Those hoping to engage in wanton shape genocide without a console's involvement can now look towards Valve's online game distribution service, Steam, now hosting a Windows XP version of Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved. Developed by Bizarre Creations and considered by many to be the Xbox 360's first must-have game, Geometry Wars is being offered at an introductory price of $2.50, half that of its 2005 "supposed to be free" launch price. The game will be shifted to $3.95 starting June 22.
If Steam isn't your thing either, perhaps this holiday season's Geometry Wars: Galaxies on the Wii and DS will be enough to enlist you in the fight against circles and diamonds. Failing that, we'll have to conclude that you're one of them -- a total square.

I'd hold off for a little while, I can't get it to download the install files, it's so busy. (Or my internet sucks, both are viable scenarios.)

How are you going to play without two sticks?
This is one case where PC gamers can't claim dominance.

$2.50? Wow. I guess I'll actually rock the XP version until the Galaxies take over.

Joe: You can hook a wired 360 controller to a PC, IIRC. And I believe there are other dual-analog-stick controllers for PC out there.

Any duel analog controller, including the wireless and wired 360 controllers will work. Isn't this cheaper than it is on xbox live?
There's been hacked versions for windows out for a while =/

@ Joe
I assume it would play like Grid wars; wasd for movement and mouse for shooting.

WSAD and mouse work great (better than Grid Wars I think, or it might be the same, can't remember) but I use a PS2 controller (with adapter) personally.
I have Vista, but bought the XP version because I didn't see any differences, it's way cheaper, and I can play it on my XP laptop.

It's amazing how many different ways Ludwig Kietzmann can write about Geometry Wars. Good job.

Just bought it, but can't get it to run (just get stuttering audio and a black screen). Sounds like I'm not the only one having trouble, though.

Can't get it to work properly with a dual-analog Logitech Rumblepad (left stick works, but the right one doesn't).

Runs and plays great with a controller S using XBCD, best use of $2.50 I could find, perfectly tuned port/rewrite.

i got a 12 button dual analogue USB pad for about $4 (no name.. well, Elecom) and it works great on my PC. Been using it for N64 emulators and Tomb Raider Legend and they work great.

If only this wasn't on Steam, I'd...
Whoa, wait... 60 MEGS? ARE YOU GUYS SERIOUS?
Yes, I am seriously shouting this question. Does the game come with a dozen music tracks, or what?!
60 MEGS?!?!

Geometry Wars was the only reason for me to even touch a 360, let alone buy one - and even then it wasn't enough. What the hell M$ was thinking making the PC version Vista-only to start with is beyond me.
Now they release it for XP over Steam. Oh joy. What's wrong with a normal download and install?
