Answer to #1- if you look closely at one of the few remaining roadsigns at city limits it clearly states: "sorry, no leaving city limits without a car" I mean-sheesh!

@42

I doubt they will give Fallout 3 an AO rating, as the consolers are unable to play AO games. Frankly, that's what the game is being marketed too, with the hope that PC Gamers will jump on board as well. I for one am keeping an open mind about this one, in the hopes to have another excellent game to play on my rig. But, Fallout is a game for adults, not kids, so it would make sense, but not from a business standpoint. I just hope that they retain what the made this series great in the first place.

Now off to another point. All of you people that are complaining about Fallout fans being upset are just a bunch of assholes. They have every right to be weary of what Bethesda is doing with the franchise they hold near and dear. I would bet most of you people are just simple console gamers that haven't a fuckin clue as to what Fallout is anyway.

KEEPING TURN BASED COMBAT AND ISOMETRIC VIEW WILL PLEASE ME? NO THANK YOU BETHESDA! If you are intelligent you will ignore this game because Bethesda is an evil company trying to make a game that the majority will like (THOSE BASTARDS). OBLIVION WITH GUNS! OBLIVION WITH GUNS!

I love Fallout 1 and 2 so much, that this will not do them justice. But its no good arguing about it. They should have called it something other then Fallout 3, Just as Fallout was similar to wastelands it was not called wastelands 2, this should not be called fallot. But Bethesda have paid for the rights to use the Fallout brand and cash in on its fan base, im not convinced it will pay off for them, but im happy Interplay got the money, and hope that one day they return as ive been bying their games (Interplay Productions et al) all my life.

This wont be a pen and paper style RPG, unfortunatly they are not as popular as they used to be, and no company will risk it. I will continue to enjoy playing pen and paper role playing on a sunday afternoon and would rather a Neverwinter nights style tool was made for the original fallout then have a new game.

This in unlikly to happen however, unless Interplay make a MMORPG in that style, or bethesda sell the rights on to someone like Obsidian Entertainment.

I am really looking forward to Fallout 3, It may not be Fallout but it sounds enjoyable. Id much rather see a Mad Max game in this style then a fallout game however, but in the end any role playing game is welcome, when the market is flooded with FPS, sports, golf and racing games.

It would be fun if they had Fallout 1 & 2 exist inside fallout 3, much as they did with maniac mansion and day of the tenticle. It would make a great easter egg, to find a PC in the game with fallout running.

I wonder what Metroid fans thought about Metroid Prime a year before it released.....

I bet they weren't whiny and bitchy like Fallout fans. Seriously, Oblivion is one of my favorite games in the recent years. With the advancement of the engine and plenty of development time, I doubt the game will disappoint.

What does it matter if they change the gameplay as long as the gameplay is fun and the universe isn't changed?

Trust me, Metroid fans were whiny and bitchy about Metroid Prime, I was in the thick of it. The fact Retro were told their first game sucked by Nintendo and to start over didn't help either.

But hey, in the end we got proven wrong in the happiest way possible. Of course Prime kept the essence of Metroid, exploration, secrets, powerups and shooting over sized bosses in the face.

I'd call going for a stroll around North America a large part of Fallout.

A fallout game without ATB and AP, and real time FPS :( Wonder how many players of 1 and 2 will play the new games and highly rate it

Rare Hare:
Try picturing Bethesda taking over the Mario franchise then instead of Diablo :) They're trying to develop a sequel to a game that's almost a completely different genre to what they have done previously.

Personally I love Fallout. 1 & 2 are some of the only games that I've gone back to again and again and kept on finding different ways to do things. That said, I'm happy to wait and see. If they ruin it, they ruin it, and it's nothing that wasn't already done by Tactics and Brotherhood of Steel.

I think the main problem here is that, as was mentioned (obliquely) higher up, games have become serious business, and making a successful game is getting to be a higher priority than making a good game. On the other hand, maybe it's just gamer nostalgia and I'm remembering the good ol' days to be better than they were.

Console gamers are largley simple minded morons. They know nothing about what real gaming is. They've been brought up by simple platforming Mario games or "Red Rover" turn based moronic anime RPG which they swear is teh deep because a character dies. Jeebus. LOL

Wow. Have you ever played Diablo? Diablo, too, is an isometric, top-down, point-and-click, doesn't-work-on-consoles, RPG. There are no turn-based elements to speak of (although when dealing with the way the "dirty work" of RPGs are worked into the gameplay, that's arguable), but that's about the only thing that makes the transition from Fallout 2 to Fallout 3 more drastic than Diablo 2 to Diablo 3 would be were Bethesda doing it.

In short, your counter-argument makes no sense.

@rellik_san: I know its the hip thing to do right now to claim that a game doesn't live up to its PnP roots but Shadowrun this is not. How is Fallout 3 being changed to a first person camera angle blasphemy but a fan made game you play in your imagination is worthy of being considered canon? My main concern is if they preserve the humor and the open-endedness of the previous games and thats it. I laughed like a madman the first time I played through with a high intellegence and answered the bridge keepers unanswerable question with an unanswerable question (purple robe FTW), or when I couldn't hack it as a boxer so I put weights in my boxing gloves, or when I stood in the doorway to block the exit and aggro'd Sulik into murdering a whole house full of defenseless junkies and pickpocketing children so I didn't get the karma hit, or my gay shotgun wedding, or losing a game of chess to a plant, or..... well I could make that sentence run on all night but my point is thats what fallout is to me and I think all this talk about turn based combat and isometric views is from people who don't really get the game what fallout was about in the first place.

They should port Fallout 1 and 2 to the 360 on XBLA. I'd certainly buy them.

wait. so bethesda makes a fallout game but you can only be one race: pre-nuke strain human?!! -W-T-F-
retarded! eat kids but not as a deathclaw? hire prostitutes (requirement to qualify as fallout) but not lose cupple digits in the "transactions" as a ghoul? brutalize the elderly but not as soopermutant? next we'll find out you can't od on pils or sell your wife into slavery then kill her family and sell their belongings for booze and a brain operation, just to unlock smarter wisecracks to piss ppl off before you murder the entire underground colony after saving them from starvation!! ALMOST all npc's are killable? why bother to make a great game if you take away ppl freedom! i'm sure it will be great though- who cares if you have to play for 60 hours just to uncover the most basic plot elements.

See, I was with you up until you said RPG. Choosing a class and throwing a few skill points around doesn't make an RPG. While I'm also a big fan of the Diablo games, they were examples of hack and slash combat RPGs. There were no decisions, there were no branches in story, you just clicked your way along Blizzard's (admittedly awesome) pre-defined story. You were just along for the ride.

Real RPGs allow for character development. They allow for consequences. They allow for meaningful options. This is where Bethesda has really failed so far in making RPGs. Both in Morrowind and in Obvlivion (haven't played the other TES games, sorry), whatever you did never really meant anything. You could become the head of every order in the game, part of great houses, and so on, and people. treated. you. the. same.

That's the essence of a good RPG. Not perspective, not the SPECIAL character system with traits, skills etc, but having the Role you play in the game mean something. The thing that worries me the most about Fallout 3 is that this won't be present. It might have X different endings, but it won't mean a thing if there aren't meaningful in-game consequences to your actions.

None of this is worth getting worked up over though :)

Btw schnoff, that's possibly the greatest comment I've seen in a Fallout thread yet, despite the spelling ;) Reminds me of the first time I played Fallout 2 ;P

Hrm. I suppose I should amend my previous comment. Bethesda did have a go a consequences in Blood Moon where things played out a bit differently depending if you chose to cure yourself or not, but essentially it was still just cosmetic rather than meaningful.
