New Grand Theft Auto IV trailer today at Noon EST
This small note is just a reminder that the new Grand Theft Auto IV trailer, "Looking for That Special Someone" is going to be appearing here, here, and here and probably a boatload of other places at Noon EST today. It'll also be available through Xbox Live. To help get you totally pumped, we've included our gallery of GTA IV images below, and you may not have seen the first two before.
We're reminding you, not just so you can get your latest fix of a high-res guy walking around a city in slow motion, but also so you can finish up any internet business you may have before then. So, if you have any important videos to watch or shopping to do online, get it done before the clock strikes 12. As for the trailer, we're just hoping to finally get a low-angle shot of a guy running towards the camera with a gun in his hand while something explodes behind him. What do you want to see?

That first picture makes me think a cel-shaded GTA would be killer.

Cel-shaded GTA would be awesome - of course it would be a lot like Crackdown!

@JodyAnthony
We already have parents buying the realistic GTA games for kids somehow thinking a game called Grand Theft Auto comprises itself entirely with bible quizzes and kitten rescue missions and becoming shocked when it actually relates to crime and being a criminal.
But imagine the swirling mass of stupidity that would buy the cell shaded version and show immediate outrage. I agree, it would rock. But people are retarded and given the current Manhunt 2 fallout (I played The Darkness yesterday... you rip out peoples hearts and eat them....), a cell shaded GTA is just begging for the banhammer.
How I wish to live in a society that doesn't coddle and protect the stupid but rather forces them to deal with their decisions on their own.

Yeah... except, of course, GTA would actually be a complete game instead of mildlessly wandering until you're close enough to an objective. Seriously, Crackdown feels like a fun toy, but a full game? Hell, crackdown, in regards to this style of gameplay, is jumping back to the original 2D GTA titles.

... I actually prefer Crackdown ... **sheepy grin**
Jake @ Jun 28th 2007 9:39AM
sheppy,
Crackdown is a full game. Don't let your closet fanboyism or personal preferences bias your opinions too much. It was critically fairly well received, sold decent, and is still high on the weekly Live most played games list.
I agree it was no GTA or even a monster AAA title, but it was fun and if you took the time to complete everything, which I didn't do, you would have plenty of hours of gameplay to call it full. And that is without horsing around on co-op.
Some people just love that game. I see people playing it on my Friend's list all the time.
PS. You don't have to mindlessly wander looking for objectives. You can kinda sorta see the bases on the map. Pretty much any unique cluster of structures is an objective if you get close to it.

Anyone know where i can get a hi-res version of that first image?
Supino @ Jun 28th 2007 9:44AM
New GTA trailer, but no countdown hype? huh..
I agree with sheppy - Crackdown is much like the PS3: Tons of potential, but not quite there ;)
deaftly @ Jun 29th 2007 9:32AM
yea i liked crackdown more then any of the gta games
Dustin @ Jun 28th 2007 10:19AM
I liked Crackdown, but I do have to agree that the lack of a real story did take away from it. After awhile it just felt like "a toy" as sheppy said.
I have now agreed with sheppy, so the world can end.

WARNING, THIS POST WILL BE LONG! NO BITCHING, I GAVE WARNING.

"Crackdown is a full game. Don't let your closet fanboyism or personal preferences bias your opinions too much. It was critically fairly well received, sold decent, and is still high on the weekly Live most played games list. "
Wow, you just blatantly called me a fanboy there. Good job. Well, you used more syllables than majority of the people who attempt this foolishness, but regardless.
For your info, before The Darkness entered my collection yesterday, my most played games were Forza 2 and Children of Mana. Amazing, playing games on systems I apparently hate. Oh well. Onto my points.
When the gang system was introduced by GTA:SA, it was definately interesting. And worked as a good minigame to GTA. But there WAS an underlying story to it all. The main mode in GTA:SA was a long story driven game. Likewise, Saints Row, another game you'll find I spent a huge amount of time on in my Gamertag, featured a ton of additional things to do as well as the main mode, the story mode and a gang system directly tied to that mode. Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction was a superpowered wandering game which featured a focused story mode, a variety of missions and a large amount of additional things to do.
Crackdown? Crackdown consist entirely of optional quests. There is no story anywhere to be scene. There is no complex and well thought out "take down the gang" heirarchy. Hell, there isn't even a challenge. You basically jump and jump and jump until you get to the gang leader and kill him. And once the entire gang falls, you have a final push against a few stragglers and that's it. The main mode can be completed in a matter of three hours on co-op. There is also no feeling of ownership with the character. You built a character and stats just so you can easily plug and play them into any skin. So when the bulk of them game isn't even as in depth as the hitman missions in Saints Row, that becomes a flaw. Of course, this could be drastically changed if there was a counter balance to your character. Super villians and such needed to happen along with a structured story mode. Because, frankly, you have LESS you can do in Crackdown as activities than you do in IH:UD.
So that leaves the ultimate question, just what the hell are people playing Crackdown for? Missions are shit, activities are the same road race, foot race nonsense we've seen since GTA III (except the whole rooftop hopping). Incredible Hulk was a much more enjoyable rampage title IMO, so what is the appeal? Well, when your friends are PLAYING this game, are they actually playing it? Or are they playing with the phsyics or "toy" aspect of the title? I know that's what I do. I could give a shit about Hidden Orbs and such. I'm all about harpooning a smily face of people into the side of a building or driving a car onto a balcony I loaded with exploding barrels just to see how many flips I can do. That's what majority of the people I know who play Crackdown do as well. So in that regard, is it really the GAME that we are playing, or merely the physics?
