I really like the look of this. The use of color is really cool.
GodisaMyth @ Jun 28th 2007 2:36PM
Have not cared for shooters since Silpheed. If I did, I would certainly get this one, especially at $7 bucks.
What else came in the PSN update....anyone know?
Bring on E3!!!
GodisaMyth @ Jun 28th 2007 2:37PM

I've been waiting for this one ever since I saw a video of the game in action. It looks really good.
sheppy @ Jun 28th 2007 2:59PM
Wait, Gundam Musuo demo or Dynasty Warriors: Gundam? I know they are changing the name for US markets (and I'm currently debating if I rebuy the game just for the English).
Also, that does look like a great little time waster... a marked difference from the sheer lack of pick up and playability of The Darkness (I watched a movie with my girlfriend in that game last night. What can I say? To Kill A Mockingbird is a classic!
Phranctoast @ Jun 28th 2007 3:01PM
i hear they also have nosferatu as well in the darkness.
SSDHD reviews seem great so far. Looks like an easy decision at 7.99.

An ancestor is something that comes BEFORE another thing. I think the word you wanted was descendant, progeny, or something similar.
cc123 @ Jun 28th 2007 3:15PM
@sheppy
Dynasty Warriors: Gundam
Thought they were the same thing...
J.Goodwin @ Jun 28th 2007 3:23PM
Ancestor?
Maybe you meant Descendant?
GodisaMyth @ Jun 28th 2007 3:33PM
Sheppy,
Can you zoom in?
Does it take up the full screen?
How good does it look?
Nice update to the PSN
Matt B @ Jun 28th 2007 3:39PM
Sheppy,
Do you mean your in game girl friend Jenny? Or your real girlfriend? I didn't have time to check out the extra stuff before I went to bed. So far, I'm pleased with The Darkness though I'm only just leaving Jenny's apt. maybe a hlf hour or so into the game.
OrganicShadow @ Jun 28th 2007 3:50PM
@12: You can "zoom in" by crouching or standing on something, and getting as close as you can.
The quality surpasses anything I have seen on YouTube, so it's definitely not compressed all to hell. It runs very smooth, audio is in synch, and when you pause the game it pauses whatever is on the tv too.
Most tv's only have about 4 channels on them, and they make sure to have some sort of fake news channel interrupt every now and then with some stuff related to the game's story and what is going on.
So far I have seen To Kill A Mockingbird, The Man with The Golden Arm, some Gabby cartoons and a few hardcore/metal music videos. Also some weird Kung Fu movie I don't recognize.
sheppy @ Jun 28th 2007 3:54PM
@cc123
They are. But the main difference is in Dynasty Warriors: Gundam, you actually get to HEAR and READ the phrase "This isn't some ordinary Zaku, BOY!"
I am curious though... how in the hell are they going to explain Double Zeta or Turn A to Gundam fans that have missed these series but had to suffer through shining fingers?
And yes, if you can't tell, if you're a Gundam Fan, this game is absolutely phenominal.
@GodisaMyth
You can get close enough to let it zoom full screen but you wouldn't be sitting on the couch. I know there has to be ways to change the station but just not sure how. Best thing about The Darkness so far is the sheer level of immersion. I mean, the intro sequence alone is hard to top. But the fact that you witness your change from the first person goes very far. And all the tiny touches in this game like the TVs. Some games opt for clips only as long as needed to offer info, but this game has a ton of content just from that angle alone. The video playback seems to be roughly 320x240 for the lesser clips (news reels and such) but the movies seem like 640x480. But that's based exclusively on the video quality of To Kill A Mockingbird.
Also, if you buy the PS3 version, prepare to laugh. The PS3 version has achievements. Except on PS3, it's all in game. So every achievement on 360 is obtainable on PS3, it just shows up like the skillpoints in Resistance. It's always good for a giggle to see Accomplishment Achieved show up on the screen after you shoot out some poor fellows throat.
Figboy @ Jun 28th 2007 4:21PM
i didn't watch all of To Kill A Mockingbird, as i really, really wanted to play the game, but damn is that a great movie. the book is phenomenal too.
apparently, the Darkness on PS3 is also HOME compatible, so when that finally launches, those of us that have The Darkness will already have a cool trophy or something!
there's some really cool movies in the PS3 version of the game, like Flash Gordon, and The Street Fighter. i don't know how many movies and cartoons there are in all, but the game is a lot of fun. maybe after i beat it, i'll spend a few days and just watch all of the movies and cartoons in it.
it's a cool addition that really adds to the immersion of the game (the scene where you curl up with Jenny on the couch to watch To Kill A Mockingbird was great.
rarehero @ Jun 28th 2007 4:26PM
First off, the title didn't come out on the 15th or whatever in Europe. It's still no out AFAIK.
Secondly, I hear it's supposed to be released tomorrow on US PSN, but it could be delayed again, I suppose.
Damn you Joystiq for making me check for myself. Can't you do a little of the work yourselves?
GodisaMyth @ Jun 28th 2007 4:28PM
Thank you Sheppy.
This hopefully is just the tip of the iceberg on what extras developers will be able to do with the extra space afforded by blu-ray.
Bring on E3
cc123 @ Jun 28th 2007 4:33PM
See I've never even played a Gundam game in all my years. =)
BTW, SSHD is a lot of fun, I'm really liking it. So far my high score is about 1.6 million. The number one person is at 104 million O_O
And where the hell is the UPS guy with my copy of Darkness...
sheppy @ Jun 28th 2007 5:14PM

"See I've never even played a Gundam game in all my years. =)"
See, I'd say you're missing out but unless you ARE a Gundam fan, you're not really. Although I do have to say if you like hack 'n slash games, Gundam Musuo migrates the field system from the PSP versions of Samurai and Dynasty Warriors over to the consoles quite nicely. I just hope and hope and hope the new Ace Pilot Gundam on Wii comes out in the states. With PS3, I didn't take the chance, just up and bought it. On Wii, not a choice.... :
