Halo 3 achievements unlocked, here be spoilers

Today's winner of the Internet is Xbox 360 Achievements as they have uncovered the full achievements list to the most anticipated game of the year, Halo 3. Their reward, regardless of whether they accept it or not, is our undying gratitude and a spirit crushing bandwith bill arriving on the doorstep later this month. Congratulations!
The list, which comes in at 49 achievements long, contains a few spoilers regarding the campaign, secret collectibles, as well as some events that simply baffle us at this point in time. While others may be obvious, the "Marathon Man" achievement -- completed by accessing all terminals within the campaign -- leaves us thinking that Halo 3 may have more in common with Marathon: Durandal than previously thought. Think about it.

I'm also thinking that there will be some Marathon tie ins...obviously nothing that completely changes what people think about the Halo universe, as most people have played Marathon so few would pick up on it. Just a few nods to the people who do know the background of the not-quite-prequels.
Countdown to some idiot in denial saying "it's not the most anticipated game of the year"...
Grindstone @ Jun 19th 2007 4:41PM
LOL! I love that pick -- in a non-challenging-my-heterosexual-preference way.
Those achievements seem a little weak. And why so much emphasis on Free-for-all MP?
Kizzle @ Jun 19th 2007 4:45PM
Typo - meant most people HAVEN'T played Marathon.
...although that will probably change since it looks like the first sequel (why not the original?) is coming to XBLA.
Alex @ Jun 19th 2007 4:45PM
*yawn*. Very boring achievements. The only thing I like is the SC referenced achievement.
I'm actually quite dissapointed as all the achievements are for ranked matches. The Halo crowd is the absolute worst to play against in random games.
Konny @ Jun 19th 2007 4:47PM
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand... the Halo3 viral marketing campaign is well underway.
How many more freakin halo days until halo3 launches?
Willozap @ Jun 19th 2007 4:47PM
That's twice in a couple of posts - are you guys paid to say that Halo is the biggest title of the year? Cause millions of Pokemon and Marios might beg to differ.
Sega @ Jun 19th 2007 4:52PM
Why the hell do the graphics still look sketchy?
UGHHHHHHHHHHH!
Martin @ Jun 19th 2007 4:54PM
Halo is going to be the biggest title of the year for a crapload of people. I could care less about it, but to say that it's not is somewhat ridiculous.
jitty @ Jun 19th 2007 4:56PM
These achievements remind me a lot of the skill points that are in resistance
Jonah Falcon @ Jun 19th 2007 4:57PM
What is known, however, is that there are nine chapters/levels, titled "Landfall", "Holdout", "The Road", "Assault", "Cleansing", "Refuge", "Last Stand", "The Key", and "Return".
By the way, that pic is just plain WRONG. Morally. Spiritually. In every way.
Willozap @ Jun 19th 2007 4:58PM
Biggest title of the year for a crapload of people != biggest title of the year. Come back to me with sales data.
mike @ Jun 19th 2007 4:59PM
alomst all of the achievments (single and multiplayer) are to be achieved all alone. You cant even get those online ones in team games, needs to be FFA. Whos bright Idead was that. How dumb.

According to Wikipedia there have been over 4 million preorders for Halo 3 and it's still months away. That sounds pretty damn anticipated. I'm sure Mario will sell millions of copies, probably by the end of the year. But I doubt the retirement homes, kids, and dogs you see playing Wii on YouTube are sick with anticipation like the mobs of Halo fanboys.
Sales data has nothing to do with anticipation. Anticipation comes before release, sales come after. Preorders, internet hype, media coverage, etc. will better help you understand how anticipated something is.
Martin @ Jun 19th 2007 5:11PM
Yeah, what louie said.
Jonah Falcon @ Jun 19th 2007 5:13PM
Yeah, what *I* said - NO MORE IMAGES OF MASTER CHIEF'S CODPIECE!
Willozap @ Jun 19th 2007 5:16PM
Yeah louiedog, all very well. But you ignored my argument. Anticipation may be mad amongst certain quarters, but if Halo 3 outsells Pokemon Diamond / Pearl, I'll eat my hat. So I would say that 'biggest title of the year' can either be worked out on quantitative statistics, or you can qualify it by saying how anticipated it is 'amongst Halo fanboys'.
bl13 @ Jun 19th 2007 5:18PM
@13, where on wikipedia does it say that?
Jake @ Jun 19th 2007 5:23PM
Halo is the most anticipated title of the year, though likely won't be the best game this year. That is just the way it is. It may not sell the most copies. But it is the most anticipated game, clearly.
Going by just sales would say Cars was the most anticipated game a couple of years ago. Going just by quality is subjective. Going by critical reviews only would have the original Halo as the most anticipated game that year when only internet blog followers had even heard of the thing when it dropped and barely anyone had an xbox.
No, to measure anticipation you just have to look at how many comments the second thread about leaked achievements for a game 3 months from release gets.
Dormammu @ Jun 19th 2007 5:28PM
Willozap, you keep changing your argument. The original post doesn't say it will be the biggest game of the year. It says it is the most anticipated. Thus people arguing about the level of anticipation. If you hate Halo, just stop talking about it already!
Willozap @ Jun 19th 2007 5:35PM
Nah, I don't hate it - and I recognise that this post says anticipated. An earlier post said 'biggest'; I only commented here because I was surprised at two posts in quick succession that seemed a little too... enthusiastic, shall we say.
Jake @ Jun 19th 2007 5:38PM
Willozap,
Pokemon is mostly just big on handhelds. It is kind of assumed that we are talking consoles here. It is also a game designed for very young children. Also, it is mostly just big in Japan. And with 7 million copies sold, 5.7 million of which are in Japan, I wouldn't be absolutely shocked if Halo3 outsold it.
Also, it is a cheaper game for a cheaper system than Halo3. It is also selling to a much, much larger userbase. The percentage of people with DS's that buy Pokemon will be absolutely crushed by the percentage of people with 360's that get Halo3. And the amount of people that actually play Halo3 at some time, if even only on a friend's/sibling's system will probably also be crushed by Halo3.
Actually, a good way to measure it would be to see what percentage of people with a chance to buy Halo3 actually get it. The 360 has sold like 11 million or something systems, and, according to the internets their userbase should be smaller than that because of failure rates, so as low as maybe 10.5 million or 10. Halo3 is probably going to sell about 7 or more million copies by the time it is through.
You can get as complicated as you want, but the bottom line is that Halo3 just "is" the most anticipated game this year. It is the most talked about, loved, hated, respected, and (arguably)immitated game with a title dropping this year.
I know you hate it, but you just have to deal with it and move on.
Willozap @ Jun 19th 2007 5:44PM
Seriously, I don't hate it. I just hate willful self-delusion. Your favourite game isn't everyone's favourite game, and isn't going to be the biggest title of the year. I'm sure Halo 3'll be great, but discounting the people that love Pokemon because they are children or Japanese won't change the numbers.
Mr Khan @ Jun 19th 2007 6:00PM
I wouldn't question Halo 3's status as most anticipated title, based on the fact that many people long for it badly
But Brawl certainly gives it a run for its money in that category. Fewer people truly long for it, but there's a good bet that their want for Brawl is stronger (simply because they've waited twice as long)
I don't think Halo 3 will manage to capture the idyllic status in pop-culture that 2 did, either, simply because of the reduced install base
W. Chang @ Jun 19th 2007 6:37PM
What the hell is a Campaign meta game?
Mike @ Jun 19th 2007 7:13PM
W. Chang
A meta game would be a game beyond the regular game. In Rise of Nations the Risk style part from which you choose your moves would be a campaign meta game. The meta game handles the campaign while the regular rts battles affect the meta game.
Perhaps one's effectiveness during a mission scores points which could be used in some sort of meta game outside of the first person shooter itself.
Intriguing.
fli @ Jun 19th 2007 7:13PM
@ W.Chang i thought no one would ask that.. like u all knew or sumthing ... any takers ?
Mike @ Jun 19th 2007 7:16PM
Heh, I already did.
Mike @ Jun 19th 2007 7:18PM
I'll go on the record as saying that I don't think we will have control over the order of missions or anything that drastic. The meta game may have more to do with equipment or something like that.
fli @ Jun 19th 2007 8:13PM
oh sorry didnt see u there.
fli @ Jun 19th 2007 8:15PM
#####The Holo 3 ad campaign is going to blow ur mind####
DWells55 @ Jun 20th 2007 3:21AM
I don't understand the strong emphasis on FFA. A lot of us really prefer team games then a bunch of people we don't know.
Tuculitozacallama @ Jun 20th 2007 8:32AM
The most anticipated game of the year...?
"!HECK WHEN CRYSIS COMES OUT IT WILL CRUSH HALO 3"

6. That's twice in a couple of posts - are you guys paid to say that Halo is the biggest title of the year? Cause millions of Pokemon and Marios might beg to differ.
They might but who cares? Uh When your in the Guiness Book of World records for most money made on the first day of release I think you can say you have the biggest game of the year..Just my thoughts though sorry.
