Origami on your DS
TDK is tossing their entry into the tsunami of training games for the Nintendo DS. DS Origami sits comfortably alongside other non-games that teach gardening, skin care, yoga, and language skills. The top screen shows users where to make folds while a controllable video plays on the bottom screen. Over 100 different origami projects are included from hamsters to wedding dresses to the famous crane. This begs the question: do we need a game that teaches origami, or would a book or website suffice?[Via Siliconera]

My god. MY GOD. Can you imagine the Japanese flocking to this. Seriously, the Art of Japanese Paper Folding on DS. Just think for a second the massive shortage Nintendo is going to face on DS hardware in Japan alone. This game will easily be bigger than Brain Training in Japan. Goodbye PSP, it was nice knowing you.

"do we need a game that teaches origami?"
well, my answer would be no, but you could equally say in the same breath do we really need a game that lets you run around an imaginary land as a warrior etc killing things and mining stuff.
No game is worth it in that sense. There is a point to origami ds some people will love it. It won't break any boundaries in gaming, but it is original anyway. whatever

Not to mention the real question is, "Will this sell?" Any other question is ultimately subordinate to that (for better or worse).

I love doing Origami and I guess it might be cool to see which way folds go for some of the difficult objects. On the other hand, a flash animation could do the same thing.

The quality control for this game does not look very good. That penguin has a dispropotionally large leg and a really weird penis.

Wouldn't a $10-$15 Origami game be perfect for Wiiware?

What is that big penguin doing to the little penguin?
