Gamespot oopsies about Katamari on XBLA
Gamespot has retracted all mention that Beautiful Katamari will release on Xbox Live Arcade and "regrets the error." Screw-up or cover-up? You decide. Gamespot now says that the game will be released as a "full retail package and not a download." Gamespot is typically on the ball, it's very out of character for them to just make a major statement like Beautiful Katamari would be on XBLA without reason.Beautiful Katamari has had a very odd public trip so far. First it popped up when Orange Lounge Radio discovered it in retail computers. Then Namco Bandai strong-armed the independent podcast to pull the story, but then the game also ended up on GameFly with a fall release. Then it was confirmed for all systems and finally became a possible Xbox 360 exclusive, which led to the XBLA announcement. Heck, we've still got another four months or so before the game comes out, what other things can be picked up in this beautiful katamari of crazy gaming news?

Katamari for $60.
woo.......hoo

Still shows up on amazon for all three systems, at $40 for the next-gens and $30 for the Wii one. At the very least, I think that price is probably right...

If these people charge $60 for Katamari I will be surprised. Just because it plays on the 360 doesn't mean it's worth the next-gen price. This title seems perfect for the XBLA for $10. If it does come out on disc, I wonder why MS is so afraid to release full games via the Marketplace? Sony is already doing it(VF5) on the PSN and look how long it's been around. You would think XBL would be blazing the online trail..
Wait.. With all the DRM that MS has on download content maybe this isn't such a good idea. Considering you never really own the games you are renting them..

I hope it gets a multi-platform release. I'd rather get it for the PSTRIPLE. Motion controls + HD goodness = win
Ratboy @ Jun 19th 2007 11:34PM
It would be nice to see a Katamari game released on platforms with motion control (read: PS3 and Wii) because it seems like a game which was designed with motion control in mind if ever there was one. That's why I was so suprised by the 360 exclusive announcement.

If cooking mama is $50, then why cant DK be $60?
hvnlysoldr @ Jun 19th 2007 11:38PM
It'll be rated AO because of the Church of England. Then JT will sue R* over it. Then the exclusivity flies out the window and hits a bus of nuns that sends it careening into a Ferrari driven by Gizmodo Swedish mafia boss.

Well, seeing as they slipped up about the Sring update, and that turned out to be right, I am betting it WILL come out on XBLA, and they just don't want to get sued.

I'll be very sad if this game is axed for PS3 and/or the Wii. One might think the Wii is a perfect candidate for this game...

My friend said his friend who works for Namco said that these screens are fake to throw us off. The game will really be released as a mobile game and will also start shipping with the iPhone soon.
I'm so excited!
Daran @ Jun 20th 2007 2:21AM
In the latest game Informer (came in yesterday), it still lists it as a PS3/XB360 game, if that matters...

Don't lie, we know you don't have any friends.
IslandLife @ Jun 20th 2007 8:07AM
Yup, and the latest PSM also has an in-depth preview of the game for PS3. Is Namco trying to just confuse us all or what?
Ross @ Jun 20th 2007 9:07AM
Gee, it almost sounds like Gamespot's story was 'total crap'! ;-)
Jake @ Jun 20th 2007 9:17AM
I was pretty sure it was a BS story when I heard it. How are they going to make a several GB game downloadable. They would have had to downgrade the graphics of the last version and ditch HD or something. I don't expect this thing be monster with insane gfx or anything, but I'd expect like 3Gb of space minimum to be used on it.
mccomber @ Jun 20th 2007 10:14AM
"One might think the Wii is a perfect candidate for this game..."
My thoughts exactly, and I don't even a Wii to play it on. Of all the systems for it to go exclusive to, the 360 was definitely the last one I would have predicted. This was one of the titles that was going to make the Wii a little more interesting until we learn what ends up being made with NiGHTS.
I'm sure the reason we keep seeing so much info about this for the ps3/wii as well is that it isn't "official" yet, and the magazines went to publication before the rumor clock was moved up to 1 minute to midnight. Either that, or the rumor was false to begin with.
Guess E3 is going to be full of "surprises", eh?

@12:
It's true.
Sigh.
