After today's revelation of WiiWare, the new original content download service, the idea of an add-on hard drive for the console seemed much more likely. Until, that is, Nintendo UK unequivocally said, "no." Looks like it's time to start employing a wee army of SD cards, because with all the downloadable goodness, that 512 MBs of space is going pretty fast. Nintendo waves away hard drive rumors

The question was posed in a way that asked if Nintendo had plans to release a PROPRIETARY harddrive... hopefully that doesn't eliminate the enabling of ANY USB HDD.

Im not gonna lie, nintendo is really droppin the ball on this one, unless they add a way to use SD cards without having to move stuff back and forth. I know that my wii is almost full, as I have 22 virtual console games! I wish they would suck it up and make something. or maybe a 3rd party would....

I'm right there with you on the dream train, vidGuy. I do think they'll do it eventually.

They've emphatically denied things that have turned out to be true in the past
DS Lite, anyone?

Get a 2GB SD Card and you'll be doing ok. You can search the net for the right deal or check out Radio Shack. I grabbed a 1 GB card for $15 not too long ago. I believe the 2GB card was less than $35.

Sure Nintendo UK said no... but remember when they said "No, there's not a redesigned DS coming out" then the DS Lite was announced like two weeks later... so I take their info with a grain of salt and we'll see what kind of announcements some out at E3.

It's always good for hilarity when they say UH UH NO WAY and then renege like a week later. Gotta love Nintendo! :)

Does the Wii have any limit on SD Cards like only up to 4GB, or can I use 8GB ones too?

From what i read in the Wii User manual, there is an upper cap for SD card size at 2 GB
Although this is the launch manual, mind, so that may have changed with the 5 or so firmware updates since then
Oh, and F-Zero X rocks, but must be controlled with a GC controller (Analogue stick on Classic Controller is teh suck)

I'm not positive but I don't think Wii supports SDHC (high capacity), so that would mean it tops out at 2GB cards, which can now be found for $20.

Didn't they also say "NO DS REDESIGN" and announced the DSLite the following day?
