Even though some of us have
played Boogie, the title continues to confuse others. Today's video pick is the first time it made sense for this writer: instead of a dancing-and-singing game, it's a game where you control a dancing-and-singing puppet. Finally, the lack of direct correlation between controllers and avatars -- like left controller for left arm -- makes sense.
It's still too early to predict
Boogie's success, but at least we finally understand the basics. And it took us long enough -- the title is close to shipping, with an August 9, 2007 release. See the video after the break.

I still don't get it...
Vince @ Jun 19th 2007 12:24AM
I wasn't interested in this game until just now. As of this instant i vow to buy it on launch day.
Adam @ Jun 19th 2007 12:27AM
what is that pink guy supposed to be? some sort of squid? regardless of what he is, the game looks to be interesting enough for a try.
That Fuzzy Bastard @ Jun 19th 2007 12:32AM
Oh god... please be as awesome as the trailers... oh please...
atg @ Jun 19th 2007 12:31AM
do the songs theyve chosen annoy anyone else?? Maybe its just me, but who does this music appeal to?
BPM @ Jun 19th 2007 12:56AM
Adam, my guess is... The Boogie Man. :P
And, uh, wow. An EA game that actually has some unique style.
wukong @ Jun 19th 2007 12:58AM
I'm with you Vince. Video completely got me interested and some faith in EA as well.
jman @ Jun 19th 2007 1:02AM

@ Vince and wukong
Same here, I didn't give a crap about this game, but now I do.
Martez @ Jun 19th 2007 1:06AM
If you can just free-form "boogie" with the controllers like the video suggests, that's awesome. Or do you have to do specific motions to "win" a song?
claytablet @ Jun 19th 2007 1:07AM
so how the hell do you hold both controllers and a microphone?
Martez @ Jun 19th 2007 1:14AM
Clay, I think there are two different "modes" in the game.
Rubang B @ Jun 19th 2007 1:14AM
This video had the opposite effect on me. I thought I got it, but now I know I don't. I'm still going to try it because I love karaoke, but where does the mic go?
Rubang B @ Jun 19th 2007 1:15AM
Aha, but is there no sing-and-dance mode?
Rock_My_Socks @ Jun 19th 2007 11:43AM
Wait, if that's how you control your "puppets" then what's the point of having a microphone?
ronaldraygun @ Jun 19th 2007 1:29AM
no one puts baby in the corner!
Covarr @ Jun 19th 2007 2:32AM
"so how the hell do you hold both controllers and a microphone?"
You clearly need to grow a third arm. Fortunately, everybody with an N64 has already done that, even though it turned out that no N64 game actually used all three handles at once.
thewiicast @ Jun 19th 2007 3:25AM
There's a bunch of different modes to the game. Singing only, Dancing only, music video creation mode (you record your voice in karaoke mode then edit a music video using the recorded moves and sounds from the other modes.) where you control the lights/camera etc. plus you'll be able to swap videos you've made with people online. I cant WAIT for this game!
GoonieGooGoo @ Jun 19th 2007 4:26AM
Anyone else shocked that an Original and Unusual IP is coming from EA?
I'm buying it!!
Tron Knotts @ Jun 20th 2007 10:02AM
I don't trust this vid. I've seen footage of people actually palying the game, and it was nothing like this vid suggests.
I saw a guy beat a "level" just by swinging the remote back and forth like a baton. It wasn't like a dancing puppet sim, it was like a conducter sim.
Even though I love the graphics, and generally love rhythm games (Rhythm Tengoku maybe being my faviorate) after seeing actually gameplay my interest in this game dropped to near zero.
Grey @ Jun 19th 2007 8:26AM
you guys must realise this is the first game of its kind, and it came from EA!!! the nubs that constantly make ww2 games hehe
it must be worth a try, besides look fun as hell for partys n shit
Jonathan Tran @ Jun 19th 2007 12:25PM
I also thought I understood how this game worked. Except now I don't. It still looks like it could be fun.
But yeah, Innovation from EA? What's next, will Atari have a new system, with Duke Nukem Forever as a launch title?
mocax @ Jun 19th 2007 9:19AM
Clip-on wireless microphone?
Paul @ Jun 19th 2007 9:56AM
It's not, they showed it and it's just a USB mic so I guess no sing + dance mode except maybe in co-op?!
arrrgh @ Jun 19th 2007 10:00AM
Well I just hope there is a mode where you get to dance and sing, thatd be pretty decent. Video creation sounds pretty wild too :)
Anam @ Jun 19th 2007 10:03AM
This looks so awesome. And I said I'd never buy another game by EA...
Jonathan Tran @ Jun 19th 2007 10:06AM
maybe it will also come with a 4 foot microphone stand, which will... fold... to fit in ... a DVD case.
Nate @ Jun 19th 2007 9:06PM
You guys should know better. EA isn't all that bad. They're working on building a new reputation and Boogie is part of the spearhead of new games they're working on.
BTW, this specific title is developed by EA Montreal, which is the same studio working on Army of Two. I do think they are doing a good job so far on creating new IPs. Do not confuse them with the studios using IPs such as The Sims, C&C, MoH, etc...
d.l.l @ Jun 21st 2007 1:10PM
UMMM, I'd rather play samba de amigo... plz bring to wii
Matthew @ Jun 19th 2007 11:53AM
@Anam
Might want to change that to "I'll never buy another derivative sequel by EA"
Encourage them to keep churning out the original IPs, heaven knows they can afford it.
Aprime1 @ Jun 19th 2007 3:24PM
Gametrailers has been slow for the past few days.
:\
Kind of gay, considering it's a mass-download site.
Blue_Falcon @ Jun 19th 2007 4:36PM
So, what the track listing going to be like for this game?
And I'm slightly meh'd by the fact that with all the music EA goes through all their other games that they didn't get the master track for the song used in this trailer.
Still pretty excited for this, though.
jonobq @ Jun 23rd 2007 11:08PM
so the singing, dancing and creating are all separate? or you create for dancing and singing? but you dont sing and dance?
Tim @ Jun 24th 2007 9:26AM
What's with the one human mixed in with apparently an entire world full of some sort of spiky-haired creatures? That girl sticks out like a sore thumb, and seems to only exist to draw in female market dollars.
Not to mention, as the Uncanny Valley always shows us, those creatures look a whole lot better in cell-shading than the girl does.
