My 360 Elite broke last night. I went to use my return policy, however they did not have any in stock (Best Buy). No where in the SF Bay Area. I ended up downgrading back to the premium and this is was my second console that broke. The last one was a premium when I upgraded to this Elite. I'm glad there's a post where I can vent a little, seems like this issue hasn't been covered recently.

The worst part about this was that I was unable to transfer my saved data from the 120 gig to the 20 gig hard drive so I now lost all my saved games. Killing me...Ack!

This was my comment YESTERDAY... YESTERDAY!

70. My first 360 was D.O.A. The second has worked fine so far... going on 7 months. I bought one for my cousin last week... sent it to him, and it too was D.O.A. Sad times, luckily there is a Walmart on every corner in America. I love my XBOX, so if it ever breaks I just want it back ASAP.

What about Elites? My GF has one, and she didn't have a problem. Any ideas about that?

IT'S BROKEN NOW! JUST RIGHT NOW... 3 RED LIGHTS. Where is my gun? Damn this thing. So bummed out.

my third 360 is coming in the mail soon. my first one died within 20 days, but i think i am to blame- i played oblivion for at least 9 hours at a time, then my brother left it on all night. next morning, RROD. that was exactly a year ago. my 1 year warranty was about to expire, and my DVD drive didn't always eject proper (had to hit the thing to get it to eject), so i called them up and sent it in. i think it was about to die though- oblivion was going sluggishly, gears would freeze occasionally, and the friends list would freeze and not retract frequently. so i hope i have good luck with the new one and get that new heatsink! (i heard they're only doing that in the UK, but whatever, fingers crossed).

I got mine in February and it died yesterday morning. I was zooming along in DiRT and it froze up. I turned it off, turned it on, Red Death. Called Microsoft, went through a couple of minutes of troubleshooting and they agreed I needed to send it in. They are sending a box. Hope it doesn't take more than a couple of weeks.

I'm on my 3rd XBox 360. First one lasted about a month and dies after the 2006 Spring update.

That one lasted until about 2 weeks ago and this time it was the GPU.

Hopefully my 3rd one will last a little longer!

Here's hoping......

Out of my 6 friends that have 360's only one remains that hasn't had the red rings of death. But those won't be on any stat sheet, because all of them did the walmart swap. If you know what I mean.

I'm on my 4th.
1. Launch Unit would freak out with any 360 game and screen would look like alternating vertical bars after 30-60 mins. Could let it cool down and play H2(or any other non-360 game) for hours.
2. Didn't recognize 360 game discs after 1 month.
3. RROD
4. No problems with current unit.

Got mine in Dec. '05 and I thought I was one of the lucky ones since it was still working perfectly fine....Until that one day last month where it suddenly crashed and I had to pay $100 to get it fixed. Xbox customer support is terrible. :(

I just had to send my 2nd 360 off yesterday for repair :(.

Got mine in August 06. It started crashing every day (but no RROD) back in march-ish. Sent it away, it came back with a new motherboard. Played fine (with the odd crash) since.

However, on Sunday, turned it on for a bit of Worm-age, and i got the RROD within 5 mins. D'oh!

So it's going back. So i'll be on Box number 3 when it comes back. Hopefully this'll be the end of my problems!!!

My 360 (purchased Nov 2006) just went down yesterday, and a friends went down 3 days prior.
I wouldn't be a bit surprised if that "30%" estimate is on the low side (34.44 still rounds to 30 mind you!)

Well had a pristine condition 360 for 7 months and then the 3 red lights killed it, there were probably no more than 30 hours of usuage on it. Sent it in got a refurb, took 2.5 weeks, well i go to play a dvd a week after i get it back doesn't work, they sent me a xbox from a different country, so my region 1 dvds don't work, they are horrible, i told the guy i tried 20 some dvds and he keeps asking me if the disc is dirty or scratched. All of my friends and relatives are on there 3rd or 4th xbox, well hopefully i get back a decent refurb, probably not

i am currently on my 2nd xbox 360, the 1st one got the rrof after 2 months (see its actual moment of death www.youtube.com/videosdaniel ), i got a refurb, the thing no one mentions is the fact that your console doesnt have the downloaded content installed/registered, even if you kept the hard drive, cuz everything is registered to the old console and you need to buy them again, otherwise they are only trial or none existing, like gow 2nd map pack in my case (except only for the gamertag that bought them, but i have 3 gamertags)then i spent 2 months talking to M$ and i got my points back for downloading the content again, a real pain in the ass but it could be done.

Something else you guys might want to create a seperate post on.

Xbox 360 hits further production problems

Meanwhile more horror stories of Xbox 360 failures have seen the light of day in the press this week.

Microsoft’s UK repair centre in Havant is now redistributing faulty consoles to foreign repair centres in order to clear an overwhelming backlog and keep up with the 1,500 to 2,500 Xbox 360s arriving at its doors on a daily basis, according to customer reports.

"A shocking statistic we found out though is that between 1,500 to 2,500 consoles get sent to Havant by three UPS lorries per day, to then be shipped to Prague for repair" reported a reader discussing his repair story with 360-gamer.com.

Whilst UK-based repairs specialist Micromart has told GamesIndustry.biz that it has had to refuse to service Xbox 360 consoles that display three red lights, dubbed the Red Ring of Death.

"We were seeing about 30 a week before we pulled the plug on the service," said Jeff Croft of Micromart.

I've just sent my Xbox back a second time. Got my original unit back the first time, hope i get it back again! This time was a different error.. luckily in new zealand extended warrenties are not needed as we are guarenteed by law that all products should work as advertised for their intended purposes for a "resonable" length of time.. resonable being based on type of product and the amount you paid. I've NEVER had any issues with ANY other console i've owned.. and that's a lot of consoles. My PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, Dreamcast, and N64 are all still going strong. I have decided to buy an additional cooling unit this time while EB have their winter sale still on!

My 2nd Xbox just failed, about 7 months after the first one did. The 2nd unit was brand new in December and ran more quiet than the first one that failed. Same deal though, 3 red lights, DOA. Friend of mine has one from the initial release and his sporadically shows 3 red lights, but somehow has recovered each time. 30% rate? I wouldn't be suprised at all.

360 #5 is being repaired as we speak, so number 6 should arrive in the next week or two. what a joke, at least I have my pc and ps3 to keep me happy, but m$ blows for releasing junk that should have been checked for quality. o wait, they were checked and beta tested? then I guess m$ just willfully ripped us all off eh? o wait again, they only did it to 40 per cent of us.

And I do mean 40 per cent, the fact that they are admitting to 30 should tell anyone with a modicum of paranoia that the number is higher than that.
