Hori supplies Wii with fighting stick
Just in time for Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core comes the Fighting Stick Wii by Hori. Not only is Hori the name in consumer level sticks, but they've also developed quite a reputation over the years with their decidedly niche products such as the Game Boy Player and Dragon Quest Slime controllers. This should come as a relief to not only Guilty Gear fans who fear the new "waggle controls," (Aksys words, not ours) but to fans of the Virtual Console as well. It's not going to magically imbue those ports with arcade perfection, but at least it'll make playing Zangief a whole lot easier in SF2 Turbo.
The Fighting Stick Wii ships in August with no word yet on a US release, though we wouldn't hold our breath.

Hahaha, "Zangief Approves"... Nice.
Hori makes some good stuff... But I didn't know their GB Player controller was licensed in America... I imported mine...
I have seen their screen protectors for DS and PSP in stores, as well as their extendable styli for the DS.

Huh, I thought the amazing life-changing waggle wand was supposed to make all traditional controllers obsolete...
NintendoFanbot @ Jun 26th 2007 4:15PM
Gooood. Now Capcom, put a fighter on Wii. And it has to have Dan in it, or I'll not buy it right away.
vidGuy @ Jun 26th 2007 4:26PM
"obsolete" no, "look-and-feel ridiculous" yes.
The unknown avenger @ Jun 26th 2007 4:29PM
Hopefully this has a Classic Controller mode and a Gamecube and normal Wiimote mode.
JodyAnthony @ Jun 26th 2007 4:34PM
wow baby sea tuna, one might think that hori was a third party or something.
Matt B @ Jun 26th 2007 4:37PM
....and holding up a bright white equivalent to a square TV remote doesn't look and feel ridiculous?
vidGuy @ Jun 26th 2007 4:43PM
No.

A wii remote is a lot more like a rectangular prism than it is a square, matt. Get your geometric shapes right! I am the leader of the Rectangular Prism Defense Force

Is it comtatible with the virtual console?
Almadi @ Jun 26th 2007 5:02PM
Would August happen to be the month when NeoGeo games get released on the Virtual Console?

RACCOON POLICE DEPARTMENT FORCE activate!
Oh crap!

The only thing I really dislike about the Hori sticks is there insistance on using square restrictor plates in the stick portion. Playing 2d fighters with it can be very awkward because its difficult to perform a quarter circle with it.
I much prefer the octagonal restrictor typically found in american fare.
Kendall B @ Jun 26th 2007 5:41PM
Their instead of there, sorry.
Sidepocket @ Jun 26th 2007 5:45PM
To answer, yes, Guilty Gear does have Classic Controller support as well as Wii Remote.
Norm @ Jun 26th 2007 6:06PM
Kendall B, You are thinking about Happ joysticks, which are mostly circular, not octagonal (especially the Perfect 360 models). Octogonal restrictors are actually made for the Sanwa JLF series of joysticks, which are what the Hori Sticks are based on. The 'real arcade pro' sticks are actually real Sanwa sticks.
Octagon restrictors only cost like 3 bucks, and you can easily mod hori sticks with them, though. I could even help you with that.
Norm @ Jun 26th 2007 6:08PM
Oh duh, I worded that all wrong. Octagon restrictors are Japanese, but Japanese sticks DO come with square gates/restrictors by default. American sticks are circular. Duh. =E

Jody, I'm sure the shape you meant to convey was 'cuboid'.
REALLY POWERFUL DOLPHIN FORCE member present!
And since when were you the leader?
As long as I'm the mysterious, hard, second in command anti-hero I dont mind.

Quasimoto makes arcade controllers for the Wii. Check out there stuff at www.quasimoto.com.

I'm pretty sure that Guilty Gear can use Wiimote, Classic and GCN controllers just like SSBB.

Man, Zangief looks like he just cut one. Check out that guilty look on his face!
