Doritos wants YOU to design their XBLA game
Doritos and video games don't normally go hand-in-hand, especially when the chips make your hands all greasy and stain the controllers. Nevertheless, Doritos is attempting to change that image with their Unlock Xbox contest, which will give snack-fans the opportunity to turn their video game concepts into actual, factual Xbox Live Arcade titles.
Would-be designers can submit their game ideas online at the contest's official website, along with additional pictures, video, and sound files to really drive the pitch home. All submitted ideas can be voted on by visitors to the site, with the top five designs being developed by XBLA teams, and then placed online for voting to determine the grand prize winner. The top design gets turned into an XBLA title, and will be available for free on the digital download service.
What's the catch? Well, the concepts have to be themed around the Doritos brand. That narrows down the possibilities a bit, but constraint is the mother of innovation. And there ARE a wide range of Doritos products, right?

I wonder how many games are going to be based off that one Doritos ad with the two flavors battling in a ring

I think it's bull that the contest is only open to Americans. We Canadians would love to try our hand at this but we can't because of geography

Salsa Shark attack... I can imagine it already, kick ass.

Lijik:
I would totally play that.

Boo-fucking-hoo.

Fantastic.
It's about time the two root causes of childhood obesity engaged in a little 'synergy'.

They should have a game where you gobble bags of Doritos until you "win" by dying of heart disease.
Mr Khan @ Jun 21st 2007 7:20PM
With a little photoshopping, i could have 2 in the next hour
Flavometry Wars! The struggle of a single dorito chip against the oppression of other, wimpier snack foods
and
Tortillasteroids! You are A single; forlorn dorito chip sitting in the middle of a city park. Defend yourself against the evil hordes of picnic ants and sundry vermin attempting to eat you!

I have a great puzzler idea that I will definitely submit... but it involves fattening up characters with Doritos, and I'm not sure they want that on their product...

"The Man With Orange Hands" - a horror title!

A Dorito that shoots Doritos at other Doritos. The winner on the leaderboards each week gets a free bag mailed to them. Quick and dirty.

Since Doritos are made in Mexico, I want them to make a game about the surprise attack against the USA(from within and the border) and the attempt to reconstruct Aztlan.

@ Mr Khan (#7):
Oh my god. I would actually play those :D.

I'm tired of all the dang advertising with doritos and mcdonalds, not to mention all the other ones that I cant remember because there have been so many! I'm talking about on Xbox Live, why would I pay 50 a year, for a the great stuff I get, plus advertising, if theres gonna be advertising, let it not be for the major food companies that make people fat, but for games!!!!
I like how they make ads for the new game content, and thats how it should be, not doritos or mcdonalds plastering their ads everywhere on my xbox live, which i pay for.
Simply, if major food companies, or let alone anyone that doesn't make games, put advertisements onto my console, let xbox live be free.

The H.U.D would have an obesity bar, a heart disease bar,a migraineometer and a mini-stroke/seizure meter. You would have to avoid the disgusting monosodium glutomate excitotoxins that can damage the eaters nervous system. MSG in Doritos can cause migraine and seizures and can damage the endocrine system and cause obesity by causing chemically impaired appetite control. The excitotoxins contained in doritos kill our neurons- it causes them to burn out of energy and die. The so called "natural" doritos contain yeast extract which apparently is a disguised form of MSG and is as natural as saying crack cocaine is natural because it originates from the coca plant. I think there is great scope for an XBLA game here. It would definitely involve destroying these vile tasting, harmful, pointy, toxic chemical chips and their disturbing side effects. Perhaps it could be a geometry wars rip off where you have to blast this old fashioned junk food back into the last century when we were nutritionally unaware. Perhaps you could play as Dr. Russell Blaylock, who is a doctor, author, and expert on chemicals that damage the nervous system from whom I extracted this information.

Make the Burger King run around and eat Doritos. That would be a great game.

My idea:
An excuse to release manhunt 2. Its exactly the same, except instead of starting at a mental hospital, your start out in a doritos factory.
-or-
Doritotris: tetris, except the board is triangular, and every shape is the exact same: a triangle.
ssuk @ Jun 22nd 2007 11:22AM
Shouldn't have restricted it to the Doritos brand, that way if someone comes up with the most awesome game idea ever, the Doritos logo is stamped on it rather than making a lower-than-sub-par game which revolves around some sub-par crisp brand. Lol execs in suits thinking they know best. Lol at me thinking I know best, choose your side!

I tried the Doritos mystery flavor chips this weekend. X-13D. I got it right away. They are pretty tasty. CHEESEBURGER!
