i just don't see how downloadable PSN games would inspire the $200 added investment for the PS3's Blu-Ray drive.

@Digi Smalls

I don't see how you're expecting Bejeweled to validate a PC. It's a checkbox, not a focus.

i agree with you Sheppy. i was actually countering Joystiq's post this time.

"A break-out hit on PSN would help Sony maybe sell a few more PS3 units until they get their software act together."

Ah, okay.

Personally, I like the XLA and PSN store downloadable titles. Frankly, I have a hard time saying no to a $10 game.

It may not be a strong selling point, but a few good PSN titles could be the straw that'll break the camel's back... or this case, the bank account.

Funny, that's how I feel about buying an Elite with wifi...

PSN compliments the PS3 nicely. No added fees for demos or online play, no dual class (silver & gold) like m$ live service. I think the PSN model will definatley win out over gamers and developers. Sure PSN is still maturing so give it time. In 3 months I doubt further comparison to live will be even practical or possible once Home, PSN user created content and downloadable movies & music arrive.

heh, even that is cheaper then a PS3 mccomber. but you know, you can play those games just fine for $400. in fact, you could play them with a Core and a memory card for even less..

Since Geometry Wars sold more than a few 360's I don't see why a breakout PSN title can't help PS3.

"Funny, that's how I feel about buying an Elite with wifi..."

I'm not sure what's so funny about that, clearly most consumers feel that way. $600 is too much to spend for a console, whether it's a PS3 or an Elite w/Wifi.

I ended up going with the $400 option, and I'm feeling a little bit raped for having to spend an extra $60 on the extended warranty to protect the investment.

Right, since a downloadable $10 game can clearly sell a $400 console but has no chance of selling a $600 one.

I hope Sony can check off that 380 games goal, by next year...

i don't even quite believe your first statement about geo wars (as awesome as it was) 'pushing' 360 sales, much much much less some unnamed $10 title pushing $600 PS3s...

Hmm, interesting you didn't bring that up when you're making the $200 argument. But okay. So in your opinion, Geometry Wars didn't even convince 1 person to buy a 360? If that game never came out, everyone that has bought a 360 still would have bought one?

yes, but not a big enough number to significantly register on sales. and that number would be even smaller for the extra $200 bar of entry with the PS3.

So why does MS even bother getting content for XBLA since apparently none of them can sell enough 360's to "significantly register on sales"?

because it's extra money from all those who bought a 360 for its retail games. you can stop it now.

So in your view only disc-based games push a system's sales and downloadable content is purely a software revenue source? Well that's certainly an interesting take.

And stop what? Commenting?

So am I also correct in assuming that since VF5 is a PSN title it didn't help sell any single PS3, in your mind?

Honest question.

wasn't sure if you were just dragging out the argument. yes, i believe most network games are bonus money from the install base, and not true hardware drivers.

and you mean Tekken5 not VF5. no, i don't think that game in particular pushed many PS3s because it was essentially an uprezzed version of an already released PS2/PSP title.

WarHawk and Socom have a much higher chance of pushing hardware than Tekken, but since neither take advantage of the PS3's Blu-Ray drive, i don't know how the value of the PS3's $200 premium will seem to consumers.

remember, most gamers aren't even online.

The fact is, there are different titles that attract gamers to a system, be it the AAA games, or the not so big games. Wii sports made many people want the Wii, and although the 250 price did not hurt, the game itself is what got their attention. For many, that one game is Halo, for others it may be the variety of low cost original games on the PSN. I have friends that are Guitar Hero junlies that bought a system just for that one game, 90 bucks and all. i for one am all for the downloadablr games as long as the price is okay. The hardware cost is high, but at 60 bucks for a reg game, the initial investment of hardware is nothing compared to what you pay by the time you buy 4-5 games.

I think it's great for all the console makers to develop different types and 'levels' of games. You can get great gameplay for less money in these situations.

But...doesn't this sorta shift a bit to Nintendo's advantage, in that they can do the exact same thing (come out with cool $10 games), that will look the same on any platform (but the Wii's much cheaper.)

If all 3 console makers come up with some downloadable games that can sell systems, I think Nintendo can sell the most systems since their console is cheaper. It's not bad for Sony or MS, just another opportunity for Nintendo.

"heh, even that is cheaper then a PS3 mccomber. but you know, you can play those games just fine for $400. in fact, you could play them with a Core and a memory card for even less.."

Not by much though... what, $20? I guess it does include that hdmi cable that would cost me about $10 shipped from monoprice.com though, so make it a $30 difference.
Just playing the tired "by the time you add it up" argument. But, that's part of why I went ps3 first; the bigger picture added up more nicely with that route. I can't believe you even brought up the idea of a core though; that's just crazy talk.

I want HDMI because that's where we seem to be headed with electronics hookups, and I want wifi because my router is nowhere near my TV, and that makes it the only way I'm going to get a console online. I also want a HD, and the 120gb HD is icing. I won't even bring up rechargeable battery packs and cables.
Basically, for the system and capabilities I want I need an Elite, with wifi adapter. $579.98 MSRP.

ok um, Steak, even if it did come out on Blu-Ray, which i'm pretty sure it doesn't, the games won't even fill a DVD. thats why its downloadable.

and it's "you're retarded" not "your". i'm usually lax on internet spelling, but that one was special. much like yourself.

@23 - Eh didn't mean to. I agree about Warhawk and SOCOM although I thought they're making a "real" SOCOM sequel with SP and on discs as well.

@25 - It remains to be seen how much effort Nintendo is putting in getting new content for download, they seem pretty content in just releasing VC games right now.

Ok, let us play this game. Digi you are retarded. At the begining of a sentence use capital letters. None of your sentences start off with a capital letter. RETARD. Next you Capitalize the I if you are refering to yourself. If you do not, it shows that you look at yourself as insignificant. Next use Google.com and look it up moron, both games are in fact on Blu-Ray. Thanks!
