MotorStorm update, PS1 games added to PlayStation Store
It's just as well that there isn't some sort of Time Attack mode for programmers and engineers, as the fellows working on MotorStorm's latest update have encountered a few setbacks since its original May release target. Those have since been overcome, however, and the PlayStation 3's unashamedly grimy racer can now enjoy the Time Attack mode (oddly absent from the original release) complete with online leader boards and shareable ghosts. If you're keen on sending ethereal vehicles to your mates, update the game to version 1.2 (this is important!), log onto the PlayStation Store and download the update. It's free, you know.
Other additions to the online store come in the form of two PlayStation games which you may have seen before they were spirited away -- Hot Shots Golf 2 and Cool Boarders. They're available now for $5.99 each and are playable on both the PS3 and PSP. If you purchased them back when they only worked on the PSP, you can re-download them at no extra cost.

I like how Sony releases these updates frequently and they are stellar and FREE. Unlike XBL!
I think the reason they didn't have this at launch, is they wanted to ship a not so finished game so people have SOMETHING to play on their ps3's. And then update for free.
Oh well atleast its something. I'm still waiting for that $100 price drop!!!!!
mastafool @ Jun 21st 2007 10:40PM
378 to go!
Spiza @ Jun 21st 2007 10:41PM
Sharing ghosts sounds cool. You can see how the best run the course.
mastafool @ Jun 21st 2007 10:43PM
BTW, there are free updates over Xbox Live. The Gears of War Annex mode, and two map pack were free.
Atleast over live you know you have to pay to play online.

This really should have been Hot Shots Golf and Coolboarders 2, not the other way around.
konajinx @ Jun 21st 2007 11:08PM
@1,
How is that update "stellar" excatly? Offering up a game mode that should have been in the game to begin with? That's not stellar, that's fixing stupid mistakes.
And Cool Boarders is worth about 99 cents top. I remember loathing that game immensely.
Cal @ Jun 21st 2007 11:28PM
@5,
I totally agree. Cool Boarders 2 > Cool Boarders and Hot Shots Golf > Hot Shots Golf 2. The price is quite appealing though, I mean, you can pay 10 bucks for a N64 game on the VC or 6 for a PS1 game on the PSN. Mind you, the N64 games are of more quality imo.
Strider2K99 @ Jun 21st 2007 11:38PM
To mastafool:
Xbox Live is $50 a year, so playing online isn't really "free."
Strider2K99 @ Jun 21st 2007 11:40PM
Oops, read it wrong. Never mind.

It wasn't a mistake, it was a developer running out of time. I don't know, maybe I'm too appreciative of continued support. Evolution seems to care enough about the game and its users to continue supporting the product. Yeah it should have been in the retail game, but it wasn't. Would you rather have Evolution move onto another project or would you enjoy their continued support and determination to complete their product?
Grive @ Jun 22nd 2007 12:53PM
Chainblast, continued support is great... it's just that, there is a difference between continued support of a complete game, and finishing the game months after you paid $60 for it. And let's not talk about the poor japanese players.
I wouldn't mind if they released more tracks or more cars or whatever. Even special gamemodes. But time attack? That should be basic stuff... very basic stuff that honestly should not take a long time to code.
ExMcloud @ Jun 22nd 2007 12:56AM

Uh No thats called a cop out cus we are lazy as hell..The game developement wise was pretty simple seeing how the game had more visible flaws than HD porn. So lets be serious...And for the people who dont know what I mean...
1.Level design was quite un-creative
2.The so called earth deformatioon which changed laps was a joke
3.And the AI was just set on aggressive mode..What real person just drives aggressively. They could have easily made the AI more realistic
T H @ Jun 22nd 2007 3:18AM
Now where is the R:FOM map pack update that was supposed to coincide with the Motorstorm update? grrrr...
Boss Tempo @ Jun 22nd 2007 8:11AM
The only thing funnier than someone using the word "stellar" in a sentance to describe Sony is the fact that there are still people who refuse to believe this console has one foot in the grave and the other foot on a bananna peel.
Danny @ Jun 22nd 2007 8:24AM
14: Actually, the only thing funnier than someone using the word "stellar" in a sentence (yes, that's sentEnce) to describe Sony is someone who loves their Xbox so much that all of a sudden, they're a top-level market analyst.
Boss Tempo @ Jun 22nd 2007 8:33AM
Danny,
Any time you want to compare college degrees, I'm open to that. Glad you like my post enough to comment. Hopefully some day I'll be as critical to your life as Sheppy is to half the morons who post here.
Thanks for biting.
Douchebag.

THANK YOU. I love how game companies are trying to update games with patches, and SONY is the one getting slammed for it. And then the xbox fanboys say things like "Wow, way to put out an unfinished product."
Do we really have to scratch the surface of xbox games that were rushed out just to recieve a patch the first time you pop in a game. Example: FORZA2. I bought that game first day it came out, put it in my 360, and wow, please update this game. Ooookay. If anything the 360 and its devs are the biggest offenders of this problem.
It feels like todays game devs are getting so lazy they just dont feel like finishing their game. Instead they tell themselves, "Well we could always patch it." Whatever happen to quality?
So back to subject on hand. Sony haters, knock it off. A dev company is trying to do something they promised and you all just take it out on Sony.
Matt B @ Jun 22nd 2007 8:38AM
Wow. A bunch of game developers on here today.
Anyways, In my update was the Warhawk public beta!!!!
Boss Tempo @ Jun 22nd 2007 8:45AM
Sounds like a few of you are still butt hurt about Ken getting fired. It will be ok guys. Seriously. I'm sure everything will pan out perfectly for you at E3 when they announce ALL those GAMES you've been promised. Mad Cats should probably release a Sony controller shaped like the xbox one since 80% of the games will come from us anyway.
mastershake100 @ Jun 22nd 2007 9:07AM
80% of games come from you ? pretty much proves you got your college degree either from city or heald LMAO
1. i didnt know you made xbox games
2. is that why you xbox fans are begging for ps3 games all the time ? MGS4, FF13, tekken, etc, etc.
3.more like 80% of your games come from PC where they are better with free online as well.
i love the smell of ownage in the morning, it smells like your ass just got burned.
Nik @ Jun 22nd 2007 9:08AM
You know as much as I love the Virtual Console and don't have a problem with what I pay for games on there, six bucks for a PS1 game makes 10 for an N64 game look like a ripoff.
sheppy @ Jun 22nd 2007 9:43AM

"Atleast over live you know you have to pay to play online.
*Waves at Tekken"
A not uncommon practice in Japanese culture. Shuffling out an additional $10 for online play isn't all that bad compared to how it's usually handled...

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-40-77-4-49-en-15-SNK-70-1xyi-43-3.html
But personally, as a guy who feels online destroys 90% of the fun in fighting games, I'll save $10, thank you. Then again, I never bought Dark Ressurection. So I'll save $30, thank you.
And if we want to talk about hidden costs... WHY HALLO DER, Lumines Live!
@Fatima
"I like how Sony releases these updates frequently and they are stellar and FREE. Unlike XBL!"
Umm, 360 games have had free updates as well. And I'm hardly call a time attack mode stellar. At least they don't force you into it unlike other racers... so I guess it's something, right?
@Matt B...
Later tonight, if you see a server named sheppy, try to get in. Just a little sidenote though, only sheppy will be me. If you get shot down by someone named sheppy with a number next to it (sheppy [2][3][4]), that's my friends.
Boss Tempo @ Jun 22nd 2007 10:33AM
Aww Mastershake...did I get you all butt hurt too? Poor thing...
"i didnt know you made xbox games"
- I dont make the games, but at least I have games to play on my console.
"is that why you xbox fans are begging for ps3 games all the time ? MGS4, FF13, tekken, etc, etc."
- Search my post archives. I've never once begged for any of this garbage. There's not a single PS game I give a rats ass about.
"more like 80% of your games come from PC where they are better with free online as well."
- Get a job, move out of your parents trailer park and then those 50 little bucks you keep crying about won't seem like such a mountain to you. Start with a good education though. Sounds like you could use one.
You couldn't own my ass if you dedicated your whole morning to responding to my posts. You couldn't even rent it with an option to buy it.
Sheppy - Did you make out ok on the new army sim contract? I made out damn good!
sheppy @ Jun 22nd 2007 10:53AM
@Boss Tempo
"Did you make out ok on the new army sim contract? I made out damn good!"
I don't really do military trainers at work. Well, we do but it's very rare. In fact, we're just recently getting into Helicopter Sims (which are much more fun because you get to throw a ton more detail in on the heli databases). So sadly, no. Year end bonus was damn nice last year though and I hope the same occurs this year (it'll be enough to buy a tablet PC with one fell swoop... if last year is an indicater). But other than that, most of my bonuses come from commissioned artwork during my freetime. That, and hopefully by January, my very own game will go live. Although all I'm expecting from that one, performance wise, is to finance that trilogy and a second project.
Boss Tempo @ Jun 22nd 2007 11:18AM
Awesome Shep.
I manage a small arms marksmanship simulation program for the DoD. If you can imagine firing real weapons powered by air compressors at a wall-sized video game screen - like an indoor shooting range - you basically get the idea of what types of "games" I work with. We do all the Tank and ground trainers too. Cool stuff and proof that video games really can save people's lives!
umm...hello?? @ Jun 22nd 2007 1:41PM
@1
MotorStorm is NOT a "finished" game. where's the splitscreen? why do I HAVE to go online to play with someone else? THAT would be a "stellar" patch. so until MS2 comes out with offline splitscreen, I'm not buying it.
You rave about how it's Sony's online service is free, yet you're too damn cheap to even OWN a PS3 yet (waiting for that $100 price drop)??? That's 2-4 years of XBL Gold right there (based on $400xbox360 vs. $600ps3)!
sheppy @ Jun 22nd 2007 2:50PM
