I will be very irate if they sully this game with Multiplayer like they sullied MP:2. This game is NOT a FPS. Stop calling it that. It's a First Person ADVENTURE. Meaning exploration is more important than shooting your stupid gun.

Complaining about Metroid having a multi-player mode is akin to complaining about special extra features on a DVD.
It's there if you want it, and if you choose to ignore it, it does literally nothing to dampen your enjoyment of the game.

@Grog
Your right, I did miss Rubangs point. I should maybe read posts more thoroughly.
@Rubang
Yeah, 15 million copies, that could be a good or bad thing.

Can the guys at Play ever be cautiously optimistic about something? It's like Dave Halverson is sitting in his office racking his brain trying to come up with something more laudatory to say about this game as compared to the game he overhyped last issue.

@Samfish

No, Retro Studios is only going to put so much time/money into this game, and any effort expended on a multiplayer mode, or even worse network code to try to drag the game online, is effort that won't be spent on the single player experience, which is the point and purpose of Metroid. I'm not saying that it will make the game bad, Metroid Prime 2 had multiplayer and it was still an awesome game, but it could have been even better if they had devoted the effort they spent on multiplayer polishing the game or adding new areas.

Stop it. Seriously. All those fanboy comments... You are just jealous you do not have MP3 to rock your console.

Yeah, we have Bioshock (PC360) and The Darkness (PS360).
Again, who needs something that would've rocked IF it came out in 2005?

People are still complaining about the graphics? Obviously these screenshots look worse then they actually are. It's like watching a video of Halo 3 on YouTube and judging the graphics based on that!

"uh... what's with all these pixels durr"

Give me a break, if all your complaints are about the way the game looks, you've got problems.

Oh and why does everyone remember where the Wii controls went bad (Red Steel) and not where it worked well, (Call of Duty 3, Elebits, Resident Evil 4, SSX Blur to name a few).

I thought the 360 and PS3 were supposed to cater to the "older" audiences, fanboys here are just so pathetic and all of you sound like you're 12.

Well I guess that if halo can be revolutionary by having "not sucky dual analogue controls" then its possible for Metroid to be revolutionary by having not sucky wiimote controls. We'll just have to wit and see.

Prime had very little pointless backtracking.. every time you opened up a new ability and therefore a new area, you also opened up new routes to allow you to get there.

I found prime incredibly addicting..but once i finally finished it i couldn't really face playing the sequel.. not enough time in my days.

On the other hand, Halo had horrendous level design and a poor story... so its good that it's controls and weapons were so nicely polished.

I'm sorry, Wiimote worked well in Call of Duty 3???

Remind me again once I get out of the constant spinning please. :)

oh, you might want to add Farcry in there as well. :)

I've played a few Wii FPS games and still believe there is potential in the mote even though I have been unimpressed so far. With last gen graphics and poor/no online, I doubt it will have many or any of the best hardcore shooters. Metroid is kind of a genre mash-up in that it is a shooter, but also heavily a platformer and adventure game at the same time. It isn't a straight FPS like Halo.

And seriously people, Halo AND Metroid are both good franchises. Halo is built on co-op and local multiplayer, when Halo2 added a solid online multiplayer that is fun and addicting. Metroid is built on exploration, unique enemies, and finding cool shit, just like it always has been. They can co-exist.

And yes, Halo was revolutionary, or at the very least trend-setting. Sure, all of its aspects were in other games previously. But since Halo, all console shooters use vehicles, single button grenade, checkpoints, re-generating health, co-op, and likely some things I am forgetting. I mean, Halo kind of invented this gameplay formula that has been re-used so many times on consoles that Halo has become "just another shooter."

As for someone's comment that the Wii is the future of all gaming. Easy buddy. But it is possible that next gen controllers will use motion controls. But I really hope crappy gfx, weak online, friend codes, no HDD, no HD, and other things that make the Wii so cheap, but annoy the hell out of me personally, don't become the future of all gaming. ;)

Linear games are mindless. Backtracking is a logical design for a game that requires thinking.

I would also like to take this time to laugh at the people who still believe that the mouse & keyboard control scheme is all that and a bag of chips. The mouse & keyboard control scheme is clunky and unintuitive control method. The reason people insist on it being the best is because the PC is where the best FPS games existed. They had the best graphics and were the sole domain for online and networked FPS gaming.

With Wii you no longer have to kid yourself on the "benefits" of the mouse/keyboard control system, and the 360 provides the graphics and online capabilities once reserved for the PC.

"Give me a break, if all your complaints are about the way the game looks, you've got problems."

Okay, this I gotta comment on.

So what if someone bashes the graphics. Has Nintendo come forward with an excessively detailed look at the game in depth including tracking speed and such? Has Nintendo elaborated upon how weaponry, visors, items, and even the one I'm personally worried about, morph mode controls (please don't make it Super Metroid Ball)? Has Nintendo commented on all our fears and even placed a Wiimote in our hands and let us judge the controls for ourselves? Has Nintendo commented on the concerns of game length or artificial lengthening (artifacts)?

Short answer, no. All we have are vague descriptions and screenshots. So with the limited amount of information we have, what is wrong with judging on the screenshots. We sure as fuck can't comment on the gameplay, story, weapons, wii controls, or even items. So until that changes and we get closer to the date, it's not fanboyish to bash a game on screenshots.

Every game can talk about the potential of the final project but as Fable has taught us, what we are promised and what will ultimately be delivered are two drastically different things.

@39 and 42

Don't know what you're talking about when you say no strafing for Wii games. You can just press left or right on the control stick lol you could strafe no problem in Red Steel, COD3, and FarCry...let's not speak of FarCry though...euugh.

And 42, you could infact strafe in Metroid Prime, it's called L+Left or Right+B. It's called a sidestep, a common technique in Metroid Prime games, surprised you forgot about it.

The problem though lies with people not seeing the new screenshots that Metorid Prime 3 has to offer. The ones shown by joystiq are from the older version of the game. The magazine Play has the newer screenshots of the game which look amazing compared to the older version. Also, to me its annoying when people say that one game is better than another game when neither game is out. It doesn't make sense. When people compare games that they only know about but have not played.

Sheppy:

Actually people were allowed to test out Metroid Prime 3 at the Nintendo Fusion tour or whatever it's called. They enjoyed it and the controls were spot on.

And since when have you known Nintendo to speak about its games? Nintendo barely ever says anything about any of its games before they're released. They just show some screenshots, they let some people test it out for a limited amount of time and then when they're done with it, they release it. They usual release really good games too.

When was the last time Nintendo ever really disappointed? You could say Twilight Princess was disappointing because of its graphics or controls, well, it was a port version of the Gamecube game. That's why they're working on a new Zelda game. But overall, Twilight Princess was still a pretty damn good experience.

Someone mentioned that Wii graphics are "Last Gen" no they're not. Developers are just lazy bastards who just want to ride on this Wii hype, thinking the games will sell well. The animations and graphics for Mario Galaxy looks real good and so does Super Smash Bros.

Give it time, just like we're still waiting for the PS3 to show it's true powers, you've got to give the Wii time, I'm sure in a few months, when the good games come out, we'll forget that these silly debates about graphics ever took place.

I think there will be some great online FPS games to come out for Wii. The question is when. The genre itself is suffering because there are simply too many FPS's out there right now.

@SuperMario21

Yeah, but welcome to da internets. I actually stumbled across an arguement once talking about how the Thundercats movie is going to be much better than the Tranformers movie.

And if people are going to bash, they are going to bash, period. Updated info or not, they'll still bash it.

@Patrick

Okay, first off, I didn't say were my position lies (I'm waiting for more final info). I was just saying it's foolish for people to bash people who bash a game based on the limited info available.

As for when was the last time Nintendo disappointed on the Wii? Well, when was the last game release? At this point, we're just waiting for the big three to validate our faith in the console. Big Brain blew, Mario Party 8 was akin to having a tapeworm removed via your urinary track, Warioware was far too gimmickly and merely a pathetic, tragic shadow of the glory of the original and Twisted, WiiPlay was pure ass but at least you got a remote... I could go on but... I'll stop there.

Just because something has the Nintendo logo does not instantly make it good. Often, well crafted, but never a confirmation of good. Especially on Wii were they have more misses currently (IMO) than hits. And I'm not expecting battle revolution to set the world on fire either.

There is no doubt Wii is capable of better graphics, but who do we have driving us to this promise land? Nintendo? Good game makers they may be, but Twilight Princess, a game with an additional year of polish, still looked graphically dated on it's native console compared to RE4. To truly show off the Wii, Nintendo will have to rely on the third parties again and they aren't too interested in the job. RIGHT NOW anyway.

Actually, there is strafing in both Primes thus far. If you held in the left trigger slightly, your view stays forward and you move left and right.

"The game's long delay was to add a "Twilight Princess level of polish" "

So they plan to make the game twice as long as it needs to be, rush the last three dungeons, build a completely uninspired last level, and then totally drop the ball by making the final boss fight gorgeous but completely shallow?

I'm SO there!
