Nintendo hearts the environment
The train of good press for Nintendo just keeps chugging along. The latest piece comes from GoNintendo, who had a reader contact Nintendo about their environmental policies. The full response can be found after the break, but a couple things that stand out are that Nintendo purchases recycled paper towels, report covers, message pads, and writing pads. They also use 80% recycled paper in all their shipping packaging. So, now that we know what Nintendo does to help save our little planet, we wonder what Microsoft and Sony do? We doubt that either tests their products on animals, but are they using recycled toilet paper (not used, there's a difference) and recycling 70% of the waste from their headquarters? We don't know about Sony, but at least we know that Microsoft recycles their broken Xbox 360s. Oh come on, it had to be said.
Nintendo response:
Nintendo is very concerned with doing our part to help preserve the environment. We're always researching new products and procedures to make our products and operations as environmental-friendly as possible.
Some things Nintendo is already doing:
In our offices:
– We recycle the paper we use company-wide.
– We limit our use of colored paper, since it's not easily recycled.
– We purchase recycled paper towels, report covers, message pads, and writing pads.
– We currently recycle more than 70% of the waste that is generated at our headquarters.
– We actively promote the recycling of aluminum cans and glass in our corporate cafeterias.
In our products:
– We use at least 80% recycled paper in all of our shipping packaging.
– We no longer use Styrofoam in our game pak or Game Boy packaging.
– All of our instruction manuals are printed on recycled paper.
– We no longer use plastic Game Pak covers.
– Our clamshell packaging is recyclable and most recycling centers accept it.
– We require that manufacturers not use any banned substances (such as lead, mercury, etc.) in components, nor use them in the manufacturing process for any components used inside of our products. This requirement also extends to suppliers of packaging, marketing materials, and other items used in the marketing and distribution of our products.

Game Paks?
Sounds like they need to update their standard environmental form letter, because they haven't made Game "Paks" in...what, 6 years?

hey look, nintendo does something good for the environment that most every other large company in the world also does. Well, bout time for required to continue his quest to prove that he is infact jack tretton's personal ballhoister.
just about every company is environmentally friendly nowadays, but because someone asked a nintendo rep about it and the rep responded, required has to try to prove that his company of choice is somehow better. guess what required - you are still a douchebag.
JodyAnthony @ Jun 25th 2007 9:17PM
also noise tank, GBA games were game paks
Zack @ Jun 25th 2007 9:18PM
I always wondered what happened to those cases that came bundled with gameboy games...
rarehero @ Jun 25th 2007 9:19PM
There's pretty much no significance to a site with the word 'Nintendo' in it reporting on Nintendo's internal policies.
I'd rather have an unbiased report from some environmental agency, not even a game related one.
required @ Jun 25th 2007 9:26PM
JodyAnthony, Please stop trying to put your words in my mouth, in no way did I say that I believed Sony was better and why are you calling me a douchebag?
required @ Jun 25th 2007 9:29PM
rarehero, I agree.
Grog @ Jun 25th 2007 9:32PM
Perhaps, required, it is because you are. ;)

Grog, I'd love for you to post reasons for why you feel that I alone cleanse vagina.
required @ Jun 25th 2007 9:40PM
I ask the same of you JodyAnthony (of jodylovesnintendo.com fame). What makes you believe I cleanse vagina?
required @ Jun 25th 2007 9:43PM
And JodyAnthony (of jodylovesnintendo.com fame) I'd also like to know why you called me a ballsac:

The fact that their console stays on all the time isn't that environmentaly friendly.
Isn't the EU considering environmental legislation to insist that all electrical items actually switch off, rather than going into standby modes?
pangit @ Jun 25th 2007 11:22PM
i know bill gates personally donates millions to charity.
samfish @ Jun 25th 2007 11:33PM
I have to stay out of these environmental threads because I'll get way too pissed off when some dolt comes in and starts repeating AEI talking points and goes on about 'Gorebal Warming Propaganda' and stuff.
But required...you're just a leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeettle bit too pro-Sony usually...even for a fanboy!
Goodbye, y'all! I'll be taking out the trash and other non-fun stuff.
Matt B @ Jun 25th 2007 11:36PM
I process beer internally daily. Something has to filter out the water and give it back to the land....and rain. Theoretically, I may have pissed on some of you inadvertently. I apologize in advance.
For wii jizz wearers, I retract my advance apology.

"– All of our instruction manuals are printed on recycled paper."
That's some quality recycled paper!

If almost every company did even half of what Nintendo claims to do, this planet would be in much better shape right now.
I'm not saying Nintendo deserve all the kudos, but seriously, the more companies who come out about their policies, the more pressure there is on everyone else to shape up.
Zertoss @ Jun 26th 2007 9:15AM
Microsoft tests on animals. Halo 3 beta proves that.
