Chun Li cries the pain of loss away

Kinda stinks that the first image we see showing one of the strong ladies from SSFIITHDROMGSRSLY has to be one of her all abused. Show us Chun Li thigh, that's her strongest feature! All the guys we've seen were portrayed all macho in fighting poses. So far we've seen Ken and Akuma, then last week we saw Guile, with his controversial backwards American flag. One of the developers for the game says, "Guile's flags tattoos are not backwards. Well technically they are, but it depends on which way the character is facing. Because the old code flips the character art depending on which way the character is facing, it was like this before but just not as noticeable." We're pretty sure that violates some rule about the flag. Yeah, the US flag has rules. Maybe we'll get a non-Frank Miller Sin City version of Chun Li next?

One of the flag rules is "The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever..." However, I think we see this one violated every 4th of July.
Grey Acumen @ Jun 23rd 2007 3:48PM
Technically, the flag should be fine as long as it's not upside down.
Lets face it, when you fly the flag on a flag pole, if you look at it from the "front" the square with the stars will be in the top left hand corner, but if you look at it from the "back"(or if the wind happens to be blowing in the OTHER direction) the square with the stars will be in the top right hand corner.
With the whole avatar flipping when facing the other way, this will actually be the most realistic flag ever. Since you can essentially see both sides of the it.
But yeah, I have to admit, that is kinda shameless. I guess they felt too ashamed to let the guys be seen crying over having their asses handed to them.

It looks like she just got savagely raped.

My first thought was that there was a Street Fighter Hentai...
Awesome HD artwork though,

Is it me, or did the sprites for Guilty Gear look infinitely better than this?
I don't think it's just me.
bm @ Jun 23rd 2007 5:17PM
@vincent avatar: No, it's not just you. Fact is, these are just the old sprites getting polished up, and those looked crappy to begin with.
No offense to the guys working on these as they're very skilled, but no matter how much shine and detail they put into it, they'll never look near as good as a sprite that was done from scratch by a good artist like they are, for example Guilty Gear, SF3 or Garou: Mark of the Wolves. Despite those being of a drastically lower resolution.
Just goes to show that HD means absolutely shit. it's like 10% of what makes a game look good. The other 90% is art.
That said, I don't like how they basically cut out the head and body of this and just moved them around. Looks like some flash cartoon. Look at the inconsistencies in the neck area.

Americans spend way too much time worrying about that flag. I think maybe it needs a girlfriend.
The Canadian flag, maybe? It's pretty hot, and right next door.
Or the Japanese flag, if something more long-distance works?
fawazr @ Jun 23rd 2007 5:53PM
Wow! That looked hella-bukkake for a minute there!
StrangeBum @ Jun 23rd 2007 7:06PM
To settle the thing about the flag, and I asked a Marine about this because on his BTU the flag was the same way he said and to quote "The flag is backwards representing that these stars never run away."
And about Chun-Li, damn, I wanted to see her all her glory, but she already seems to be looking better albeit beat up and crying.
Aberu @ Jun 23rd 2007 8:23PM
@1 ROFL I thought the same exact thing. I'm going to go cry in the corner now for being a sick bastard. Seriously where the hell did you guys get that animation. Give me the account name and pw kthx?
NintendoFanbot @ Jun 23rd 2007 9:29PM
Chun-Li is sniffing something to make the pain go away. :o
Nathan M @ Jun 23rd 2007 9:47PM
#13 is right, the flag is backwards on BDUs and such generally when going into battle(or wearing some kind of combat uniform, like a BDU or ACU). I asked my ROTC drill instructor about that once.
AirPocket @ Jun 23rd 2007 9:48PM
Wow. I'm going to have to start playing these games if Chun Li is that kind of girl.
Kidding guys, kidding.
Still, my first thought about that picture were probably the same as everyone elses.
Slaziman @ Jun 23rd 2007 11:20PM
ill jump on the bandwagon and admit that I thought the same as a lot of you when I first saw this...
BPM @ Jun 23rd 2007 11:41PM
Grey Acumen,
The issue is that it's a tattoo, not an actual flag. It should the stars should be facing the same way, no matter which way Guile is facing.
But, they're basically using the original game code, but with brand new, hand-drawn sprites. So, it'll be using sprite flipping, juas as in the original.

John Doe @ Jun 24th 2007 5:00AM
Ah-oh. Naughty thoughts a brewing.
sorahn @ Jun 24th 2007 12:20PM
@10
They're using the original code that they wrote way back when, which means that all the animations are going to have exactly the same number of frames as they did when the game first came out.
