"Thanks for your opinion and for not argue with me."

No problem. See, when nationalities/religions/etc get brought into these arguments, people tend to take the holier than thou approach. Thing is, we are all equally "ignorant" of each others' cultures and nations. I don't dare guess where you are from, taka-taka, but I can almost guarantee that the only thing I would be able to say about your country is its location and its capital, and I might have to look the second thing up! And while I'm embarassed that our country doesn't focus more on teaching multiple languages at the elementary level, we are quickly require at least some understanding of another language at the high school (secondary education) level.

But I don't care how much someone studies another country, (s)he is going to have false notions about some aspect.

And J.A., congrats on the marriage!

You know the answer to the mystery may be that Australians understand the concept of value for money? The PS3 may be more pricey than the other consoles but when it comes down to it, which console offers the most value for money? When the novelty of the Wii wears off and the superiority of the PS3 over the 360 becomes apparent the wisdom of the Aussies will be evident. When 360 owners realize they eventually will have to put aside money to fix there defective machines they may decide it's not "cheaper to keep her".

I never understand just months after initial release, how anyone could draw any strong conclusions. Of course it's selling well right now. It was just released there. The PS3 sold well the first 4-5 months in the US, then sales dropped off. Same with Japan. How is Australia any different? Now a year after release, if it's outselling the Wii or 360, then THAT would be something. Right now you're just looking at early adopters.

by the time the superiority of the PS3 over 360 becomes apparent (if ever), it won't be anywhere near its current price.

so, right now everyone paid $200 just to watch it still trying to catch up. not so wise.

Doesn't the PSP outsell the DS in Australia? Looks like Sony's got a real stronghold down under. Whatever they're doing over there, they might think about doing that for the rest of the world, too. Unless the Aussies just happen to appreciate a daily cup of executive braggadocio.

@ Shagittarius

A Fat Chick? What are you 12.

Ok, lets get the ball rolling.

The XBox 360 seems to be a sexy girl at first. She has bright red lipstick and nice curves. You date her for a bit and the sex is great at first. But 8 months into it, she is simply is using the same boring tricks over and over and over again. Every time you wanna do something with her she argues with you and sometimes it comes out scratched. She also runs of the phone bill, your Japanese friends do not like her, makes you pay more than you have to over the little things and after about that 8 months of this shit she red-rings herself and dumps your ass like a fucking hot rock with all your stuff in tow. She may even burn your house down while she is at it.

And of course the PS3 is Paris Hilton. Rich bitch that drains all your money on useless shit you do not want, jumping up and down for negative attention, and is as exciting as wood be wood.

I rather stay with the fat chick. Hay, more padding for the pounding, and she loves watching the game with me!

Thanks for the metaphors douche bag! :D

I didn't want to get involved in the flame war, but... ouch.

"It is always ironic when someone passes off basically every American alive as ignorant, uneducated, and prejudiced based on the comment of a 13 year old that was trying to be funny and get a rise out of ignorant, uneducated, and prejudiced Euro-dorks. Oh, sweet irony."

I wasn't prejudicing Americans until you jumped in as a representative of "intelligent America" and supported both the stereotypes: a) none of you know what "irony" means, and b) you have no concept of geography.

I don't know... you seemed to be serious, but surely *nobody* could be ignorant enough to consider Australia to be part of Europe?!

Fraser, you apparently don't realize that we Americans have a different definition of irony than is common around the world.

The most common use of irony in America is "incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the normal or expected result". Your quoted phrase uses irony in this form - as in, you wouldn't expect someone judging another for his/her biases to have biases of his/her own.

And considering Australia is its own continent I don't think anyone could get confused as to its location. You just read the post out of context.

But I mean, this isn't my fight or anything...

"PS3 cheerleaders have totally given up their "it's about the GAMES, not the hardware""

Nope. That's the reason I got PS3. It has games I want. Wii doesn't.

I think the key to this is that here in Australia the PS3 was meant to be released roughly alongside the Wii (December-ish 2006), but Sony recalled them all before they hit shelves (I forget their reason, but it was probably because they weren't producing enough to meet the US demand).
So most Sony fans have had their money saved up since before Christmas, they've just been unable to actually purchase the console.

Like someone brought up before region free is a huge benefit to us. The 360 library isn't that bad but the Wii library stinks (the games are all good, but there aren't many for each genre). I love my Wii but the majority of my time goes to 360 and GameCube games.
It takes a long time for a game to get from the US to Australia and we often completely miss games.
So any console offering region free capabilities is instantly given a library boost over the rest.

PS3 = Mercerdez
360 = BMW
Wii = Corolla

the way i see it, Wii isnt in the same league as PS3/360 and isnt competing directly with them. Wii is like a Corolla: its reasonably priced.

360 and PS3 are ofcourse direct competitors, just like BMW and Mercedez.

PS3 is dominating Europe and Japan. The only region 360 is dominating is US. I am certain in 2 or 3 years PS3 will pull ahead of 360 in total worldwide hardware sales.

You should give PS3 a try. i love blu-ray mainly because its region free, so i dont have to spend money on modchips, and the disc is much more scratch resistant than a dvd.

i love ps3 because it runs smoothly and doesnt have any major hardware problems, unlike 360.

i love sixaxis because it has motion sensing which is fun in certain games like MotorStorm.

i love Resistance, NBA 2K7, Rainbow Six, Virtua Fighter 5, Ridge Racer 7, MotorStorm, Calling All Cars!, MK II.

360 has Gears of War and Halo 3. well PS3 has MGS4 and Final Fantasy. if u can afford both consoles, great. otherwise get a PS3 and wait for the 65nm 360.

as regards TOTAL sales to date: Wii first place in Japan! Xbox360 First place in America! Wii second place in EU, Wii second place in America! Xbox360 first place in EU. PS3? last place in all, priceless! (oh wait, it has a price, and that, and the games is the problem). The graphics are good enough. It dont have to be as good as the 360's graphics but the price and the quality of game play does. Not to mention the number of games, and exclusive games (that are system sellers). Resistance don't count I'm talking FFXIII level games.
