Hooked fishing attachment for Wii appears on EB site
We know what they're going to say about Hooked, which just had its innovatively cumbersome controller attachment appear on the EB Games site. They're going to say "Look, you've got something that looks like a fishing rod, you're sitting, you're making casting motions, you've apparently got $60 to spend on the thing (so gas money's not the problem) ... Why not just go fishing?"But we know you. We know that if there are two things you love in this crazy, mixed-up world, they're worms and online multiplayer, and if you can save a few of the first by partaking in the second, you've got to take that chance. You can finally sell your Zebco 11T Platinum Ultralight on Sept. 3.

If I can buy this game, why not go fishing?
If I can buy GTA:SA, why don't I just go join a gang?
If I can buy America's Army, why don't I just go join the army?
If I can buy Tetris, why don't I just go work for a moving comapny and stack things?
If I can buy Tony Hawk's Underground, why don't I just go become a professional skateboarder?
If I can buy Guitare Hero, why don't I just go become a rock star?
Maybe because:
1. I don't want to do these things in real life
2. The video game version is easier to master than the real thing, and a lot less dangerous.
[/rant]
Seriously, this game looks alright, I might pick it up used after a while.
kingofwale @ Jun 22nd 2007 11:17AM
>2. The video game version is easier to master than the real thing, and a lot less dangerous.
yeah, we all must watch out for the danger of fishing.
heck, if I want an half-assed fishing game with PSone graphics, I will sure to pick this one up.
and another 5 dollars worth of cheap plastic add-ons that does NOTHING to help with the game play. Great, bring it on the milking machine, man!
UpIrons @ Jun 22nd 2007 11:18AM
This game would be about the only way I would ever catch a fish, if I had plans to buy the game of course, but I'm just not into fishing.
Shagittarius @ Jun 22nd 2007 11:18AM
If I want to post an anti-wii comment on joystiq why don't i just flagubate myself instead of letting the wii huggers do it.
Aj Vaynerchuk @ Jun 22nd 2007 11:21AM
Im kinda sick of seeing these controller attachments, they are pretty worthless and unrealistic. If you are going to make a steering wheel, make it like a real one, not a Wii version!

I think this looks cool, isn't this kinda thing the entire point of the Wii?
Of course I also like the flight stick for Ace combat, bought a racing wheel and playseat, and own 3 guitars for the 360 (painted one) so I guess I am just a peripherals man...
polly @ Jun 22nd 2007 11:23AM
Did anyone ever feel like a lazy p.o.s. when they were working out at the gym with their character in San Andreas? This seems similar to that.
Jonathan Tran @ Jun 22nd 2007 11:24AM
Actually the attachment looks kinda good. Like you can actually do a controleld reeling motion with the nunchuck.
Dustin @ Jun 22nd 2007 11:27AM
Although I would like to see people make their own things that plug into the Wiimote, for instance they could have made an actual reel that worked like a real one and had it plaug into the remote like the nunchuck does, that would be cool and worth $60 bucks...
kingofwale @ Jun 22nd 2007 11:29AM
>Like you can actually do a controleld reeling motion with the nunchuck.
you will be able to reel MUCH faster without that attachment, so I can see people not using it at all.
Dustin @ Jun 22nd 2007 11:31AM
@10: Yes, and you can play Wario ware alot better by ignoring the poses, but where is the fun in that??
Spirit-of @ Jun 22nd 2007 11:33AM
Right here, this article, this is why I can't bring myself to buy a Wii.
Ian Von Porter @ Jun 22nd 2007 11:40AM
Another lame wiimote attachment to cash in on the casual crowd. Lame.
deaftly @ Jun 22nd 2007 11:51AM
the wii is officially becoming the king of overpriced bullshit addons, and the damn $60 wiimote/nunchuck doesnt help either, cant wait for that $20 light gun shell
Evan @ Jun 22nd 2007 12:26PM
Last time I checked its the casual crowd who dont want to spend $60 for a stupid fishing game and would rather play something else
JodyAnthony @ Jun 22nd 2007 12:12PM
depending on the reviews I might buy this. I am a sucker for a good fishing game.
kingofwale @ Jun 22nd 2007 12:27PM
>but where is the fun in that??
what's the fun in Warioware after first 2 hours anyway? :)
Grey Acumen @ Jun 22nd 2007 12:32PM
I love how people are talking shit on the graphics when they haven't even seen the game at all.
Gasp, it may surprise some people, but the Wii IS actually capable of decent graphics. Whether that will actually be the case in this game is still up for grabs, but it's totally possible.
On top of that, people are bitching about the poor quality attachments, but gasp yet again, people might actually want the weight of a fishing rod in their fishing simulator?
Some people who actually fish might look at this and say "Y'know, I want to go fishing, but the weather is crappy" or "gas is too expensive for the trip" or "I just haven't been getting any bites lately and I'd like to get a simple sense of accomplishment instead of going back out there" or "I just want to work on my cast"
These people can pick up on the thing, and they'll actually want to feel the weight that they get from having that extra length(that will actually affect the realism of the cast, for people who actually go fishing, folks), and they will want the feel of having the reel actually connected to the rod.
Us gamers, sure, we feel the attachment is totally unnecessary, but this isn't being marketed at us, it's being marketed at people who actually like to fish.
Get over yourselves, you're no longer the only person games are being marketed towards. Regular people can play games now too.
An actual fisherman can look at this actually practice a bit, not have to wait for good weather, not have to deal with untangling the fishing line, not have to deal with having to find the bait and put it on the hook, not have to worry about losing lures or lines in the water, not have to worry about dealing with speedboats buzzing past or falling into the water, not have to worry about actually cooking the fish afterwards or about cutting his finger while getting the fish off the hook, not have to worry about a 2 hour drive to GET to where he can fish, do I really need to keep going?
jsn @ Jun 22nd 2007 12:55PM
sweet, another gimmick....just like the wii... and most of its games... perfect
kingofwale @ Jun 22nd 2007 1:27PM
>Gasp, it may surprise some people, but the Wii IS actually capable of decent graphics
It would be kinda pointless for me to say "show us some proof", simply because you are pulling that out of your behind. and we all know you can't answer that.
Will RE4 be the best looking game in this generation of Nintendo console AGAIN?
now you know why Nintendo stratched the name "Revolution" from its title. ;)
Boss Tempo @ Jun 22nd 2007 1:31PM
Awesome. More plastic crap for you dorks to flail around your living room with. Money well spent.
JodyAnthony @ Jun 22nd 2007 1:33PM
I think wii is fun. Mine just came back from nintendo today. I had to return it because the graphics card overheated. Can't wait to get home and play some Excite Truck
Boss Tempo @ Jun 22nd 2007 1:40PM
"Regular people can play games now too."
Now there's the comment of the day right there.
"An actual fisherman can look at this actually practice a bit"
An actual fisherman would take this little plastic toy, snap it over his knee and laugh in the face of anyone who is older than 4 years old who paid money for this nonsense. No self-respecting fisherman would be caught dead with this thing anywhere near them, more or less "practice" with it.
Oh and please someone pipe up and say something priceless like, "Oh Tempo, I'm a real fisherman and I would love one of these" - please oh please someone say that.
JodyAnthony @ Jun 22nd 2007 1:43PM
Boss Tempo is better than us wii owners because he owns a different toy than we do.
One day I hope to be as cool as Boss Tempo or kingofwale
Boss Tempo @ Jun 22nd 2007 1:50PM
Not in your wettest dreams Jody.
JodyAnthony @ Jun 22nd 2007 2:04PM
Oh come on Boss, please?!? I really want to be able to try to show the value of myself as a human being by buying a certain video game console and belittling the purchasers of competing consoles.
sc @ Jun 22nd 2007 2:43PM
It usually costs me $90 to go out on a boat to fish - $60 for boat rental, $5 for worms, $5 for parking, $20 for license, food, sunscreen, etc. And usually, I catch nothing by rays, sun rays that is.
I can't wait for this game and I'm really hoping that it's good.
Chill @ Jun 22nd 2007 4:09PM
Another triple shit title for the big N......
