SEGA Rally Revo to feature deformable tracks, for real
SEGA Rally Revo for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 will feature tracks that deform throughout the course of a race, Sega announced in a press release today. The deformed surfaces will have an actual effect on the gameplay, as torn-up tracks will become more difficult to drive on. This differs from the purely-aesthetic deformation in Motorstorm, despite any early promises Sony might have made.
Examples of this "true deformation" are contours made through gravel in previous laps, which vehicles can move through to avoid being slowed down. Other factors, such as mud and dirt, will also be realistically altered through the course of a race, in a way which Sega is promising will change the genre of racing games. Like we haven't heard that one before...

sega racing games are good for arcade but they suck in consoles..
freaking full auto was a joke..
they should stick with sonic.. make some sonic paper 8, or sonic water world, sonic party 7..

IGN beat you to the deformable track info about a month or three ago. nice job. I guess IGN is good for something...

BulletToothTony,
Out Run 2006: Coast 2 Coast says hi. ^_^

I dunno, sounds exactly like Motorstorm to me. I can see 3D mud deformation in the tracks when I play, it changes the handling and speed, etc.

Deformable tracks did effect gameplay in motorstorm. The vehicles handled differently if you were on fresh ground or in the ruts made by other vehicles.

blah blah motorstorm blah blah. What a let down that game was. I love when companies promise something and execute it poorly, then another company comes along and does it right. For example, Oblivion is what Fable should have been.

Fable is a failed attempt at consolizing a wannabe of Morrowind, which Oblivion actually was, and hence sucked because. How somebody could suggest that Fable strived to do anything more than suck, and how Oblivion could've been said to do something positive requires a definite slap to the face in hopes of, but not limited to, permanent retardation.

@BulletToothTony: Funny, I seem to remember Saga Rally kicking ass on the Saturn. It pissed on the first Ridge Racer from a great hight. Maybe you're thinking of Daytona USA (one of the greatest coin-ops of all time and STILL is) because that had sloppy home ports. That or your another Sony fan-boy that can't get over the fact Motorstorm kinda sucked after all the hype, but I hope it's the former for once.

Did these guys even play Motorstorm? The deformation of the track has dramatic impact on your ability to race especially with the smaller vehicles. It's the one main advantage the larger vehicles have in the race. They can balance your speed early on by destroying the track and slowing you down drastically if you can find new ground to move across.

motorstorm did not do proper deformation, it "streams" the poly altered terrain at point of impact with the tires, but then beyond a tiny distance of around 1 meter, it is just (bump mapped, parallax mapped etc) texturing, it does however effect handling etc, but its just a case of short cuts, as they were unable to deliver sonys promises, as always.

@ Zach Braff is
I had a little difficulty reading your comment but I got that you think Fable was a bad game. While I enjoyed it for what it was it certainly didn't live up to the hype.
I was confused as to your opinion of Oblivion. You seem to be saying that you think it is also a bad game. Here I have to vehemently disagree with you. I believe Oblivion was a fantastic game and I continue to enjoy it on occasion a year after I got it. I know I am not alone in this opinion. I don't think I deserve a slap in the face for thinking so.

Dear Mr. Duckworth:
Oblivion is a shit game as is Fable. Fable didn't try to do anything because Fable didn't have a single innovation or decent gameplay accoutrement. Oblivion simply took Morrowind, cut off its testicles, and ran away to a simple crowd.
I'm happy you enjoy weak games, Mr. Duckworth, but I am not one of those weak game enjoyers.

You're an idiot, oblivion was an excellent game, you morrowwind fans need to get over the fact that bethesda changed alot of the game to make it more mainstream and enjoyable. Seeing as how it has sold so well and gotten so many awards, it's safe to say that it was an incredible game.
