Ace Combat 6 flight stick bundle
It's no Steel Battalion control console, but who are we to be picky?
Namco Bandai announced today an Ace Combat 6 bundle that includes a flightstick dubbed Ace-Edge. The entire package, which also includes a custom Xbox 360 faceplate, will retail for $150. Flight enthusiasm may have the wallet for that, but we'll stick with a cheaper option like Tiltboard. Or more likely, we'll just play with our unmodded Xbox 360 controllers and be happy with that.
Ace Combat 6 is coming exclusively to Xbox 360 this holiday season.

I'm really sick of this whole thing with Microsoft only letting their controllers be wireless. I might've considered this flight stick bundle if it weren't for the stupid wire.
Oliver Cromwell @ Jun 19th 2007 2:37AM
I don't care if it's wireless. Anything that cost 150 bucks and isn't an actual console isn't worth it. Wait a year and buy it for 1/4 the price.
OhJustSomeRandomGuy @ Jun 19th 2007 2:46AM
F**K!
What am I supposed to do with my old Ace Comabt flight stick?! It's the same frickin' controller, except for the colors and the old one's USB, too.
My old controller better work with the 360 or I'm going to be PISSED.
Cromwell:
It's not JUST the controller for $150. It's the controller and the game. (plus the worthless face plate.) In addition, Hori produced such a limited supply of these when the PS2 version of AC4 came out (they didn't release a model for AC5) that the controller itself was going for upwards of $200 on eBay.
It makes a HUGE difference when playing the game.
LTNK @ Jun 19th 2007 3:05AM
DWells, that will be over soon, as they are allowing the Guitar Hero III controller to be wireless.
Smallshinyant @ Jun 19th 2007 3:41AM
ignoring the price and the wires, it looks cool and brings back memories of PC gaming. as 'oliver cromwell' says the price will go down.. not sure i want to wait a year.
Will be much a much more worthy investment if there are more games that support it.
GoonieGooGoo @ Jun 19th 2007 4:03AM
Daaaaamn.....now that's what I'm talking about.
As a proud STEEL BATTALION Owner....I can only applaud the option to purchase this baby. Sure it isn't for everyone....but that's the point.
It's all about choice people.......and you'd be hard pressed not to be happy to get this if you are an ACE COMBAT Fan (which I am).
Definitely a Collector's item.....

@1..i hope that was a bit of sarcasm.. :/

This open posibilities for a true flight sim on the X360!! Sad is a niche market now only on PC.
UltimateQ @ Jun 19th 2007 4:30AM
That is such a ripoff of http://www.saitekusa.com/usa/prod/x52.htm
ill trooper @ Jun 19th 2007 4:37AM
I LOVE it... Except for the green... Seems someone typed in the wrong Pantone number for the 'official 360 lime green'
Yeah, this will eventually sit and collect dust like my VirtualBoy and my Steel Battalion controller... But answering the queries of my puzzled friends as to what it is, well, that's where the fun continues, long after the thrill of the game is over!
(Or, in the case of Steel Battalion: ...when the game is rendered useless on the 360 by a lack of legacy controller support).
Dustin @ Jun 19th 2007 5:32AM
OMFG That is such a ripoff of http://www.canit.se/~griffon/aviation/gripen/cockpit/cockpit.jpg
Peaefuloutrage @ Jun 19th 2007 7:25AM
@dustin
This bundle includes the $60 game, $20 faceplate, and STILL works on a PC. So Thet really makes this controller about $70 ($90 if you don't want the FP). Not bad for a controller that has a smaller market share than the PC AND has to pay console licensing fees.
sheppy @ Jun 19th 2007 8:03AM
I'll wait to see if it has a hollow, weightless shell or if they put some heft to it.
Jake @ Jun 19th 2007 8:31AM
UltimateQ,
You call it a ripoff, then link to a controller that costs $40-60 more, depending on whether or not you want the faceplate. You suck at arguing.
Sheppy,
Fun fact for you. Usually handheld electronic devices with "heft" to them contain weights (and batteries) to give them a "quality" feel. The irony is that the weights make them more likely to break when dropped.
Gimbal @ Jun 19th 2007 8:55AM
This would be awesome if I didn't already have a Saitek X36 for the PC.
Does this have the rudder control on the big rocker switch on the throttle? Or do you twist the stick like the newer Saitek's?
sheppy @ Jun 19th 2007 9:06AM
@Jake
I knew that. But between having to cut metal bars and measure them out for insertion and just buying one with a weight to it, I prefer the weighted kind. Without heft, it feels too much like a toy and has a hard time staying down during frantic moments. This coming from a guy who recently added 12 lbs to the pedal system on the Steel Battalion controller.
Bman @ Jun 19th 2007 9:37AM
Argh, I already have this joystick. I bought it years ago when it was called the Saitek X45. I wonder if I'll be able to use it :/

Now if only MS releases Flight Simulator X for the 360.
Aex @ Jun 19th 2007 10:34AM
To those hoping to use your old controllers with the Xbox 360. I wish you luck. I've been hoping, sending emails and basically whining all over the internets to get my Logitech Driving Force Pro to work on Forza 2, to no avail. I wish you better luck than I to succeed in this battle over MS proprietary accessories.
Dustin @ Jun 19th 2007 11:03AM
I love this new age of dedicated controllers. If we can just get a new steel battalion with an even bigger controller I would be as happy as a little girl.
Joshua @ Jun 19th 2007 11:16AM
Looks good to me. I remember trying to play Ace Combat 4 over at my cousin's house one time for a few minutes. It was kind of hard with a controller and didn't feel "authentic". I'm probably getting a 360 this year, and this looks like a good time to jump on the Ace Combat train to me...
OhJustSomeRandomGuy @ Jun 19th 2007 12:40PM
Gimbal: It's based off of the older Saiteks. The rudder control is on the big rocker switch.
(Yes, I own the old controller, and it's basically the same as the Saitek. There were threads on the old AC4 boards for retrofitting the AC4 controller to use with the PC with some modified Saitek drivers, I believe.)
As I stated earlier, Hori produced a VERY limited number of these controllers for AC4, and didn't produce them for AC5. It's unlikely you're going to see more than say, 8,000 of these things.
Bear in mind that the AC franchise may not continue on the 360, either. If AC fares poorly, Bamco is going to jump ship again...and you'll be stuck with a controller that only works for one game. On the PS2, it at least worked with AC 4 and 5, and it was backwards compatible with AC 3.
ferrarimanf355 @ Jun 19th 2007 2:49PM
I so want one of these. ^_^
Dud @ Jun 19th 2007 2:56PM
No wireless? No purchase.
We've moved beyond wired controllers. I'm still waiting for when I can buy Guitar Hero also.
Still waiting.
hypnotiza @ Jun 20th 2007 1:26PM
Um, they must have bought all the old Saitek x36 sticks, and painted them white. When the x36 was new it didn't cost 150, I know, because I got one. It was great while it lasted.
cyx @ Jun 20th 2007 1:40PM
@ OhJustSomeRandomGuy
Hori produced the Flightstick for AC4 and the Flightstick 2 for AC5. The latter was sold bundled with the game.
ashton324 @ Jul 22nd 2007 8:06AM
the flight stick is bang the same as the saitek x36 but not as good microsoft a stealing ideas of saitek :(
