Totally, let me go buy the game when it's finally out so I can guess what gave it an AO rating (considering if it's finally released.. it won't have the shit in it that made it AO, thus negating what was so controversial about it to begin with...smart people)

I have absolutely no interest in this title. It is sick. In a bad way.

there won't even be a sale if they can't get under AO, much less a sale boost.

God, I love how this may end up backfiring in Jack and the governments' faces. If they had just let it get released as is, it probably would have done moderately well. Now that they are on such a rampage against it, it will only help the game. I expect this game, when (or if) it comes out, will greatly help out T2.

Haha, Jack. Checkmate.

It'll probably still be trash, just like the first one.

So they're gonna censor it then?

Well nevermind then. I mean, I wouldn't care much with other games, but when the entire point of the game is the controversial content to begin with, which is then getting cut out, I'm not gonna bother.

Why not just censor the game and sell it rated m in retail stores and have a coupon code in the case to buy the unrated game off their website for 10 dollars or so.

why dont you guys like the 1st game? most people like it that i know, except these people on joysitq.
i think you need to look at mannhunt as a work of art. t2 did something that most games never thought of and made it good. it got a 9.5 on gameinformer.
it rocked guys.
i hope they review it uncensored and get the M rating. i want t2 and rockstar to make as much money as they can. as for stocks, yes! more money for them, so they can make even better games.

another thing is that dont you guys see, even with everyone hating jack tompson, you all are being influenced by him. you are all scared of what he might think and say that you will be fine with an AO rating just to keep him quiet. i think jack needs to die and go to hell already.
the esrb is doing there job, they just need to relax alittle and know that adults can make there own decisions.

if you all vote for obama we wont have to worry about hilary banning games from being sold.

more games sold = more money for them = more better games in the future + more competion cause developers wont die out.

"why dont you guys like the 1st game?"

I can't speak for anyone else, but the reason I didn't like the first one was because it was all about shock value and nothing else: at its core, Manhunt was a very poorly-designed game, full of repetitive gameplay and really weak artificial intelligence.

Once you got over the shock of the brutality of the murders, there was nothing else there.

The game could have been really good if they had put more work into how it actually played instead of making sure they offended as many people as possible.

Once again, that's just my opinion.

These analysts are morons. They are echoing the same things that countless crackpots said during the GTA III: SA Hot Coffee fiasco.

Take Two lost countless millions in potential sales over that deal and their stock took a serious pounding. You can bet that there ain't a single person in that company who still believes in the old "there's no such thing as bad publicity" fallacy.

It's just frustrating that the videogame media [c'mon Joystiq, you guys are usually sharper than that] keeps going to the same cliche' well without taking two or three minutes to think things out.

ESRB needs to go.

They're not consistent, they're weak (no balls and too quick to submit).

They need to come up with a rating for a game and stick with it. They need to be consistent with the way they rate games and not single out a game because of hype or politics.

These guys are cowards and their ratings are worthless.

Hell I'll be honest. I pre-ordered this because of all this. Yeah I loved Manhunt but I probably would have just waited until the price went down on this.

I agree with dan. It'd be really stupid of us to believe that this sort of publicity is actually going to help the sales of this game. The same thing was said about the sale of records in the 90's that earned the "parental advisory explicit lyrics" sticker on them, believe it or not but those records typically sold (and still do) sell less than those sans parental advisory stickers.

What really surprises me is the apparent apathy in gaming circles about this. People are reporting on it, but nobody cares. Joystiq, Kotaku, why aren't you more pissed off? This is exactly how we lose our rights to freedom of speech and expression. Slowly.

The MPAA is not consistent either yet they are not under the spotlight they also release NC17 movies as unrated and no one bats a eye.

The ESRB could use some changing but if it was replaced, retail would still "ban" adult games.

After the whole GTA: San Andreas 'Hot Coffee' controversy don't you think that Rockstar would be a little more media savvy?
Well, maybe they are. Remember the old saying, "There is no such thing as bad publicity".
By releasing a game that they knew would never get by the censors they have achieved a level of publicity for Manhunt 2 that no amount of money could buy. They may well have included content in the game that they knew would never get by the censors, much like many film makers do, so that the censors would have something to cut and feel that they had done their job.
Manhunt 2 will come out, in some form. The internet has no geographical boundaries after all so what's to stop you downloading it?
Having only recently played the first Manhunt though I was struck by its similarities to such games as Hitman, ie sneaking around killing evil gang members. So what's the big deal? Certainly the game has very dark overtones and I wouldn't let a minor play it, the violence is highly stylised and surely only a complete retard could confuse a game with reality?
