GameFly East Coast distribution center adds states
When GameFly's East Coast distribution center opened last month it was apparently still working out the kinks in the system. Readers pointed out that not all the states on the East Coast were served. GameFly sent us an updated list of states served by the new center (full list of states after the break). As time goes on we can probably expect to see a couple more states added to the list.As GameFly told us before, the Pittsburgh, PA center is intended to "serve East Coast and midwest members." We've noticed a significant reduction in turnaround time compared to the week and a half that used to plague East Coast members and have been able to better order the queue since the availability listings were made clearer. Less than a week turnaround time is the mark and it looks like GameFly is on the path.
Update: GameFly contacted Joystiq and said NY will be added to the states serviced by the East Coast center. A GameFly representative says, "NY will be added to PA [distribution center] in the next 4-6 weeks. As we've mentioned previously, we would be adding states as soon as we had the inventory and operational capacity to do so."
Full list of states served by the East Coast center:
Connecticut, Washington DC, Delaware, Illinois (NEW), Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts (NEW), Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, New Hampshire (NEW), New Jersey (NEW), Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont (NEW) and West Virginia

What kind of bs is that.. How are you gonna have service to New Jersey then Rhode Island then skip NY
jman @ Jun 21st 2007 5:09PM
@ Kris...I wouldnt worry bout it gamefly isnt that good anyway...they have a good selection and all it just takes way to long to get a game u want...
Jess @ Jun 21st 2007 5:25PM
Ummmm Jman, I think your missing the whole point of them opening a new east coast distribution center. To reduce the time it takes.
I too think it's stupid not to include New York(where I live), but their distribution center is probably too small to handle the large population.
kiwi @ Jun 21st 2007 5:22PM
How do they leave out New York, when it's BETWEEN the distribution center and Mass, Conn, VT, and NH?
Matt @ Jun 22nd 2007 8:48AM
Since they have added IL to the PA shipping center my ship time has gone down to about a 3 day turn around. Totally worth, plus you can keep games for 2/3 the cost of a new, so it pays for itself just in that fact. Gamefly ftw!
Tim Dorr @ Jun 21st 2007 5:26PM
@jman
That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. The whole reason why Gamefly takes so long to get games to people is what this article is about. Did you not realize where you were posting or something?
a.j. @ Jun 21st 2007 5:26PM
@3...why do you think he's pissed about it not servicing New York then? if they served NY from the new center, then it wouldn't take long. jeezus.
a.j. @ Jun 21st 2007 5:28PM
anyway, in answer to #1 (I live in NYC too), I'm guessing they don't want to completely overload the new center right off the bat. You gotta figure NY is a huge amount of orders per day. Probably letting the new center get their feet wet first before they slam em.
Brownsock9835 @ Jun 21st 2007 5:32PM
everytime i get a freaking game it takes a week and comes form inglewood cali no matter what game i get whether its new or old, its bull crap i hate gamefly and how slow they are im in PA so im right next door to tihs new place but they still all come from cali
doomcloud @ Jun 21st 2007 9:40PM
im so glad i ditched those ass faces, when i first heard about the east coast distro i thought i may have acted hastily. sweet vindication.
SynGamer @ Jun 21st 2007 5:58PM
I live in NY and have e-mailed GF repeatedly complaining that it takes roughly 6-9 days from returning my game to receiving the next in queue...its BS. And they still haven't added NY!
Mr Khan @ Jun 21st 2007 6:00PM
The only reason i wouldn't see the East Coast center getting 1/2 the country is because the West Coast center would be well-established and able to handle a bigger workload
In a logical world, the east coast center would be bigger, because continental America's population center is still slightly east of the Mississippi (near Peoria)
Rubix42 @ Jun 21st 2007 6:04PM
It's just a matter of time until they open a center in NY. My thought is they get a vast majority of their business from the one state, and want to eventually be able to do turnaround times.
At least they care and want to make it better.
Kris @ Jun 21st 2007 6:06PM
My problem is this.. Lets say your on that one game plan. You play it for a week then you return it the 8th day. My next game wont come till about the 13th-16th day of the month. If you repeat that cycle half of the month you don't even have a game. If you live near these distribution centers lucky you but nyc anyway it sucks. Your paying the same amount as everyone else but the service depends on where you live so thats sucks.
Bdub? @ Jun 21st 2007 6:15PM
I had gamefly back in January, and the games only took about 3 days to get to me. I'm in North Carolina.
theevilnarwhale @ Jun 21st 2007 8:58PM
How could they leave out florida? Theres a two week turn around for shipping games back.
Oew @ Jun 21st 2007 6:15PM
Man, how could they leave out NY again? The only reason I signed up for their stupid service for jerks is 'caused I made the assumption that an East Coast service center must serve some sort of pseudo-important state like New York. Those bastards.
Dantarion @ Jun 21st 2007 6:20PM
When you assume...
jman @ Jun 21st 2007 6:50PM
Oh...wow i feel dumb now....i thought they were just OFFERRING it to new ppl thats what i read...didnt read the rest...my bad
Brad @ Jun 21st 2007 7:38PM
I think I had higher expectations for gamefly, which is why I'm a little dissapointed with the turn around time.
It only takes 2 days shipping one way (i'm in Ohio), but double that, add in weekends, and delays in processing and it can add up.
For example, I put a game in the mail last thursday morning and I won't get my next game until next monday, which is a 12 day turn around time.
Also, I'm convinced that if you have a game that's 100% in stock they'll ship it even if it's at the bottom of your queue. My queue has had 5-6 games at medium availablity and they've always sent me the game at the bottom. I'm complaining I know, but I just hoped with 6 games at 50% availablity, at least ONE of them would be in.
karmaghost @ Jun 21st 2007 8:42PM
I live 2 1/2 hours away from Pittsburgh and it still takes about a week to get the next game in my queue. I'm in my first trial/month, but I'm gunna quite after this performance (or lack thereof).
saboola @ Jun 22nd 2007 7:56AM
Agreed about Florida. This is stupid. Going to take the state that is practically further from the California center, and pretty much leave it that way. I think I might cancel this stupid service.
Jess @ Jun 22nd 2007 9:53AM
I'm really glad to hear Gamefly working on this issue. I'm sure FL & NY and others will be added once they get things going. Point is, they're working on improving ship times, and they still have the best damn game selection out there.
I'm in Jersey and shipping speeds have definitely improved, sent a wii game back monday and got a new one thursday, this is how it should be.
Rory @ Jun 22nd 2007 10:29AM
Okay, wait a minute... isn't this good news? They say they're adding New York (quite possibily one of their largest markets) in 4-6 weeks. The distribution center is new and it would seem the details are being sorted out. I love how everyone just assumes they know how to run a business like this. Obviously there's more to it than meets the eye. I don't know, call me crazy but it sounds like they're committed to improving the service. I'm not getting all the haters. This is good news people. I'm stoked.
longhairbilly @ Jun 22nd 2007 2:50PM
While I'm upset NY still NOT using the East coast center. I'm happy they mention it's coming. I have had Gamefly almost 2 years now. If I put up with long turn around times this long, I can hang six more weeks. And, to be honest. I have noticed a huge difference in shipping times as of late.
al proco @ Jun 25th 2007 5:13PM
try gameznflix......
with 9 distribution centers, game/movie delivery will be quicker than gamefly (only 2 dc)...
and gameznflix is much cheaper.....
but, admittedly....gameznflix has their flaws also (like all online rental companies).....
INVENTORY..... but they are working on it.....i usually get their movies/games that they have in stock within 4/5 days (round trip)

I've tried gamesnflix but went back to gamefly. if i want movies i use netflix. if i want games i use gamefly. they just have the best selection simple. shipping times have been 3 days pretty consistently.
