Legendary Pictures producing Diablo film [update]
The official website of film production company Legendary Pictures has recently been updated to reflect a Diablo movie entering development alongside the previously announced World of Warcraft film. As far as game-to-film adaptations go, Blizzard's demonic role-player probably represents one of the better properties to mine, certainly ranking above The Sims and Dead or Alive. Examining the group's lineup of completed films, which includes Batman Begins and 300, vaguely instills some confidence in this adaptation, but we think you'll find the hands of movie executives usually have a way of wringing that out of you.
No other information about the Diablo film has been disclosed, though it seems a fair guess that it'll have the eponymous villain attempting to wreck the world, only to be foiled by a floating arrow constantly jabbing at his head. Blizzard was unavailable for comment at the time of writing -- presumably off shoving large jewels into their skulls.

I wonder if the movie will have lines like "Come Baba Act 4 gogogogogogo" or "What was that unique?" or my personal favorite, a druid running by calling for help all while decimating all the hordes of demons around him with almost no effort.

Gah, Joystiq! Woody Allen already created this Dramedy, it's called Deconstructing Harry!
It brought such wonderful quotes like this...
The Devil: You ever fuck a blind girl?
Harry Block: No. That I never did.
The Devil: Oh, they're so grateful.

This could defiantly work.
But it has a better chance of failing.

I've been imagining this since before I hit puberty. Seriously.
It kind of concerns me though, because I would want a Diablo movie to be a really good movie. As we all know, video game movies usually aren't. But the fact that this company made Batman Begins and 300 actually excites me.

This reminds me of this awsome old Diablo 2 ad:

A little late, eh? Most of the kids that will see this, imo, weren't even born when the game was released.

lol yeah it would be great if at the end they beat diablo with guided arrow cheese, or even poison dagger, followed by a TP and waiting for 3 minutes.
Also will Tyreal be in this?
There should be a final showdown: 8 heroes vs Diablo, and right before he dies, eveyone stops fighting, getting ready to grab his lewt. In the calm Diablo casts one last spell and kills everyone off. Then the poison dagger necro comes back through his TP and bags the uniques.

OK, most of you guys are acting like this is gonna be a film based on Diablo II. I seriously doubt it. I would assume that this is gonna be based on the original Diablo.

Lol @8 Rare Hare
Wh0 t3h Fux played D1abl0 orig????
I kid. But since everyone's mind jumped to diablo ii, it's obviously the more popular of the series and would only make more sense. Not to mention it has a richer/longer story. C'mon hellforge runs!
NvM @ Jun 18th 2007 5:53PM
Also I might add, there were novels(that actually didnt suck) written based on Diablo II.

This will be as craptastic as DOOM and should do marginally better than DOA. It won't be half the blockbuster Super Mario Bros. was.

It could be awesome. Blizzard always creates a lot of truly excellent backstory.
Of course, the game itself, what you actually play through, has a terrible story. Everything interesting happens before your character is created or after you strike the last blow.
I suppose both have pretty cool endings, though.
Rare Hare @ Jun 19th 2007 4:06AM
Based on the backstory and lore of the Diablo world, this could be truly awesome. Anyone who still has the book from the original game lying around somewhere, I'd suggest that you give it a read through. It's all really detailed and thought out.

IN 2 weeks ago's PC Gamer POdcast, maybe 3 weeks...on vacation so out of the loop here, a D2 movie was discussed, and there's was something in Variety Magazine about it. Former PC Gamer EIC Gary Whitta (who writes screen plays now) is rumoured to be writing it, though he claims he isn't allowed to talk about it.

Comments 1 and 7, about the druid and the one about waiting after hitting diablo with poison dagger definitely made me laugh way too hard at work.
Shit, if this movie is half as good as Doom, you can sign me up to buy tickets for me and all my friends.
Especially is Karl Urban is in it.
So really, I think I just learned what constitutes a good movie for me. And that's Karl Urban.

The point still satys however...its obvious every diablo fan is going to see it and will be a masterpiece on accident....or it could possibly be good...we will see
