Do they have better things to donated time and resources to like....IDK, maybe getting illegal guns and drugs off the street and ending gang violence?

They will never stop piracy. Period. The solicitation of pirated goods, on the other hand, is a lot easier to punish.

This guy got greedy, and, like a drug dealer, was bound to get caught.

Moral of the story: be a pirate at your own risk. If you take it further and sell your pirated services or goods, and it is only a matter of time before you get caught.

Why did it have to be "raided" why couldn't it have been "searched"?

@ Rob

wow, u've seen nothin yet. has anybody ever taken a look at the electronics heading in the Toronto craigslist? u can post this and not even worry about getting caught cause its just so common. hell, take a quick look in the newspaper classifides here and u'll find ads there for this kind of stuff. and i know at least 3 people that have made their companies off of this stuff, and at least one house on every block sells bootleg games.

the mod chips I don't see any problem with. It's your system, you paid for it. You can have anything you want done to it as long as you can pay for it.

But selling bootlegged games is where I draw the line.

I loled at kingofwale's comment because it's true.
Sadly, there are so many modders that will never be caught.

Adv2k1: Sometimes it isn't a matter of "yet." Some games just don't come out outside of Japan (or Europe, but that's far less common).

Maybe not everyone living in the States/Europe/Australia speaks English? Maybe some of these people understand Japanese better than English? Or people like me, living in China- Wiis, Wiis, everywhere, but not a single unmodded one (on the plus side, by some miracle not a single game shop here is out of stock of Wiis).

Agreed. I'd imagine that the people saying "ITS NOT COMING OUT IN MY COUNTRY" and such other BS are part of a small minority.

When I really want an overseas release, I import them. Still in the legal grey area, but far better than outright piracy. If you're in a place that does not allow imports, well, there's nothing that says you must play those games... Some of you need to get it in your head that it's not a given right to be able to play that new release, no matter how much you think it is.

A reputation that it sorely deserves I might add. Less than 1% of people use mods like this for homebrew. I doubt anyone wants to play a badly made 2d platformer on their modded PS2 or something. Don't sugarcoat, this guy is scum. He makes profits off of something that isn't his. That's along the same lines as ACTUAL pirates from the south ocean off of Japan that have stolen goods from Japanese freights and taken them back to sell on ebay and the black market in Indonesia. This guy is along the same lines as chinese bootleg companies, that are risking the country's international trade treaties to be broken over and over. Do not make light of the modding community. It exists because of greed, not to further programming-kind, give me a break.

@Aberu

While I agree that this guy is scum, I only agree b/c i believe selling bootleg games is wrong. I see nothing wrong w/ modchips or "Open Edition" firmwares however. You say that only ~ "1%" of people who use modchips use them for homebrew.....well take a load at this competition held on one of my fav websites

http://www.psp-hacks.com/2007/06/04/psp-hacks-homebrew-competition-the-results/

I believe the "1%" homebrew crowd is keeping the PSP alive. It is w/ me atleast, as I've only bought 2 games for it, but I've been using it w/ OE firmwares for other great homebrews, like pspradio or Rosetta Stone tools, or hell, just even those fun lil' 2D games!!

Homebrew ROX!!!! ^_^
