3 Beta, but on the same day as the considerably more anticipated racer, Forza Motorsport 2. And while it's too early to decide whether the suicide mission was a success or not (depending on how you look at it), Circuit City is dumping their Vista copies of Shadowrun for "free," as long as you don't mind it piggy-backing Halo 2 Vista for $39.99.Shadowrun, like an episode of Ugly Betty, is proof that underneath it all is something worth getting to know, but not something worth getting for more than $20. Still, judging from reviews, this could be a way to get folks to spend their money, officially, on the much debated Halo 2 Vista port.
Regardless of whichever way you see it: $40 bucks for Halo 2 Vista or a free copy of Shadowrun, there seems to be a loser somewhere in this scenario.

Azumanga ftw.
Also, this is pretty sad. I'd wager a guess at another aspect of the poor sales: Vista only!

And Best Buy is dumping PS3s this week. You get one for free when you buy an LCD HDTV.
See, it isn't a "promotion," it's "dumping."

I love Osaka... I was just thinking of her the other day (as well as Tomoe and Hikari).
Stu @ Jun 18th 2007 8:16PM
Shadowrun wasn't that great in my opinion. I mean it was a well done game but as an arena game only? 2 Thumbs down. If it had some single player story I'd be all about it, but alas.

"I'd wager a guess at another aspect of the poor sales: Vista only! "
I know that's why I didn't bite.
The pic reminds me of a video I saw a long time ago, where somebody synced up Osaka with a Mac commercial. It was pure comedy gold.

maybe this is proof that they overpriced both the vista and console version of a multiplayer only game...this is the start of showing microsoft that they cant get away with shit like this...i didnt get shadowrun...nor did i get the guitar hero DLC
AndrewNeo @ Jun 18th 2007 8:55PM
Whaa? I paid $50 for it before the first delay! >.> Not fair.
JJ @ Jun 18th 2007 9:00PM
actually josh the TV/PS3 combo their selling (along with a game and a blu ray movie mind you) is only about 100 bucks cheaper than getting them seperately, so its not even really free since the TV can be found elsewhere for as low as 1500 bucks (the set is 2089 if i recall.
So the only thing you're really getting free is a copy of casino royal and MLB 07.
but this is bad news for a PC game that ONLY came out a few weeks ago.
laserboyjc @ Jun 18th 2007 9:01PM
you don't get a free PS3, you "save" $400 when you buy a 1080p Sony tv, a PS3, a game, and a blu-ray movie...great if you were going to do all that already, but that it not what I would call a "free" system

"If it had some single player story I'd be all about it, but alas."
Seriously? The lack of a story was a big plus imo. FPS stories are pretty much the bottom of the barrel in terms of game plots. Why bother trying to explain all the crazy stuff in that game? It'd be a waste of time and I doubt there's an explanation that would satisfy anyone over 13.
I think more games should quit trying to have a plot. That's why Zelda and Mario are timeless. They throw some generic princess rescue at you and you don't think twice about their motivation.

Darn. I already bought Shadowrun. It doesn't have a single player mode. The price seemed high. Doesn't make very good use of the Shadowrun license. AND I CAN'T STOP PLAYING IT. Honestly. I really don't understand all the complaining about the game. I judge a game soley on the amount of fun it brings me. I've already spent more time on this game than most games I've spent $60 on. If you don't think the game is fun, that's fine. But at least try the demo. I think they added a lot to a stagnent genre. I am hoping for some downloadable content.
Now, I wonder how much I could get for that copy of Shadowrun if I buy Halo...

The story in Shadowrun for SNES was awesome. So yes, we can be guaranteed it would have been an awesome story. Do some reading and lurk moar.
cheese @ Jun 19th 2007 2:30AM
They should have never coined the game with the title Shadowrun. I enjoyed the original Genesis RPG Shadowrun more than the FPS. I'm waiting to see if they offer some free downloads for SR, otherwise, if they charge for them, I'm trading it in. A good friend of mine is of the same opinion.

This is a deal... :)
Sorry guys...it is.....
The LIVE Service for Windows works well and you can finally get your achievement points for HALO 2 (that you always wanted anyway)
As for Vista...i wouldn't recommend an upgrade but if you are getting/building a new machine....hell yeah.
Currently running Vista 64-bit, 32-bit Home Premium on my desktops, and Ultimate on my new Tablet.
Suffice to say......you really don't see the full potential of the 360 until you have Media Center on a PC with an HDTV Tuner.
C.Bourdon @ Jun 19th 2007 5:50AM
My only disappointment with this game is the liberty they took with the story line. I played this paper and pencil game religiously when I was in high school, read every single novel they put out, even the crappy ones after the buy out by Whiz Kids. I was sad to see how they changed it. And like others, I would have rather have seen a role playing version like the ones done for the SNES and the Genesis. Both of those were great games that were true to the original story lines. I bought this for the 360 and play it often. The customization of each character really makes for a great game. You never really know what you are going to go up against each match.
bl13 @ Jun 19th 2007 10:23AM
#2 had me excited then I found their selection of HDTV's eligible for the deal utterly lacking.
But I probably shouldn't have been excited about a Best Buy "deal" in the first place.
Kinsella @ Jun 19th 2007 11:03AM
I'll get it when they decide to make it a pack-in game with another...say a My Littly Pony game, or one based off of the Olsen twins. Other than that, I wanted a rpg, so this fps can do d.o.a.
ExMcloud @ Jun 19th 2007 4:06PM
Hey if they make the 360 version free with something or atleast cut the price to 30 I'd buy it cus I luv the demo alot
ivanjrn @ Jun 20th 2007 12:11AM
I bought Halo 2 vista at Circuit City for $39.99, and decided to try and see if they'd let me have the 360 version of Shadowrun for free instead of the Vista version. Sure enough, they scanned H2V for $39.99 and shadowrun 360 rang up for FREE. I'm very happy with that deal.
James @ Jun 20th 2007 7:51AM
Dammit, why is everybody reviewing the game they *didn't* make? "CRYSTAL CHRONICLES IS TEH SUX CUZ THEY SHOULD HAVE MADE AN RPG!!!1!" It's not an RPG; get over it and tell us if they game they *did* make is any good.
That said: the demo on 360 is pretty neat; I am unlikely to move to Vista just for one or two games; those guys making the "Vista compatibility layer" are taking too long.
