Square Enix: No PS3 games (Final Fantasy XIII) until after April 2008

According to German gaming site Gamefront, the Japanese publication Nihon Keizai Shimbun is reporting that Square Enix will not release any games for the PlayStation 3 until the start of the new fiscal year, April 1, 2008. In other words, keep waiting for Final Fantasy XIII. This is backed-up by an earlier statement from the company's president Yoichi Wada that FFXIII would not be released this fiscal year. Assuming the game hits Japan shortly thereafter, factor in translation, localization, and the hiring of bad voice actors, and we could be facing a North American and European launch in 2009 ... or later (cue spooky noises).

Umm...This doesn't provide any new information from what was reported by Square Enix, so why are we commenting on old news? Anyway, you making a big asssumption that they aren't translating the game right now and including multiple languages on a single disc. It's no more of a stretch than your 2009 release date that really comes from nowhere. They seem to plan on releasing MGS4 in the same time frame in Japan and NA, so it isn't so far fetch.

A spring or summer 2008 release of Final Fantasy for PS3 would be earlier than I expected...I don't think we'll see it until Fall '08. I think I'll still be playing Halo 3 then though...

An so it continues. The PS3 will sit in japanese stores until 2008. The japanese are waiting for this game. They will not buy a PS3, until this game is released. Sorry Sony :(

Well at least they have Crisis Core for the PSP this sept 07.

@7: yeah it is in game that screen will be followed by a press X bit to continue onto the next part of the game which will be a bit more of those hard core exciting 4D graphics we all have come to expect from a PS3....

I work at a video game store and I got my PS3 from a customer for $300 but it isn't even worth that to me. Sony has fallen. They will never, ever enjoy the lead they had with the PS2. I personally tell customers not to buy it and recommend a Wii or Xbox 360 or both.

Nothing you've seen of FF13 so far is in-game. They're all renders. If you believe the final game will look like the image in this blog you're about as stupid as the people thinking the recent Ivy image (from SC4) is real-time. And Square sucks balls. They haven't released a good game in 7 years.

Square should never have made FF12 for the PS2. They could have used that dev time for PS3 instead and had a system selling FF game by now.

Smart move for Square - better install base with the PS2. Bad for Sony.

Check the dictionary. Most will show both pronunciations as being correct. I suppose it depends on what region of the world you live in, and therefore, what dialect of the English language you are using.

The choice to pronounce it as "markwiss" as opposed to "markee" or "mahkee" was intentional.

SeeD is right. This was the game that was supposed to come out in March-ish of next year to start the PS3 selling systems. Late summer or holiday season (do they have that in Japan) will find this game, and it won't be too late (it will never be too late for Final Fantasy in Japan).

The Final Fantasy games I like are FFV, FFVI, FFIX, FFCC, FFTA, and FFIII. I hate all the main series starting from 7 except 9 which is a throwback to the older styled FF's. Too much cinema not enough story.

On the other hand, if your console had *any* fun games on it, we could have a discussion here, but Resistance and Motorsprinkle aren't really console movers, as we've all seen. Of course, you can also fall back on the whole Blu-Ray kicking HD-DVD's butt tactic as well, which never gets old. Especially when the majority of movie watchers are still enjoying the regular DVD format and couldn't give a crap less for the new formats.

It's OK, man. You bought a niche product. People also bought the CD-i at the time, too.

BulletToothTony, shut the puck-man up. I'm trying to decide if I want to buy The Darkness, Overlord, or Shadowrun this week. In a few weeks Two Worlds will pass July by. BioShock, Blue Dragon, and Too Human are all slated for August. September shows Halo 3 and Mass Effect for us 360 users. October has Half-Life 2 and Naruto: Rise of a Ninja. And for those oh-so-cold winter months we have an awesome line-up of multiplatform and exclusive titles flowing in via the holidays. Suck it, man. I hate this level of post of bragging about game lists, but suck it, 360 is just as good as PS3. This doesn't even include the already amazing list of games on the system and some games I missed like Eternal Sonata.

This whole delay thing is simply a race. If last remnant, lost oddysey, blue dragon, and eternal sonata sell well on the 360, and vastly increases the user base of rpg gamers on the 360 then we WILL see FF13 with a big fat "only for brakebox 360" logo looming above it. If the failstation 3 picks up a larger user base in order for them to make a profit by mid 2008 then it will remain exclusive 2 ps3.
If it goes both ways FFV13 will be for xbox 360, and FF13 will be for PS3. All of this is IMO (IN MY OPPINION) so don't aim your flamethrowers at me.
