Whoops, sorry! Thanks for the catch. I forgot that it was PGR 3 with the great in-car camera. Article has been updated appropriately. :D

So you have to pay for two games to get those features or you can get one awesome game. I only care about damage though, I have too much difficulty racing inside the cars.

GT:HD is the best looking PS3 game and its only a demo. I bet the next GT will look even better than the demo.

Anyone got a release date?

Awesome. In GT4 it has the car I actually own, Hyundai Accent (actually the GT4 version was the rally version) so this would be cool. (If they keep it in the game) So ill feel at home in GT5. I hope Sony makes their own PS3 wheel like the 360 did.

Forza 2 looks awesome! It almost made me decide to buy a second hand 360 just for that game...

Test Drive Unlimited was very nice too, played it for a couple hours at a friend and it would be nice if they ever release it on PS3.

well im glad the 360 games are giving PS3 games a run for their money. Forza 2 is tons of fun but GT looks way better. well time will tell, MS still has to unveil PGR4 properly.
either way its good to see competition like this, we're the ones who end up playing kick-ass games that way....

@9 matjet

my point is the first comment guy made it sound like he was bragging like ur racing game for the 360 doesn't have a in car view and i was saying well 360 has another racing game with an in car view and 360 has a racing wheel

Haha - Forza 2 damage modelling is terrible. I certainly wouldn't mention it as a game feature. Got symmetrical dents? Check.

I grabbed the demo and the crappy damage made it feel like I was driving a PC arcade racer from 5 years ago.

GG - won't be buying it. Bring on GT5.

When is this game suppose to come out anyway? I never use the in-car view. I think it is cool on occasion, but not for racing. I like to sit on the hood and race.

Now... the next question... will it have force feedback? Personally in this day and age I cannot imagine a racing game without force feedback.

In car views are better when you have a racing wheel in front of you but the PS3 doesn't have one yet and I agree Josh I don't think they have said the cars in GT5 have damage and forza 2 has great customization which GT series doesn't have that much customization.

I'm glad to hear that Polyphony is finally going a step further. How 'bout a little mud on my Lancer's windshield during a rally race too? R3 for wipers? Yeah, that's asking too much of them... It's taken almost 10 years to get some damage up in here.

jason is such a shitty poster. First of all, the PS3 does have racing wheels, considering it supports all the Logitech wheels that have been released, from the Driving Force Pro (comparable to the 360 racing wheel) to the G25 (expensive but completely awesome wheel..has dual force feedback motors) For a system that supposedly advocates choice, it's interesting why there are no other wheels on the 360. Oh wait, it's because Microsoft uses proprietary protocols for controllers that no one else can use without permission from Microsoft. Imagine that.

I'm not even going to bother commenting on the rest of your uninformed comment, considering you're comparing a released game with one you know nothing about that isn't even out yet.

Mods, ban that troll.

@DarkJC

I agree with you 100%. You can use any usb wheel. However, I just hope that this game supports force feedback. The wheel you use may have force feedback motors, but the wheel does not know when you are off the track or run into a wall. The game has to send the signal to the controller.

Also, Without a first party controller available the developers may not provide support for those features in order to cut cost or meet a deadline. This is the same reason why games currently do not send a force feedback signal. Since the first party controller does not support it there is no need for the developers to even bother to allocate time to develop for that technology.

@DarkJC

Theres NO force feedback its not built in the game just like shadowhawk said but 360's wheel is wireless and has force feedback which is great and it does suck 360 doesn't support any other wheels but PS3 doesn't have force feedback or new racing wheels.

With the rumble controller copyright issues behind us, don't you think by the fall Sony will be supporting force feedback in games? Of all the game developers, I wouldn't peg polyphony as one to leave out small features to save time. Their track record (hah!) seems to prove their dedication to providing as excellent a racing experience as possible.

Keep youself informed about Gran Turismo you pro-360 moron. GT4 had WAY more cars than forza 2 can have now
and i do not doubt that GT5 will have more. As for the graphics, compare forza 2 with GT HD concept and tell me if it still can beat a GT5 in it's beta version. Finally, stop bothering us with you damn steering weel, Can't you see nobody cares?

I like in-car views, but not constantly. They were not done very well in Unlimited, as it obscured so much. It was a little better in PGR.

I also don't like the frame-drop and loss of control resolution that seems to occur as the machine is trying to 'mask' the dashboard from the road.

I like in-car views, to switch to when I know I'm ahead, or I'm running an easy race, and I can feel better what it's like to be in this particular car.

In the future, there will probably be some sort of morphing/magnify device which will allow different versions of in-car views. In 16:9 format, it's not as bad as 3:4 (where I played Unlimited, on a ps2, granted-- as I said, PGR was better, and didn't have the pronounced framedrop which seems to come with masking).

I still remember one of my most influential in-car arcade experiences, which was playing Hard Drivin' or Stunt Drivin'-- the view was in-car, but it didn't take up too much real-estate, and the dash bounced when you hit bumps, it was the perfect in-car view.

Following that would be the in-car view of Test Drive II, for the Commodore 64. Sick, I know. But you got to see the dash of every car and it didn't obscure game vision (there was no a-pillar, or whatever that thing is, that NASCAR and the like have running down at an angle on their in-car views.

Or maybe we could make this pillar transparent, to our own settings...

You know, basic setting of opacity, you can choose how much of this obstruction you want to have, and still have the dash in front of you.

The thing that's cool about dashes is, they're so different. When you're in a Lotus, the dash looks totally different from that of some American or Japanese car.

The damage in Forza2 is a joke, you can run into a wall at 40mph+ and only get superficial damage when we've all seen the crash dummy tests running into a wall at 30mph and the car is totalled.

I wouldn't expect the greatest damage from GT5, but it should at least be on a level with the goofy damage of Forza2, for competition reasons.

I do not think that Polyphony Digital will implement aesthetic customization (4,000 layers?) to the degree that they did in Forza2.

But if they let us paste a jpeg to our car and make it as deep as Midnight Club Dub III, this would be more than enough.

They'll also have to wrestle with a possible "no damage" mode, so they'll have to have two AI algorithms, to put it simply.

One that assumes no damage, and one that does.

This is a tremendous amount of work.

I hope these people are getting paid well for their passion.

I share that passion, which they breathed into GT4. Rather than buy an XBOX360 that might break in a few months, to play Forza2, I'm going to go buy GT4 (again-- I used to sell videogames for beer money) and that peripheral to import my ps2 saves-- and play gt4, upscaled, some of the best programming I've seen on the ps2 to date.

"If it were 100% realistic, the game would kill you with an electric shock if you crashed over 80mph. ;-)"

If you could implement something like that for blog comments - say, if the level of stupid in a post surpasses 80% - you might have a winner.

I am real happy to hear bout the in car view n also surprised. that has to be a lot of work to have in car views for more than 700 cars, unless they drop that number which would be a shame. I think though that they should increase there tunning section to allow for swaps and the purchasing of brand name tuner products, jus like forza. Cant wait for this game.
