Wow free stuff and they keep on whining!

Do you see us whining about stuff that you guys get for free over there (wherever it is)

Please read up on Major Nelsons site about license agreements, contracts, availability, country ratings and all that good stuff that has nothing to do with joystiq, major nelson or anybody that you can blame it on.

Microsoft is trying their best to get the video marketplace expanded into other countries, they cant just illegally show movies wherever you guys whine about.

/thank you

At #5:

I live in Canada. Which is fucking right next to fucking US. We have similar laws and still no Video MP among other things (We never got the Family Guy Picture pack apparently) We both get the same movies, so I see no reason why the CRTC would be doing this. Its BS.

All you have to do is create a hotmail account stating that you live in the US, then create another silver account using that hotmail account then download it...I have a japanese and a european silver account just for that purpose...

It's standard def (I already have the DVD), and it's a "rental", so who knows how long you'll get to watch it. You guys aren't missing out on anything.

It's a rental. You can keep it for 14 days if you don't watch it, in which it expires, but once you push play, you only have it for 24 hours after that.

Those of us outside the US have every right to complain when we're receiving a less than equal service for a product we paid more money for.

Hey guys - hate to burst your bubbles, but MS isn't really to blame, here.

If you want to complain - you should do it to McDonald's. They're the ones sponsoring this.

Well actually you don't pay a fee for live to get free movie rentals, but I can understand your frustrations.

I have paid the same money for my Gold service as every other region (currency exchange aside) and my "Gold" is not in fact a Gold service at all but rather a subset of the US Gold service. If I don't have the ability to get all the services, access, etc to the same content, then mine is not a gold service. I should not have to spend the same money for the yearly subscription and also, anytime downloadable movies and such are mentioned, they should always be caveated with "Only available in USA" to ensure that everyone understands this is not globally available.

I think I might have to start saying "BURGER KING ASSHOLE, GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!", like, all the time. For instance:

Friend: You want to see Spiderman 3 this weekend?
Me: BURGER KING ASSHOLE, GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!!

Give it a try, it's fun.

Unless I'm mistaken, the only thing you don't have access to that we do is the Video marketplace. The problem with your "We all pay the same thing" theory is that you do NOT pay what we pay. On top of the Live fee that everyone pays, we (or some sponsor) has to pay for the video that we download. It isn't free, and you aren't getting shafted. You get EVERYTHING you pay for.

Tombstone,

Sometimes we just don't want to share all of our cool things with our younger brother. After all, wouldn't you get annoyed if all you heard from that youngster was "I WANT IT TOO....MOMMMM....NO FAIR!!!"

WRONG. Video marketplace is a feature of XBL. A feature that is crippled everywhere but the U.S. So yes we ARE all paying the same for less content. I'll bet the whining would b e EPIC if MS announced that everywhere else was getting XBL at a cheaper rate that the U.S. because this feature isn't available.

@Steve (#23)

Actually, you're wrong - the Xbox Live Marketplace (including the video marketplace) is available to everyone with a Silver account. US customers get it regardless of whether they pay anything. In other words, it sucks you don't have it (personally I don't even use it), but you're not getting "less" for your Gold subscription.

Licensing, people. Licensing. It's not like a switch they can throw.

Like all content middlemen, Microsoft has to negotiate the rights for every territory that it does business in. It just so happens that the US is the one territory that it understands and has been licensing content in for years via MSN.

Sure, that means that nobody in India can download movies from Xbox Live yet, because Microsoft hasn't had successful negotiations in that territory yet. Similarly, there are demos in Japan that can't be downloaded in the US, because the Japanese developers have paid for the legal right to distribute 3rd party music, art, texture libraries, sound effect libraries, and middlewear only in their home country and not around the world.

Nobody offers worldwide licensing of content. Nobody. This is not Microsoft's fault, but the way that licensing works.

In other words, if you're upset about not being able to access things which are single-territory licensed, push the UN for a worldwide content licensing board. Or help Microsoft make contacts in your local country or jurisdiction as they go through the arduous process of becoming an established content middleman worldwide.

But please stop the complaints that Billy stole your lolly pop. Billy is trying to sell you a lolly pop as soon as he can get the rights to one in your territory. But you didn't have one to begin with and you haven't actually paid for one.
