D3 Publisher announces Dragon Blade, Wii-exclusive hack 'n slash
D3 Publisher of America, publishers of the popular Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords, have just announced the Wii-exclusive Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire, a third-person action adventure in which players take the role of a magically-imbued dragon.According to Gamasutra, the game will be heavy on the motion controls, allowing players to control the dragon's movement and powers through a unique "two-handed" control configuration. The title is an arcade-style hack 'n slash, according to D3 PA VP & COO (OMG! BFF TTYL) Yoji Takenaka, and will feature an original story by Richard A. Knaak, best known for the DragonLance series, as well as a number of Diablo and Warcraft novels.
Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire will be released sometime in the fall. Check out the trailer embedded after the break (thanks, Enycma).

"Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire will be released sometime in the fall."
Cash-in Confirmed.
=)

Any kind of "unique" control scheme is good news in my books. I don't know if it'll work, but I want to see developers experimenting until the potential of the system is really unlocked.
And it's good to see at least one game not involving Mario being planned for the Wii.

Ill bet you swing your arms like a sord.

This is relevant to my interests.
Crono @ Jun 21st 2007 4:52PM
This game looks wicked cool, especially the whip power-up. As always, the proof is in the pudding.
"Cash-in Confirmed."
Thats assuming this game wasn't in development since TGS when the wiimote was unveiled. You know what else is coming out this fall? Metroid Prime 3. "Cash-in Confirmed!"
Eggman @ Jun 21st 2007 4:54PM
You guys fail to mention that this is being developed by the makers of Panzer Dragoon, which makes it jump to near the top of my list.
Enycma @ Jun 21st 2007 5:04PM
There is a trailer for it on IGN.
Don't look so bad at all...

"Thats assuming this game wasn't in development since TGS when the wiimote was unveiled."
And not a peep at the Nintendo Media Summit?
Your right though this could have been in dev for a while but the smart money is on it not having been.
Today is the first day of summer therefore this game will be released between 3 and 6 months. Seems very abrupt to me.
Paviel @ Jun 21st 2007 5:03PM
A 3rd party game that doesn't suck HAS to be good for Nintendo.
Please, Dragon Blade... Please don't suck...
Syko360 @ Jun 21st 2007 5:14PM
I sense an AO rating coming. Hack and Slash ?!! What's Thompson's number?

This actually sounds pretty cool.
Farseer @ Jun 21st 2007 5:23PM
Because you are hacking and slashing, making the motions, it is much more emmersive than with other systems. You are actually acting out killing someone!
This game totally deserves an AO in the states and a ban in Europe. No one is mature enough for something like this. Period.
Jenova @ Jun 21st 2007 5:28PM
360 pwnz j00!

zwarrior @ Jun 21st 2007 5:33PM
Yeah it looks great, but releasing it in fall is shooting oneself in the foot, afterall that's when the Nintendo Big 3 are coming out, not the forget Halo.
MAL @ Jun 21st 2007 5:38PM
At # 4. Truth be told, the Wii is an unstoppable power house right now that everyone is trying to scramble to get with or are trying to imitate to get a piece of the new casual gamer market that Nintendo has discovered.
And is it me or does this game remind anyone else of God of War.
Tathar @ Jun 21st 2007 6:07PM
What part of the trailer has the player taking the role of a dragon? I'm not seeing one.
Stephen @ Jun 21st 2007 6:10PM
A hack and slash on the Wii sounds like more trouble than it's worth.
Mr Khan @ Jun 21st 2007 6:25PM
I would be interested to see whether this game surpasses Soul Calibur Legends
L @ Jun 21st 2007 7:29PM
Hack-n-slash? Don't they realize the arcade days are dead? I want a all around great gaming experience, not a button mashing walkathon of slicing and dicing.
Some Dude @ Jun 21st 2007 10:56PM
Looks sick, will on a lookout for this one!
2ez @ Jun 21st 2007 7:42PM
So you want less game in your games? Go watch a fucking movie.
Brandon Johnson @ Jun 21st 2007 7:53PM
@23
Tell that to God of War which this game reminds me of a little.
Rubang B @ Jun 21st 2007 8:23PM
They made Puzzle Quest. They can do no wrong. I will have this game.
And I don't think you ever become a dragon. I think your weapons is the Dragon Blade, which seems to have dragon magic, which allows it to act as a fire sword, fire whip, giant fire hands, all that crap. Dragon magic kicks ass. If you ever need any, I totally know a guy...
BPM @ Jun 21st 2007 8:43PM
Rubang, Infinite Interactive MADE Puzzle Quest. D3 is just the publisher. And publishers can do wrong. Depends on what developers they work with.
Grog @ Jun 21st 2007 8:50PM
I'm pretty sure this game isn't being developed in the 3-6 months left before its release considering we have a gameplay video of it...
Rubang B @ Jun 21st 2007 9:41PM
Oops! Thanks BPM. Well, this game looks kinda neat, but now I no longer care. Must play Puzzle Quest...
bm @ Jun 21st 2007 10:05PM
For a moment there I read "Breath of Fire" and I'm all YAAAAY and then I read the article and I'm all NOOOOOOO
Liraco @ Jun 22nd 2007 9:04AM
About time a 3ed party made an interesting game ONLY for the Wii. Time to see what non-tacked-on controls feel like (unless they can't pull off motion controls properly which would be a shame.)
The concept looks awesome, the game looks nice, can't wait!
