Weekly Webcomic Wrapup: 'Penny Arcade did it!' edition

Did you know that every game-related webcomic is just a knock-off of Penny Arcade? Most of our commenters have, at some point, figured it out and/or cried "PA did it!" as loud as they can with Lucida Grande font. Steve Napierski of Dueling Analogs figured it out, and explains the gospel in his latest strip. Have you all seen the light now?

2pStarts takes it...self parody, you gotta give it to them.

The art in 2P start is horrible. There are unfunny drug refrences, and lame pop culture time-ins. There is nothing redeeming about this comic, but people will vote for it.

...and so will I, because the creators don't want me to, and I am a spiteful bastard.

Relatively poor fare this week

But Digital Unrest wins because of the Smiley Face in the guys' eye.

2pstart is almost cringe worthy. I don't know what you guys are looking at, but then again I usually don't like any webcomics.

The HD-DVD/Bluray one gets my vote. It's the first one I've laughed at for longer than I can remember.

That's the point, it is designed in to be terrible in implementations but include all the necessary elements to pull off a joystiq WWR victory.

As novel of an idea as making a crappy comic for the expressed purpose of winning an internet poll I went AZ cause I'm a pokegoon and it was damn good.

The first time I get a good laff from Dueling Analogs Hehehe.

Awkwardzombie was pretty funny but my vote goes to F@NBOY$.

Damn F@NBOY$ was pretty funny this time,I think they are kind of mediocre but that comic was hilarious.

I voted for the Pokemon comic.

1) Because I too have always wondered how it would be possible to battle using your "floatation device."

2) Because the drawing of Gyarados with the retarded eyes is priceless.

3) Because PA sucks.

PA delivers a very good one liner. I read it at work, and almost spit my coffee.

I can't believe 2pstart is winning. That comic is awful, and they know it, you know it. This isn't Snakes on a Plane, you don't have to say it's good just because it's so damn bad.

@10 Lawlz, I love how Sammy L's bubble outline is brown :P Also, the pokemon one is hilarious, but vomitting CDs get my vote 300% of the time.

DU got my vote but it could have easily gone to Weird comix.. they just lose because they didn't color the barf. IMO colored barf > sonic smoking a blunt as far as winning strategies go ;)

We would be able to create energy if we could propel matter at the speed of light. However, it's a fact that matter becomes heavier at speeds near that of light.
We need more energy to make the object move faster, but as it moves faster it gets heavier and so needs more energy to accelerate it.

Simply:

It goes fast> gets heavier > you give it more energy > it goes a bit faster, gets heavier > you need more energy to give it > it gets heavier...

It's a never ending story. But it ends in - you can't do it. therefore as far as our current technology allows, we cannot create energy. so for now we must follow the rules of energy conservation.

PA. That was their 2nd funniest comic this week IMO. The Doritos one was grand, and the malfunctioned comic that doesn't exist due to error was even better omgz.

Christ, Mario stuff isn't funny, people. It's always the same thing. It's not even in-joke funny by this point, anymore. Seriously, there aren't any more jokes you can do with the dude.

There's a good reason why Fanboys isn't in this week.
The sheer amount of power that Samuel L. Jackson (even a caricature of him) contains would be too much for the Weekly Webcomic Wrapup to handle. Fanboys would've won, easily. It just wouldn't be fair to the rest of the comics.

Ordinarily, I couldn't give a rat's ass about gaming-based webcomics. I've found all of them (yes, including Penny Arcade) take jokes most gamers were making already and draw them. I've already heard the joke a dozen times by the time I see the comic.

But that F@nb0y$ comic? That is literally the first time I got a good laugh out of a gaming webcomic. That was brilliant and original. How could it not even be up for a vote? Can we just declare it the winner, and the actual vote is for second place?

Why isn't Fanboys on there? Because Penny Arcade didn't do it, so why would anyone care to acknowledge its existence? :D Or did BPM get it right?

In all seriousness, I just overlooked it which, in light of the quality, was a shame for Fanboys -- Scott, if you haven't sworn off the 'Stiq for an act of treason, accept my apologies and a non-refundable gift of three happy points (the new HP, of course).

I'll be making a formal note in Tuesday's results and putting that Fanboys strip into next Saturday's poll.

As for the comics on the poll, I must have read some too fast. I thought extra life actually did that Silver Surfer strip, as a wink to the 2p start strip, since in that strip, extra life still one.

Yet I voted for Digital Unrest, since I think the phrase "Man Hunt" is why it's really banned. ;)

PA is one of the funnier webcomics out there. It touches on many different focal points (gaming, political, and sometimes moral) and delivers a genuine product every single time.

Kudos to all who even attempt what PA, VGcats, Fanboys, and such are doing. Webcomics become what they are through serious work, dedication, and research.

And how can any of us forget...
